This must be BY far the best auto journalist channel out there. The video quality along side with the tremendous amount of information is unmatched. Appreciate you guys.
Thanks 🙏 feel free to recommend!
I like Volvo for bringing Technicolor back in our cars, like in the ‘70s. Lovely, because other brands seem to be still living their lives in Black & White.
And all to waste since when you look at those airvents, you feel like you're gonna die anyway.
I mean why tf did they design the interior like a funeral?
Audi has the new Q4 e-tron in purple
@@carlosandleon You must've visited some interesting funerals.
@@Rattlepiece look at the airvents man
@@carlosandleon the interior is the only thing Volvo is good at lol
You definitely should make more reviews together with both participating the reviewing! This was both informative and entertaining!
The best duo on RUclips, grate to finally se the length review.
✌️✌️
Thomas is the best reviewer on the internet. He is honest and reliable. Thomas is fun to watch, but he is also jam packed with information! Great review of this XC40. I love this car!
highly appreciated m8 !
Bryan's comment in the middle is spot on.
Core engine functions should be protected and firewalled to prevent dangerour abuse, but the entire entertainment system should be an app based on current tech (like Android) and therefore capable of modification. It would be great if a car company could update it over the air for years, but most companies lose the incentive to improve their products once sold.
So the options are a recurring revenue model to maintain updates, or an open system that allows users to improve it.
Mazda also needs to figure this out and stop fighting against their lead users who have hacked and improved their entertainment system (e.g. by delivering Android Auto long before Mazda itself did).
Imagine an eco system where users could modify their (non-safety related) vehicle systems and the car companies could use these ideas to integrate functionality back into their models. For example, most cars could support recording of rear cameras to cover half the potential for accidents. Yet few companies do this, or allow others to do it. Instead parallel systems must be installed. :(
Gotta love Brian driving in the passenger seat without his shoes. That man is pure class ;)
Thomas and Brian have such a good dynamic, you should make some more reviews together!
👌
Maybe including a woman would be a good idea.
great seeing you two together. Love the polarized and on both sides very informed conversation dynamics. Cheers guys!
✌️
I really enjoy your reviews guys, UK here. Keep up the good work 👏
It was great to see both of you in this video together!!... Autogefuhl certainly has skilled and modern journalist especially people who enjoy making videos... keeping in line with evolutionary changes in cars.. unlike journalist who does them as a chore
I enjoyed watching the Video Review 😀. Looks very nice
Best review out there! The dynamic duo 😄 you should do this more often! PS: gotta love Thomas’s chuckle 😄
😄
Was waiting for this review for a long time and finally
Greetings back from a Belgian viewer. 😀
Btw, the C40 is fully produced in the Volvo factory in Ghent. #Proud 🇧🇪
When I saw ‘C40,’ I thought they were finally bringing back a convertible.
i love riding in my friend’s C70 turbocharged 5 cylinder, it sounds so meaty compared to many vacuum sounding engines Volvo (and others) use these day.
@@_TrueDesire_ The one in my 21 year old V70 sounds like a swarm of angry bees
Great review Thomas and Brian 🤗 such a great EV and super intuitive Google MCU. VW please take note 📝 👌
Have one on order here in the States. Thank you for the first real review, Thomas 😃
👌
RIP, hope you enjoy the funeral airvents.
Same here. Supposed to arrive in December. Really a striking car - especially the back end.
Thank you for mentioning the relative high difference when seated. Almost everybody considers height with seating, but few think about proportions to height. Your simple demonstration says it all in one picture.
Speaking of which, only a few manufactures are considering femur length when it comes to seat cushions for front seat passenger. But no manufacturer yet makes a rear seat cushion that slides forward.
As for the roof line, the slope cuts into the much needed head room and defeats the SUV/crossover purpose. The XC 40 makes a lot more sense that this car.
On the bright side, the blue carpet is a unique and welcome change. But no glass roof cover is unacceptable, especially for the entire southern U.S. The overhead sun would beat down on your head and make it feel like a greenhouse. You'd need the full AC most of the year, and drain the battery.
I really liked the Orange carpet they once offered but I don’t think it’s an option anymore. You’re so right about the brighter interiors, it’s so refreshing to see this instead of the usual black or gray.
13:32 The GOAT and GOAT in one place. 😅👌
Rear lights, I could go even further (something volvo could made up themselves) remind me of winded road centrę line , continuous gioing into stripes . Love it
Great conversations xD
Another brilliant and warm review guys... Keep it coming ^^
Much love
😃
This is my dream car. I learned to drive in the C30. I hope it is as charming as its predecessor.
You both made this episode the funniest . Pleas do so in future ....
😁
Thomas u are the car God, love from Sweden
I really like how this thing looks, inside and out
Thanks for another brilliant review. Tell Volvo I ordered this car on the strength of it.
We ❤ Brian - He's the best!
Great presentation, compelling car…filmed in Belgium!
I was just about to ask if this was filmed in Ghent and then you mentioned it. Greetings from Lokeren (close to Ghent). :)
Good verbal byplay with Brian.
The weight of our date is also useful automotive information! 😄
I appreciate the measuring of the trunk. Thanks!
👌
Thomas and Brian, Autogefühl's heavy artillery ... 👍
☺️👌
It looks like a great car, the blue interior carpet looks out of place to be honest, and will probably act like the lava orange interior in that it will always look "dirty". As for the added weight discussion, the car is prepared for the extra weight. As a mechanic in Volvo I know the XC40 pretty well and if you compare the parts fitted in a XC40 with an ICU to the electric ones, the brakes, suspension etc are not the same. The suspension, for example, is stiffer to make up for the extra weight and the lower center of gravity. But it was a great video and I would like to see a discussion video between Thomas and Brian about the handling of EV's compared to non-EV's.
Have to agree with you on the dirt magnet comment. However, being a fan of blue colour, I might actually go for it.
Good points
True. Still going for the blue interior. Couldn't resist! 🤣 Bit more cleaning for this one than for previous car.
Hehe love you guys 😅 finally we got a body size measurements^^
✌️☺️
from my POV one of the best looking crossovers or even cars in general escpecially with the fjord blue. loveit
Height comparison & rivalry is fun between Brian & Thomas ...we believe you....😂
Keep up the great work & reviews & keep having fun team.

I like the HMI as part of a traditional dash ( integrated) instead of the wart look. Goog job Volvo!

Hello, you don’t need to enter in the air conditioning screen to change the temperature. You can do it just pressing the blue and red arrows. 😊
You are such a gentlemen thomas, i like your video's. 👍
thanks keep tuning in!
I love the exterior design as well as the interior, except of the blue color inside. Lucky you can chose the black interior as optional!
The battery pack should be bigger for that price...
I will test drive it next week🥰
saw one on the road recently, looks great! but the spoiler was rather big for an suv
Great review. Nice looking EV. Good sustainability. Unfortunately it’s not an EV built from the ground up and that infotainment system already looks slow and laggy.
C40 against the BMW IX clearly, I would love Thomas to review the MG MARVAL R if he can get his hands on it in Germany. The Marvel R has already arrived in Europe.
I've owned 2 Volvo vehicles in the past, and this looks amazing but I worry about maintenance costs.
An interesting vehicle with some intriguing design decisions. I'm really not sure I share Brian's enthusiasm for yet more reliance upon large tech companies. I'd also be interested to know how a loss of mobile cellular signal impacts the features and usability of the infotainment: For example, does voice control still allow you to control all in-built features when you have no signal?
Very interesting video! V2L is getting more popular, and it's especially useful and convenient now that power outages are at an all-time high.
Did you have chance to see the lights at work? Are they the same matrix headlights as in PS2? Which are amazing!
Yes, it is the same Led Matrix headlight as in the Polestar 2.
In the polestar 2. I just tell where I want to go and it can calculate the % left down to 1% error if you follow the speed limit. Works really good.
same system, correct?
@@tomdac I think so. Both have the android system with google maps so should work the same.
You two are great together! More of this!
😊✌️
I don't know about that.... it was painful to listen to them bicker with each other... not much good chemistry between them...
@@cbatiau2528 Did I ask for your opinion?
@@simonrushton4639 Yes :-)
You are both correct....weight low down does improve handling, but then Lotus' whole philosophy is "adding lightness". You would expect that the engineers have designed all wear-out items to take into account the extra weight, tyres should be specific to an EV they have more solid sidewalls. What influence the bean-counters have tho is the issue there.
@3:25 I guess Thomas meant to say 150kW DC? Which is ok, depending the charge curve. XC40 / Polestar 2 have around 100kW average from 10-80 SoC.
Yeah 150 dc
Would love to see a longer range offered later, like 300-350 miles.
i watch Autogfuhl because you Thomas make it so entertaining and fun, (plus being a Vegan as i am), while giving a great review of the car.
highly appreciated Richard, thanks for caring!!
Wich speed do you go on the motorway?
Please do an Outback vs a Forester review
Good conversation and good information, but we drivers know if the car works for us we'll spend the money if it doesn't we won't
The XC40 P8 problem has been quite high consumption, especially in the winter cold
YES, very attractive inside and out, traditional yet futuristic
not inside, those airvents belong in a hearse
We are just getting these EV's in the US. It drives great! We do not yet have the Audi Q4 etron. Could you please compare these two EV's?
Vc explica muito bem... muito obrigado 👍
What’s the ground clearance?
you are right Thomas, are you not always?
Look so gooood! I want I want
Thomas is correct Brian it is just up to enginering!
Autogefuhl is superb in the Volvo
cheers m8 !
Nice !
One rookie question, Thomas, when use one pedal driving, when you let off the throttle, does the brake light on?
If i may answer - yes they go on :)
@@JabbaFanzz thank you 😊
Yes indeed, always when there is significant recuperation. Some vehicles of a different recuperation strength, so it can happen that the weakest regen might not turn on brake lights, but the 2nd level does etc
@@autogefuehl thank you very much 😊
Your "lover's tiff" over increasing mass 🤣. I think you're both right, in a sense: More weight DOES lead to higher wear and tear and lower efficiency. Yet a low CofG can offset some of that mass "through the seat of the pants" when you're in the car.
Mass is definitely something that EV makers (battery manufacturers) need to address
Great review! How is the inner dimensions compared to VW Tiguan?
cheers!

@@autogefuehl 👍Thanks!
I like Brain and Thomas together.
Brian appeared in the back seat like Q from Star Trek.
😂
Please make an video on 2022 volvo xc60.
I want to buy this beautiful electric car
Check the the MG Marvel R and Genesis GV60 first....
Don't. Have you seen the airvents? Looks like they belong in a coffin.
In the US you can get these at the dealership I just test drove one autobahn Fort Worth Texas
I was wondering why Tomas is reviewing the xc40 again
Nice, but where is the extra value to justify the high cost?
Probably the first edition or something but 60.000€ here in Belgium. That's nuts! If you look at the size, charging capacity etc... I think that Hyundai and Kia have both put out a very compelling offer. The only thing not in their advantage is the badge.
Almost agree 100%, but Björn N tested both the Hyundai headlights (poor results) and how the narrow range of battery temperature affects charging > 100k. The "on paper" 250kW is sadly not all that useful.. But the pros are probably better i e V2L, warranty, true EV platform, super quiet, smooth ride, large interior, bolder design. More minuses: the oem entertainment system and navigation looks OK but dated, bland paint options.
/Swede in the market to replace an 14 year old E85 Ford Focus
The Ioniq 5 interior unfortunately looks like a Japanese microwave from the 90s (and yes I know Hyundai is a Korean company).
I think there is a mistake with the peak charging rate. You mentioned 125kW, but I’m sure the XC40 and Polestar 2 are both 150kW.
I noticed that too and agree the C40 should be 150kW as well. Heard that the new 1.7 software you are showing here improves the charging speed and range in the XC40.
You don't have to go into any menu for the temperature. There are clearly visible red and blue arrows on either sides of the reading for that. :-)
most beautiful coupe suv design
In the uk it’s quite typical that we don’t get entry level models / small wheels. Ironic considering our road quality!
Welcome in Ghent
Yep, he's about 1 mile away from my house. Must be the Volvo factory here.
Thomas, were you in Sweden and filmed this vehicle?
Nope Belgium
_Added weight_ 19:30
I thought you'd blame Brian 🤣🤣🤣
Regarding Brian's comment about extra weight affecting suspension and Thomas' reply that they should get input from engineers on this: The Model S has been out a decade now, and it weighs more than this Volvo, or is at least similar, so I'd guess there are some good data on that particular vehicle regarding suspension and tires -- and I'd love to hear what the verdict is on the Model S in that regard. I suspect that automakers are adjusting suspension if necessary to handle any extra weight due to batteries minus engine weight (i.e., ICEVs are heavy due to the engine and transmission that are gone in BEVs, so the extra weight isn't huge), and I'm guessing that it would be widely reported/known if tires were wearing down much more quickly in BEVs than in ICEVs.
Good point about the moon roof for Southern US States, Australia etc. i like the solar roof on my Ioniq 5 P45, but maybe too expensive for most cars. Helps range even in Scotland….
Does it? Doesn’t it add weight and makes the interior hotter in summer time (more AC use) and just has minimal impact on range? It’s 0,2 kW so i cant Imagine any noticeable effect. What’s ur experience? Really interested!
@@autogefuehl thanks for that. I have copied this from Hyundai: “The Ioniq 5 is equipped with a solar roof of the weight of 24 kilograms on the First Edition Project 45. This improves energy efficiency by providing an additional power source. It can prevent battery depletion and extends the range by over 1500 kilometers per year, depending on the local sun exposure in which the customer lives.” This adds just over 4 kilometers a day but means I can run dashcams etc without running down the battery. Its weight is at the top of the car, which will slightly shift the center of gravity of the car upwards. It also helps when running Vehicle To Load when camping etc. Hyundai don’t say how much it costs as it’s only fitted as standard to the P45 and not an option yet. It is not a 2 way solar roof so the interior of the car is unaffected and doesn’t overheat. I guess the cost and weight will come down and will be more attractive over time, I used to live in Sydney and you wouldn’t add a sunroof or moonroof as it made the car very hot in summer as your review points out. It explains why so many vehicles in Australia are white!
I love your reviews! Would get this one over the Tesla.
Thanks 🙏
Thomas, squeezing into the back seats seem a little unreal for a tall person. It's more like a 2+2.
Why would Volvo make 2 very similar electric SUVs? How does this compare to XC40? Are prices similar as well?
Very good point Bryan, the wear will indeed be substantial. First generation cars will suffer and buyers will maybe guinea pigs…..
Lease for the win!
Has the horrific door lock sound been fixed, watched a review where an XC40 door locking sound was mentioned it sounded so cheap and crappy, that would drive you mad every time you lock the car. 😕
I’m with Tomas on this one.
I think we are going for the ID4 GTX
I just love how Volvo is always one step ahead of the competition; this time with sustainable materials, android based infotainment system, led lights, online ordering
But the interior still 🤢
@@carlosandleon The interior is simple, not overloaded, Scandinavian design. Like an IKEA furniture 😉 simple but functional
@@edimist1 It's really not like Ikea. Volvos are luxurious, at least the xc60/xc90 are. Volvo is not ahead in dedicated platforms. They've not come out with one yet while Hyundai/KIa, Mercedes, BMW, Ford, have introduced dedicated EV platforms.
The Genesis GV60 would challenge this C40.. need to compare the dealer prices in € when it's out. You guys would love the GV60.
The Genesis will be considerably bigger at 184 inches vs. the c40s 174 inches. It's a bigger, wider car.
