The bike looks absolutely fantastic and sounds superb. Back in the 1990's I used to build / rebuild a lot of British bike engines. One day a guy turned up, wandered into my garage and asked if I could rebuild an A10 engine, I said I would give it a go so he went back to his car, opened the boot and brought in a set of empty engine and gearbox cases and then five cardboard boxed full of parts, nuts, bolts and studs! Some weeks later he was able to pick up a complete A10 engine and gearbox. Unfortunately I never heard it running but apparently it went well.
THAT is the sound of my youth. Did the 1 ton on this bike. I was pushing it very hard but she pulled it. Chain driven generator and all. The sound was UNMATCHED by Triumph, Norton, AJS, BSA A65's. It is the singular sound of motorcycling for me. God I love it. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! The lanes are alive with the sound of music. I may be 76 and you 40ish years younger but we are kindred spirits when it comes to the A10.
Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated. I wish I would be 40 years younger though... 29 is the number so not even 30. But hey, those are just numbers meaning completely nothing
Enjoyed the ride. I also own 1959 A10 and a 2001 W650. Both great bikes but the BSA is more fun, such a punchy feel to the engine. Really something special to ride and always makes me smile.
Wow, what a lovely bike! And I love the speedometer clock on it, which seems to tick like an actual clock as well! Enjoyed that comparison at the end too! 👍 Great video, looking forward to more!
Your bike looks great, it reminds me of the good old days of the 1960s, when I had my BSA Gold flash/ Road Rocket, Listening with headphones on really brings it all back to me many thanks.
Hi, a really nice bike , is it a Gold flash engine with the iron head , as most A10 had an alloy head . It sounds great with those Gold star type silencers and the squeak on the brakes , like an old London bus , just magic , we use to run a file across the leading edge of the brake shoes to put a slight angle on them for about 3mm down . Hi 5 all round , 3 friends of mine had a rocket Gold Star , a Super Rocket and a Road Rocket , all ways bitching who was the fastest . Back in the days when you could legally do 100 mph along the measured mile on the A35 through the New Forest . Have fun and enjoy the bike .👍😃
Lovely A10, sounds perfect apart from stopping but easily sorted. I love my A50 and will do the ton, also have a 2017 Bullet nice bike but not the same charm. You can buy a modern bike like the new Gold Star anytime but takes luck, passion and patience to buy a real classic/vintage! Grand video, thank you.
Very good " Tonton" , "Uncle" ! De la grande musique (classique) ??? Non, non, plutôt un bon rock!!! Le guidon m'a l'air bien sympathique aussi . En moto sous le casque , on a souvent le sourire, mais avec une ancienne on se couche le soir et on dort avec le sourire.
Beautiful bike, nice colour and sounds great too. Something really nice to ride on a sunny weekend when your not in too much of a hurry. I would love to own a nice British twin, hopefully one day I'll get around to it .I hate the BMW GS, it's the Range Rover of the Motorbike world and very ugly, like you said it's an adventure riding a classic motorbike not on an Adventure bike that costs £20000.
That really is a gorgeous bike, and it sounds scrumptious. You can hear the carb sucking the wind and the exhaust note is just bliss. Oil leaks and breakdowns = Character 🤣 The brakes remind me of a scene from ‘Deliverence’ 🤪
the motor sounds sweet, nice looking machine and i'm likeing those bars. ps i just took the oil tank breather down lower so it 'breathes' on the road not the exhaust.
Hi unc...just been watching a utuber in USA who has just bought a zero e motorcycle and whilst they have many good points your bike is the reason we ride bikes feel ..noise ..looks experiance....be interesing to see the new reincarnation of bsa ...atb 👍
If that new reincarnation will be available I will try to put my hands on it. Anyways you're right. The electric bikes are really utilitarian and purposeful but... like all modern cars to me. I can commute using them but there is zero excitement. Zero... Maybe that's why they called it that ;) Just kidding as I'm pretty sure there is "power excitement" but it's not all about the power and torque. It's about this special feeling.
Mine wasn’t as pretty as yours but it sounded every bit as fruity as yours. A G.Flash with 9:1 compression after a rebore and new bearings for the mains and big ends. The small ends looked to have been replaced already. Those gold star cans suit the A10 beautifully and I’m sure they let you think they free up another couple of BHP.😊. Your engine pulls strongly if its exhaust is anything to go by, and to my mind sounds exactly like an A10 should. Long may you enjoy its sunny side. There’s a but. It’s those tyres. My bikes always had an Avon Speedmaster up front and an SM Mk2 on the back. And an A10 well set up can stay with a Dominator, easy. Occasionally Dunlops if Avons weren’t findable - or affordable. Those chunky knobblies can’t surely be a top choice for a spritely roadster like this one? One more tiny thing, try a different bar. Unless you have a special reason for the cow-horn bars, fit a Norton straight. It’s not quite straight, having a slight kick-up angle at either end where the levers fit. That lets you lean forward, the wind takes your weight off your wrists and you can cover lots more fast miles on your lovely old bike. Congratulations from me on your choice, I’m with you all the way with a well set up old BSA twin.
Probably THE practical classic British bike. Brakes are poor, but everything else is fantastic. Edit: The best upgrade I did on my A10 was taper-roller steering-head bearings.Transformed the handling.
I am glad you included that final part. The whole time I was watching I kept thinking that the W800 is a Japanese evolution of an A7 and that begs for the comparison to the A10. Particularly, does a modern A7 feel anything like an old BSA? They both vibrate and sound similar, but that is where the similarity ends I'm sure.
Indeed there is not much similarities other than the look. Vibrations are stronger on the beeza but it really seems that a10 is not the heavily vibrating twin. The W is like a similar bike really but where everything works as it should and there are no surprises.
If you have not done so yet remove the brake shoes and champ her the leading edges of the shoes that will help get rid of the squeaks! Lovely bike, just love BSA Twins
What a lovely bike and yes the sound is addictive yours seems smoother than mine im sure quieter silencers make for a smoother ride mine are very loud nice video 👍ps what model and year is this a10
Long time ago we gave that advice to our less mechanically inclined friend and he actually did that ! Luckily he shared his enthusiasm before the ride so we stopped him in time 😂👍
It's self fixable - look at the second half of the video ;) Talking seriously though - first things first as the breather leak and that bloody squeak are more important now. I like that colour as well. I thought it's not possibly the best one, but it looks really cool and different in reality. I got a black tank as well, but that one is better. Cheers
ps. but if you are asking if I'm going on a longer trips - like to Spain on that... no bloody way ;) I would but only when if rebuild it myself knowing every bolt there.
@@UncleLongbeard Not necessarily, I was just curious of you were planning on doing any trips with it. I know someone from here, who rode his old 60s Jawa to Croatia, and is planning on taking his K58 there next, so craziness like this exists :D
well, after riding my w800 with modern tyres I feel that the a10 is a bit mushy. Not so confident in the bends, but nothing terribly wrong either. For a slow ride it was absolutely fine. For a faster corners not anymore. No problem with braking, so all good overall.
Wait ! You are selling Harley's...... They vibrate, leak oil , bits fall off , heavy and handle badly , you never know if it will make it home.........But they Sound Great ! Dave NZ

I used to ride a BSA A65 Lightening, and guys used to like to ride behind me, just to hear that beautiful sound from the exhaust pipes
I would ride behind you as well ;)
The BSA A10 is a beautiful bike fantastic engineering, mine is 64 years old and rides superbly.
I know those roads well. Great to hear on old Brit bike now and again. Brings back memories

I think they had alloy heads in the 60's - that one is still from the fifties. Thanks for the comment mate
Great video. I also have an A10 (1955) which I hope to get running next month and I will be able to compare it with my 2019 W.
I don't think there is much to compare, it is completely different experience ;) Good luck with getting it work
Beautiful bike, glorious sound, cheers 👌
It really is! Thanks Chris
That's such a pretty bike and it sound glorious too! Slightly jealous!
It really is lovely, and there really is weird sort of fun riding it - even it's much worse in every single aspect than the modern bikes.
@@UncleLongbeard I used to drive a lot of classic cars so I get that completely, they're more rubbish but more fun at the same time!

I love that bike as well. The brakes are sorted long time ago, the only problem is that I don't have enough time recently to ride it.
That's awesome! Wonderful bike!😃👌
