This is something that is actually going to happen really far down the line supposedly. A MP Pelican and Phantom are in the game and being worked on possibly for when AI are added into the game.
Man. I've been waiting since 2001 for a halo game that supports Pelican flying in the multiplayer. This is the closest we've got without mods so far. Wish they would just let us someday.
This video made me think of a way to use the Pelican in multiplayer: As a flying platform. The pilot can place the Pelican in a spot of the map and activate a mode that makes the Pelican stand still, a bit like the Falcon in Reach. However, the pilot can leave the Pelican, and the Pelican would still stand even if no one is there. Even enemy faction could get the vehicle for themselves. I think on paper this is a great way to add more combat sharing.
What 343 has to seriously fix is the offline Forge. If your internet connection fails or you're just randomly disconnected the game will kick you out of Forge, and it makes absolutely no sense for the game to kick you out of an offline match.
I caught a glitch in the first season where you land on one by accident from a lift on fragmentation and it took you all the way off the map but i jumped off and explored the outer area without any boundary timers. lol. I actually caught it on camera once.
4:40 "He couldn't get players into the back of the Pelican; only bots, for some reason." probably the same as in past games: vehicle seats can be flagged as NPC-only. it's used for things like marines and ODSTs, but not players in halo 3 odst, sitting on tank treads
This tells me that if not this season, it will be in season 5 because if it's this finished with animations and everything, then I think it's almost close enough to release as its own forge vehicle. I tried it out and all it needs is some polish and the animations are a little unfinished but I think it's close...
For some reason halo Devs bungie included are allergic to letting players fly pelicans to this day despite all these advancements in gaming tech they still haven't figured out a way to properly implement it in normal gameplay
I'd love for 343 to really flush out the Pelican, animations and all, and add them to the spawn list for vehicles such as the Wasp or Warthog. Also, wasn't there some scuttlebutt about the Falcon coming along?
Its a joke that this is halo infinite, and we still dont have proper pilotable pelicans... Its a crime that they finally brought back the breathtaking model, and dont let us pilot it. And 343 wonder why people have lost interest over the years.
I swear I thought I was the only one thinking that, I truly don't understand it it drives me crazy lol it's like they tease us knowing that pelicans was our childhood dream, 343 knows that almost the entire community would love to have a open world forge with functional flyable campaign vehicles on a map like HR forge world, they literally have the ability to do so and yet still ignore it, if they was to add that it would change the entire course of halo to the greatest it's ever been but it's like they want to keep up with trends instead of the community.
Hey, someone just made a flyable Phantom set up through a prefab you can download and fly on any map. I wonder if we could do it with a Pelican. Of course, it would take figuring out how. I messaged the person who made the Phantom flyable.
So they really did work on the pelican for multiplayer? The animation tether for the pilot seat is just broken. Still irritates me they didn't add it to forge even though its essentially almost finished, must be the shitty explosion state they couldn't spend more time working on.
The pelican has always been a proper player usable vehicle since CE. Infinite's pelican is using Halo 4's pelican as a base, they fly exactly the same. I think the issue is that they just didn't ever intend for it to be piloted by players in Infinite because because beyond its model the pelican is still quite unfinished. Like you said the explosion state doesn't exist at all, the pelican's wings and thruster pods barely rotate during flight and of course animations don't seem to exist for sitting in the pelican's seats.
@@FreemanFreak87 When I asked a dev in a live Q/A he said the phantom and pelican were going to be useable and they were going to have some "fun" features and they even teased flying it in multiplayer. The art gallery for forge even had the pelican in it along with all the beta maps vehicle and non vehicle having the pelican and phantom in it.
That's not why the legs don't fold up. So the pelicans in multiplayer are actually set up and scripted to have their landing gear raised. Even ones carrying vehicles are scripted to have ropes deployed like in the campaign. The issue comes down to when a pelican spawns in to deliver a vehicle, it spawns in fresh which means a driver is spawned into the vehicle and the vehicle turns on. When a vehicle turns on an activation animation plays, the Wasp's canopy closing for example. The problem is is that this activation animation gets overwritten in priority by a crap ton of other things already going on in the match such as players getting into vehicles of their own (Player scripting is one of the highest priorities on the execution list). This is also further aggravated by server latency and so on. But I'm sure this can be fixed, just with everything related to multiplayer scripting in all games, when problems like these occur they can be a pain to solve.
@Nicholas LaRock noticed this too, and it is actually stuck in a half-way animation because when the rear wheels are out, the front wheel is still tucked in on multiplayer as you can see, but when the player exits, the front wheel deploys with the rear ones, so the animation is maybe half played? Or half stuck or something, I would have thought it was all wheels, or no wheels out.
@@Spendingryan No, I believe you're right since when you get in the pelican there's a significant delay before the landing struts start to rise. I really wish I had access to the game's code so I can figure out what's going on. I'm legitimately really interested in this problem. Lol.
Has anyone published this map so I don't have to figure out how to code this like it shows?.. ok. nvm, I got the whole script stuff down but how did you get a pelican to spawn in it? Is this a default map with a fake one sitting somewhere? What map is this forge? I think I can actually do it. I just wanna try and fly it around. LOL EDIT: as far as I know the maps called "pelican playground" but you have to code this in yourself in forge. I havn't attempted it yet. I havn't learned how to link those grids together but I guess that is how this worked. EDIT2: The pelicans don't load in forge when you start the map up. It gives you warnings in the layout miniscreen. Even tho all the coding is there on the graph and stuff. I'm sad sauce. lol.
@@randomillegalprimagen Yes. They had a recent huge shakeup lasting from way before Bonnie leaving to way after. It's now being run, hopefully, by people who understand Halo and it's community. As soon as the new management took over, they shut down a lot of things Bonnie had planned before leaving, and started planning/work on Cross-Core, fixing Season 3, etc etc etc on everything we, the fans, ACTUALLY want. Well, it was actually quite easy to make flyable pelicans in Halo 5 forge. There's likely a video demonstrating that online somewhere.
You could do it in reach with that one Easter egg in New Alexandera
As someone who played Halo 1 PC custom games online with modded maps, it was glorious.
in forge on 4 you can spawn a pelican and a lot other vehicles
I blame halo studios for not giving us a flyable pelican and phantom to play with in custom games and I also blame bungie
I knew it had to be flyable! Where there's a will, there's a way
And where there's a vehicle entity, there's almost assuredly some way to get in it

The way the drop ship worked as a mobile spawn point in Star Wars Battlefront was pretty sick.
Now that is a good idea
Hopefully this means the return of flyable pelicans in campaign
