AAAAAAAAAAA HOLY SHIT. You just made my day man. Though admittedly this mod is still so damn rough around the edges, I'm so pleased you got the nuances and all that stuff. The coming update I'll be bringing actually revamps a few elements and adds several new monsters, like that hammer is a full on subweapon now. Thanks for covering GMOTA, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
***** Looking forward to checking out the update! I felt bad that I forgot to cover the awesome grappling hook feature you had in there too, i just got swept away in all the alt fire modes.
***** The mod is supossed to work with custom maps. If he added maps, they would overwrite every custom maps you tried to use. This mod is a gameplay modifier, not a TC.
+MegaWater S. Although it would be cool to see the author of this mod do what SgtMarkIV did with Brutal Doom. Release the monster files, the weapon files, HUD files, and the custom map pack all into their own separate data files.
To anyone who wants to know exactly how to find the song from the second stage, it's Wolverine's theme from X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse for the SNES. One of my childhood games, and easily my favorite song from that game. I know how hard it can be to figure out/find songs featured in mods, so... I hope this helps someone who's interested.
Well shit. Originally i thoughed most Doom mods are maps, and one major one is Brutal Doom, but now i found this channel and i must say there are shitloads of gems out there to grab.
Icarus, how we cannot love DooM so much?!... Look how many years DooM has and even today has tons and tons of mods, a large and vast community of people having fun making new games/mods, not only using the doom´s engine ID Tech but also another engines, with the purpose to give us something "new" to play and allowing Doom´s continuity. I´m playing this game since it got out back in 1993 and I still do. This is "The FPS" that changed everything. I really do enjoy to see you making these videos, playing&showing to us Mods forDoom, the oldest & newest, that´s an amazing job you´ve been up to so i must be grateful to you. Thank you Icarus, for also contributing I to maintain this game alive!!!
I love modern games, but I also like Doom a lot. I don't care how old or new a game is, as long as it's fun. And Brutal Doom has a lot of elements from modern gaming as well.
Some modern games are good for inspiration (aside from being fun) - Doom (and other old game) mods are good for seeing what creative gamers can do with said inspiration (and are really damned fun too).
I agree! The community has already made enough content that I could probably go without ever playing a different game again. Between gameplay mods and wads ranging from single levels to full megawads there's just so much to experience. Other than gameplay mods the other thing I love is the really unique (usually 1 level) wads like Doom Raider and You Dig which really mix up the formula.
absolutely love the melee mods like demonsteele. but you should try project brutality! and if you do can you post a walkthrough how you got it to work i cant and i dont know why but i must play that mod. not sure whats great about it but i can sense it is great. please review.
Is there a newer version with updates on this mod or is the one I have the latest download available I caught a bit on tumblr combine Keegan said it was being worked on. I don't know if terminus is on it either.
This mod looks like an amazing treat for hack 'n slash fans like myself! It reminds me of Wrath of Cronos, which I'd probably prefer cuz of the HeXen classes.
OK, so I finally bit the bullet and decided to try this one out. I cannot for the life of me figure out how activate those blue bolt thingies, which I'm guessing are some kind of limited use special attack. EDIT: Finally figured out they're supposed to be powered up charges for the sub weapons, which randomly drop and are activated via the secondary fire key. In an unrelated note, binding "utility" to the middle button for grappling chain goodness works ludicrously well with the sword. Also important since the reload key changes between normal and charged up attacks and you can do a powered sword throw that way with the utility button.
i can't manage to use the utilites, charge the main weapons or use the unleash! Do you know why? I've played it on doom and doom 2 using GZDoom and ZDL 3
This mod is a little bit difficult to understand at first, but if I spend more time with it I might become better at it. Like Castlevania you collect meat and food to increase your health. I wonder how long that meat has been lying there. In Castlevania you had to bust open walls to find the meat and you just walk into there and chow down never caring what the old rotten, spider webbed, maggot infested meat would do to you. But just like this and other games your character doesn’t care you will just eat it anyway.
Honest opinion. So far this is the most genuine Icarus brand video. Just because he subtly drops how his production goes. Yeah, talking is rarily recorded on first try and then him admitting he sucks at the game, but then it shows he does enjoy doom wholeheartily. Oh, the mod's awesome too I also admit, I'm crappy at Doom, but oh boy, do these quality mods just bring new life to the old classic. I swear I was done with Doom 2 when I had beaten like the gazillionth time, but I put project brutality there.. and here we go again. Been using Icarus videos as good list for "mods to try"
gmota and speed demon should made official parts of the blazkowicz adventures. the main character of gmota is the ancestor of the rest of the family and the mc of speed demon is another blazkowicz descendent. now if only there was a more serious fps version of commander keen.
your closing thoughts perfectly reflect why I think these communities for old moddable games are much better than whatever most of modern gaming is. it's much more interesting to me to zoom around a map as some fucked up amalgamation of different bits of scripting on a whacked out custom map than anything the latest iteration of call of duty offers
I downloaded both of those files and Doom 1 and 2 and it never worked. I give up. What a disappointment...I really wanted to play this mod too. It looks amazing.
I agree, modern gaming is a step backwards compared to the old days. Nowadays it's all about graphics, online multiplayer, paid DLC, and microtransactions.
"Its not THAT easy, it can be pretty challenging, really."
*instantly boomerangs a baron to death*

Combine_Kegan I must say. Good job using Magic Sword Sfx for a ton of stuff.

Bless you my man
You REALLY need to do a re-review of the new version of this mod. New UI, 3 classes to play, and everything. It's a blast.

loving the Hexen sprites. I feel like reinstalling that game, so many good memories.
OMG Dungeon Keeper sprites at 3:53. Didn't expect that!
Awesome stuff! I'm glad you've been exploring the 22-year-old world of mods out there. Kegan's gonna get a treat when he sees this.
Med D. Ye.
Think you'll do an update on GMOTA v1.2? It changes things up quite a bit how it plays. Plus adds a second class!
5 years, its been 5 years since i started watching you, or maybe even more XD you've progresed soo much.
I love modern games, but I also like Doom a lot. I don't care how old or new a game is, as long as it's fun. And Brutal Doom has a lot of elements from modern gaming as well.
Kevin Meisenbacher crysis 2 was fun!
Some modern games are good for inspiration (aside from being fun) - Doom (and other old game) mods are good for seeing what creative gamers can do with said inspiration (and are really damned fun too).
The pacing in doom is sublime, and the engine just lends itself to mindless, instantly gratifying mass murder.
The gauntlet kind of reminds me of Berserk
ikr
@Rika Tomoe Hell no. Why would I watch crappy carbon copy, when I have original?
its from Hexen
0:51 WTF is with that dancing skeletor?
Golden revenant aka Gold DOOT
Finally, the GIFT from the GODS!!!
I agree! The community has already made enough content that I could probably go without ever playing a different game again. Between gameplay mods and wads ranging from single levels to full megawads there's just so much to experience.

2:40 "THE LORD OF THE LAND APPROACHES"
Live A Live's boss music, really?
Glad someone else noticed that.
Megalomania? Great
The music from that second stage is from that SNES X-Men game.
damn, that's a catchy tune.
That music in the beginning is Megalomania from Live A Live
"You gotta be bold! Oh, jeez." *hides behind a column*
8:50 "no, it's just chicken. Mmm...floor chicken"
Oh wow, Megalomania is giving me some serious nostalgia vibes. Looks cool.
Aww, listen to little baby Icarus!!!
How far he's come...
A lot of the sound effects remind me of Magic Sword too. Great looking mod.
omg, you sound so different here. 6 years is a hell of a thing i guess
I downloaded the links in the description. FREAKING AWESOME!
Wad. Of the year!!! There should be a wiki dedicated to this wad.!
Awwww, what an adorable young voice hahahaha. Seriously, either your voice or equipment changed.
Me watching this video: oh cool I’ll give it a try now
Me after playing the latest version: ITS SO MUCH BETTTER WHAT THE FHSLGNTB
So many memories of Magic Sword and Hexen...
@icarusliv3s you sir are the reason i am into doom mods.
3:09 Haha! Mortal Kombat sound!
absolutely love the melee mods like demonsteele. but you should try project brutality! and if you do can you post a walkthrough how you got it to work i cant and i dont know why but i must play that mod. not sure whats great about it but i can sense it is great. please review.
He already did project brutality
they should add the little dwarf theives from golden axe in it
8:38 = one of the best parts of this vid lol :)
Looks sweet! I'll have to check this one out at some point.
Going medieval on their asses is a duke nukem refference!
+zheKA KolesnikoV Nope. It's a Pulp Fiction reference.
It's both an army of darkness duke 3d and pulp fiction reference. (Unsure bout pulp fiction, haven't seen it)
I love this kind of fantasy
3:09 mk old sound effect
waaait
is the BGM Megalomania from Live-A-Live?!
Is there a newer version with updates on this mod or is the one I have the latest download available I caught a bit on tumblr combine Keegan said it was being worked on. I don't know if terminus is on it either.
I love how there's an Ys music in there
How about a BERSERK Total Conversion mod of DOOM, baby? That would be the coolest thing ever!
This is pretty much taken straight from Hexen.
LAL music, HOLY SHIT!
This mod looks like an amazing treat for hack 'n slash fans like myself! It reminds me of Wrath of Cronos, which I'd probably prefer cuz of the HeXen classes.
"I'm just gonna turn this hell knight into shredded beef"......it's a goat man icarus...not a cowman lol
1993 Doom 1994 Doom 2.
SuperBeautifulNoise 1992 Wolf3d 1995 final doom 1996 Quake and Duke3D and finally 1998 Half life
@@ikagura 2016 DOOM (2016) 2020 DOOM Eternal
i would love to playu this multiplayer
Wait, that music in that level is the Burki Daioh theme from Live a Live! That's awesome! Is the music a part of GMOTA or Brotherhood of Ruin?
Still not sure if the medieval monsters come with the mod or the wad.
you could update this video given that the newer release of GMOTA is fairly different to the one of this video

I've played it on doom and doom 2 using GZDoom and ZDL 3
+Enea Pepa NVM figured it out.
Enea Pepa
smite and cleave thine innards!!!!
Is the music in the mod a part of it or is it an addon and if so do you have a link to it

this mod isn't working on GZdoom 2.32. any suggestion icarus?
2:05 a Castlevania power cristal?

It's actually not called a hell baron its actually called baron of hell
KRamPus I take people to HELL Actually you are right but actually he can call it actually anything he wants...actually.
Richard Pause Oh the irony...
Using hexen sprites why not!
I downloaded both of those files and Doom 1 and 2 and it never worked. I give up. What a disappointment...I really wanted to play this mod too. It looks amazing.
Thanks for the help. I've never even tried MODs before so this is all new to me.
So badass, reminds me of Hexen and Heretic
Doesn't work no more :(
It's like berserk
engines?
zandroium/Zdoom and GZdoom
doesn't work with Freedoom
I agree, modern gaming is a step backwards compared to the old days. Nowadays it's all about graphics, online multiplayer, paid DLC, and microtransactions.
There's nothing wrong with online multiplayer... unless it's shoe-horned or with a bad netcode
12:49 1993
blaz kinda reminds me of the power rangers
is it possible to use GMOTA with hexen or heretic maps ?
this is actually more like the d&d capcom beat em ups and knights of the round
Looks like Hexen2, a mood from Quake
This isn't chicken. It's boneloaf.
Berserk anime vibes anyone?
Hah. Ghosts N Goblins. Nice
is it just me but his first part of is intro music sound like a fart
Lol it does
Gosh dude, it's a boneloaf, not chicken.
