    I always recommend air coolers unless you absolutely hate the look of a tower in your case. Pumps can be noisy, and are a big point of failure. An air cooler with 2 fans only have the fans as points of failure, and if one does, you're not stuck waiting for an RMA on a pump to start playing again.

    • @Nobe_Oddy
      @Nobe_Oddy Год назад

      it really depends on what CPU you are using... most are fine with a simple tower cooler, but once you get over 8 cores I would think an AIO is needed.... BUT now that Intel's got this big.LITTLE thing going it gets a bit more complicated... PLUS the new Ryzen 7000 series run quite a bit hotter than any of their previous CPU's....
      No matter, there is PLENTY of good info available no only on LTT's YT chan, AND their forums, but TONS of other YT creators that know what their doing to, so you should get your info from multiple sources if you upgrade... I'm in this same situation going from a 6 cor to a 12 core, but I don't have the $ for an AIO yet... so I'm seeing what my best options are :)

    High end aircoolers like the NH D15 are also usually quiter than aios since the Fans usually turn at similiar speeds but there are no pump noises.
    Another added Benefit for mostly overclocking is that many aircoolers by Design get airflow over the vcore vrm coolers if mounted blowing towards the back. Thats mostly relevant for ocd mid range CPUs on cheap boards since for high end stuff you usually dont use air coolers or cheap boards for ocing.
    Another thing to consider is that when testing overclocks or pbo settings for amd aios and custom loops will initially be showing much cooler temps than what you can expect since the liquid needs to heat up first. So its generally a longer testing process.
    If anyone reading this wonders why im basically only talking about overclocking its because if youre just running Stock you can just use the Stock cooler and be fine temp wise.

  • @Dartheomus
    @Dartheomus Год назад +1

    An equally important question is the case. An open case like the Phanteks P500A runs much cooler and quieter than a sealed case that claims to be quiet. I use the Artic Liquid Freezer II 360, and my system runs at 51C under full load with the slowest fan settings. (Ryzen 5900x, 64 GB ram, 3080TI FE) It measures in at a barely audible 36db right next to it. The loudest part is the coil whine off the GPU.

    I love how this short sums up what I bring up every time to someone asking about which cpu cooling method is best.
    So many constantly cheap out with the air cooler cause its the most budget. But its also ironically also the LOUDEST unless your going with a companies fans like Noctua... But even then now your talking about paying up for like premium fans.
    As to AIO's yeah they can leak but if they leak its gonna probably be like a DRIP at most unless your really damaging on purose the fittings on a AIO. Also AIO's aren't like forever so at somepoint like 8 to like 10 years its like well maybe logically one should probably replace an AIO if its gurgling or under performing or the motor burns out.
    As to custom water loops you gotta grasp the maintenance of those loops before you should even bother with them. And they are costly to just make and implement. Which wouldn't even be on the table then if its a budget ish build.

    A high-end aircooler like the Noctua NHD-15 can set you back over 100 bucks. Meanwhile there are AIOs like Arctic's Liquid Freezer III which cost significantly less and perform on par or even better.
    Custom loops are totally dependent on the choice of components and even one wrong choice can kill your system, like a cheap block where the O-ring seal wasn't working properly. Or bad fittings.
    A decent aircooler for 30-40 bucks is the best option for most, as they're the cheapest and pose the least risks, but you can expect them to run louder under heavy loads.
