Fun fact: Gura is not a Japanese speaker, hence the help she received to write the lyrics! Still, the meaning of the lyrics is very interesting, she displays the internal fight between Gawr Gura, her current persona, and her former persona (prior to hololive) coming back to haunt her. According to her lore, Gura is a shark from Atlantis, which is why she chose ancient Greek for the first and last sentences. That's also why the beat has an "Egyptian" feel. At the end, she says "Nothing bad is without something good", acknowledging that the fight of her past self to get recognition was needed to get to where she is now.

7:35 - funny is, Gura and Calli have song called "Q" (it should've called Queens, but this name is overused, so Gura left only one letter). And this music is kinda prequel to their cover of "King".

This song is a dialogue with her own reflection in the water. In Gura's lore, she is a shark from Atlantis, who came to the surface world.
The blue subtitles represent her current self standing above the water, looking in on her reflection below the water. The red subtitles represent her past self, who was very aggressive and a bit jaded. If Gawr Gura is half-shark/half-girl, Red is her shark half lingering below the water looking up at Blue in blind rage, and Blue is her girl half standing above the water looking down at Red in remorse. The fan community commonly speculates that Red is a stand-in for her old personal channel that she used before joining Hololive and taking up the Gawr Gura character. In her pre-Hololive content, she abused alcohol quite a bit because "small girl gets wasted and acts stupid" got her a lot of views and a lot of attention, but was not very healthy for her mentally, emotionally, or physically.
Red blames Blue for abandoning her past and taking all the hard work and suffering Red went through for granted. Meanwhile, Blue is trying to clarify that while she's not _proud_ of Red, she's still _thankful_ for Red. Blue knows she wouldn't be where she is now if it weren't for Red being on that content grind to build her audience. Gura wants to reconcile both sides by trying to take the best of both worlds: Blue's peace and happiness, yet Red's ambition and drive to continue moving forward.

Gura is special. She debuted alongside Calli as part of the same generation in Hololive and while all five of the girls in that group met with instant success, for Gura it was next level and she quickly shot up to become the most subscribed Hololive member.
Her character lore is that she is a 9000 year old shark from ancient Atlantis. This song makes a nod toward that origin, with the spoken lines at the start and end which are in what if I recall is a somewhat archaic Greek dialect (the ancient Greeks being the ones who first wrote of Atlantis).
The rest of the song is mostly in Japanese, but with English peppered throughout. The latter is Gura’s actual native language. She doesn’t actually even speak Japanese (though she has been trying hard to learn), but she has from the start shown an impressive ability to sing it phonetically in such a way that even native speakers are impressed.
Gura has a fair amount of good stuff to discover music wise. Not as much as her genmate Calli, but a good number of covers and a couple other originals (both duets, Q with Calli and Sweet Appetite with Hakos Baelz, a talent from the second Holo EN generation). A lot of her covers are duets or group songs and are on other members channels though, so you may have to look around a bit.

Woooooo!! I've been waiting for this day!
Gura had rather severe imposter syndrome her first year in Hololive. She was the first member to pass 1m subs, blowing past all her seniors in the company who had been on the grind for years prior, in jusymt a couple months. So this is a song where she wrestles with her self-doubt and overcomes it.
Gura is a shark girl from Atlantis, and her normal form is the blue one.
The red form is her negative and aggressive side, and she argues with it in the song.
It was her managers idea originally, and she incorporated it into her lore after the fans embraced it.

Thank you for reacting to my oshi Gawr Gura!
At first I was on the same boat as you. When I heard her sing, I immediately thought: wow, this Japanese person sure does speak English very fluently! But then I came to realize that she actually speaks English as her first language!
Regarding the song meaning, many others have clarified on that, so I would like to tell you about her singing instead. She has a talent of conveying the songs' emotions through her singing really well, resulting in her sometimes even crying when singing sad songs. Another talent from Hololive that can convey emotions from songs well is AZki, the Vsinger and diva.
Although Gura may not have many studio-recorded songs as say, Calliope Mori, her treasures lie in her unarchived singing streams, which unfortunately have to be unarchived due to song copyright reasons.
If you do have time however, I do suggest you take a listen to some of her singing, which are rather easy to find on RUclips.
My personal recommendations are Creep by Radiohead (sung on 04/04/2022), When I Was You Man by Bruno Mars (sung on 04/04/2022), and Killing Me Softly With His Song by Lori Lieberman (sung on 16/06/2022).
The reason I put the dates are because some of the songs she may have sung more than once, but I would recommend the mentioned iteration.
I hope you have fun! Cheers!

There are two karaoke songs I'd reccomend checking out. Her first attempt at "Reflecttion" from Mulan.. it was emotional.
And then, "Part of your World." She claims herself that she is not a belter by nature, but that song proves she can do it if she wants to. It was the one with the brown background, since I think she's done it a fe times, but she never belted it like that time ever again afaik.

1st. Language at start and end was old Greek (which is was believed to be used in mythical city "Atlanta") which is where gura character is supposed to be from...2nd. Her main language is actually English, and she knows VERY little of Japaneses (song is in Greek, English and Japanese)...3rd. "Reflect" means a reflection between her now and her past life (she was persona on YT before) and how people see her differently in both times and how even if they are different they are like 2 sides of the same coin..or like a person and its reflection..4th. at some point she played up her "predator" like behavior as "shark" thus red version of gura was born now people refer to blue gura (cute, nice) and red gura (harsh, violent, predator)

You picked up on Atlantis which is actually part of her setting. Also something I haven't seen mentioned here is she is the #1 most subscribed vtuber in the entire industry at over 4 million subs. Gura is a very talented singer though not as talented in terms of making her own original music so she isn't as active in the music making side of things she sings covers and her karaoke streams are usually a treat for the ears. During her recent 3d debut stream she did sing this while dancing which is you are going to be listening to the song a bunch anyway would be worth checking out.

4:14 - close enough. Counter sides of her past self and current self. Can you reject you past that forged you now?
An interesting moment to think about. Gura before Hololive was quite popular. Sweet, but not shy of vulgar phrases and specific humor. When she joined Hololive, her old fans were resentful and believed that working for a corporate company is shackling her real self. But if you listen to this song carefully, you get a slightly different impression.

You are correct in that the EN in the name means the English branch, in this case, Hololive English -Myth-. As someone else said already, this is kind of an "internal struggle" song. You've got to understand, Gura didn't just appear on the scene, she EXPLODED. She got the fastest growing numbers until very recently, reaching the million subs in less than a year and almost 2 million in a couple months more. That can give anyone impostor syndrome, altrough not necessarily the only reason. She's much better nowadays, thankfully.

Gura has quite a good voice. It's a shame she doesn't really do much music.
Not much else to say on top of what they did for the song itself.
Yeah the ready-steady-go thing is pretty brutal. It's probably impossible for me, so I'll just keep leaving suggestions... Tsunomaki Watame - Everlasting Soul! lol
