Been a life long Cards fan that has lived in WI my entire life. So that 1982 World Series was extra special when the Cards wiped that smirk off Harvey’s Wallbangers faces. Relatives still refer to Willie as “that F-ing McGee” 😂😂😂 0:47
Great story teller and he was so much fun to watch as a pitcher. I saw Kaat and Catfish Hunter pitch a game one time and I believe it was under 2 hours total. Kaat was especially fast as pitchers. Not velocity fast, pitching fast. Everything out of the stretch. Get the ball, get balanced, get the signal, pitch.
It's definitely a theme of the Yankees in the 80's and early 90's. Terrible trades. "What the hell d'you trade Jay Buhner for?" -George Costanza's dad to Steinbrenner. One of the best lines in Seinfeld.
McLaughlin is so awful (incorrigible "homer"; everyone is "a great guy" and "one of the best" and "maybe my favorite of all time", combined with very few insights) that I have to turn off the sound for Cards games. Little better when Jim Edmonds does commentary (almost as well as Hernandez and Darling, who IMO are superb), but McL is mediocre at best.
@@TL2354 Bit harsh calling a person a liar. Willie didn't make his MLB debut until May, 1982 as a Cardinals so he never was a Yankee teammate of Jackson's. He was just a minor league prospect in the organization.
I could listen to this guy talk/tell stories all day.
Same.
Absolutely!

That’s what they need today. Batter in the box or not.
What a Gentleman Jim is.
Jim is 85 years old and still sounds very sharp. Very impressive.
83
I was wondering that. He faced Ted Williams and Julio Franco…bridging about 50 years. He seems MUCH younger than 83.
And he was right- The Yankees blew it when they traded McGee.

WHERE'S GEORGE HENDRICK
Who's the other guy with Kaat?
Dan McLaughlin, Cardinals/Bally sports tv play by play guy

Kaat and Herzog were never teammates. Reggie Jackson was already gone when NY traded McGee.
Maybe minor leagues?
@@williammoseley17 No. I checked. They were never on the same team.

What did you check? Yankees traded McGee in October 1981, Reggie signed with the Angel in January 1982 so you didn’t check a thing. You’re a liar
