Good work on the cat. My name is Charlie. I run. Keep it simple mobile auto solutions in San Antonio. Texas, I have the same exact car with the same exact problems. They already put A new PCM Thanks for awesome info may GOD BLESS You and yours
I don’t work on cars or motorcycles at all anymore I’m too old and I’m old school. I’m mightily impressed with the way you tenaciously track down a problem. Just like when I worked in telecom data communications. All about checking the wiring, and the components. Well done Eric👍.
Eric absolutely outstanding video, one of the best as far as learning Can Bus basics and troubleshooting techniques. Love your patience and the fact you never doubted yourself ! Once again absolutely Great Work !!!
I think that happens only to the best on the industry. You are one of the best, always giving really good food for the brain. Great diagnostic process and always trusting your work. Excellent pal. Best regards.
Awesome video. I really like the in-depth explanations with the wiring diagrams. They can be so confusing sometimes so it’s really helpful to have you walk us through them.
Excellent work bro it has to suck to keep coming back knowing its not your fault and having the feeling the shop dont believe you... Thanks for filming ur hard work!
Just at the moment I have a Cadillac with a customer no start. Several issues to sort out. But likely not computer at can-bus or single wire. I found your troubleshooting excellent and I learned from lessons included in post. Thank you for the instruction and the "heads up" as part delivery with prior install to electrical part. I find my customers love their GM features and patient repair with test and confirm...competence has them returning...as individual and then as gathering their friends. I find that listening to my customers as what they expect...and delivering that expectation is when....they are 100% satisfied. I find when I can briefly explain in simple terms...what the problem might be works well.....and further, coach those people to good maint schedule. They like the comfort and general reliable Gm models. M
Just not your day ! I know how you feel , but you’re still the best mechanic , also honestly to the customer and very good review on the video footage. 👍
Great video. I'm looking at buying one of these that is a smoking deal because it has some similar problems to this one, this video gives me all the knowledge I need to actually fix it without just throwing money at it
Didn't understand much about the whole video other then you are good at what you do and seem to care about what you do, if you continue to do that and charge a fair price you will be very successful in life.
Another great video. It would be nice to do a video on how you program the ECU Eric. Thanks for sharing your high skill knowledge. I cannot get enough out of your videos. I am hooked on them. It's like a disease!!!
Had this exact same problem with my Mom & Dad 05 Cadillac SRX 3.6L. He ended up going with a remanufactured ECM from Flagship One. The first one was bad but the second was good. There is a small hole on the bottom of the steering column on the right side where a small screw driver can be put in there to release the key. This is a classic GM problem. Great video.
2+3=5: Sometimes when you know your stuff, because of certain situation you begin to doubt yourself. 1+1=2&1+2=3&2+3=5. It gets tricky when you have a situation where you have 2.4+3.4=5or6. Sometimes your laws are known but sometimes you have an unknown. I am glad you were sure of yourself. A situation like that would make a lot of people doubt self. I am so glad you did not let the dealer throw you for a loop.
Top diag Eric.Never had alot of faith in reman ecm's. If any module arrived in a box that had been opened or had greasy finger marks on the box (done the rounds in the workshop) it went straight back to the dealer. Some can't be trusted to do the right thing.
Yep classic! I have the same exact problem with my 06' and all say ECM, others blew a lot of money before they strike the answer. thanks for the truth in the video.
My friend gave me his 2003 CTS 3.2 L 5 speed manual transmission because he hated it. The guy that traded it to him, when my friend got into some police evading trouble and needed to off his own ride and which was a car that he had just paid 10,000 dollars for, had a body shop so he had my Cadillac looking nice but didn't know beans about mechanics so he hated it too since it had the limp mode problem. They thought it needed a new tranny. Lol. All I did was this procedure and the procedure where you wait 20 seconds wait and turn off and on the ignition without starting the ignition 3 times and boom! I have a bad ass sports luxury sedan! It has 150,000 miles on it. I'm never gonna stop driving it! It just needed the relearn procedure to the accelerator pedal positon sensor. The check engine light code P2138.
u r such pation man. i love what you r doing. i m learning lot from you. belive it or not. the messenger is familly. thanks lot. just stay on. you information for some are priceless.
Great video, I think that many people may have given up on this one, must have been very frustrating for you.. I enjoy all of your videos by the way , kind regards, Chris. U.K.
These CTS computers go bad all the time. I've changed around a hundred. They're so small and weak. Plus they are bolted right on the hot motor. I don't know why GM engineered these cars this way except to make people like you and me money. They're putting my kids thru college. All faulty CTS ECM's make the key get stuck. Also. If they were Class 2 error codes, I would have started scoping out the Class 2 data line first. Especially at the start of the engine. However, when I saw "key-stuck-in-the-ignition" problem I knew it was the ECM. Now this is an educational video. In that regard, I love how you took your time to explain to everyone in detail. That makes for a great learning video.
@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO Have the same issue with a 2007 CTS and the shop says it needs an ignition immobilizer module. Would you suggest replacing the ECM first and seeing if that's the real issue? The shop already replaced the ignition and battery.
This is a hot shot car mechanic supposed to do on difficult kind of troubleshoot ! Trouble not only in vehicle but also on supplied ECM, means both internal and externally, Double thumb up for you Eric ! Good job man !
Great Diagnosis! Short your long wires together, press zero on your meter if you have that feature or remember the residual resistance...Most electronic resistors are +/- 10% or more, so if it read about 110 to 130 ,I wouldn't sweat it, and on top of that test equipment also has tolerances that give a slight error...You're a good technician proving 3 bad ECMs...If anything, that shop now knows you are the "Tech to Call" when problems need to be solved!
Most digital test equipment is very small less than 0.1 % plus/minus one least significant digit. The load resistors the car module on the other hand is probably 10%, maybe if critical 5%...
Great video ,well done . I had this exact vehicle same issue ,I traced it too pcm . Me and the shop that had me trace it out did not have a way at the time to program ecu no j box ,had too ship it too dealer . Yeah being a tech for a long time when you get repeat parts with issues yeah it sucks when it looks like your throughing parts at it and not knowing what your doing I’ve been there with factory parts that are junk. You obviously know what your doing and they called you keep up the great content !
who are you? you are genius! I'm just starting to have problems with the key being stuck cause of AntiTheft after AAA installed a new battery - they did not follow the process of "home" on the battery. I was told I'd have to have the entire system re-programmed!
you are right on track. a technitian today have to be careful when measuring can data in the dlc port... there are many cars today that it is not possible because the can wires in the dlc goes thru a "gateway".... in this case the transmission ecu has the gateway built in.
Nice vid! You got skills! Maybe i'm mistaking but i once had a car, and i meassured the 60 ohm resistance for diag puspose, but also extreme high res. My mistake was that i meassured when there still was communication on tje bus. After let it fall to sleep.... resistance check was posible from obd. Love your vids, greets from the Netherlands
needs ECM.. boom ...under 1 minute into video....look forward to watching more of your videos. i like how you worked out where the terminating resistors were. deductive reasoning...they are doing something inside the pcm to share info and there is names to those electronic gizmos. i learned a little about gates the other day.there is also a little guy in there that says "it will be funny if i don't let them have the key"
watched the entire video .. very informational .. ben having same issue on this car with an 06 cts .. we replaced the ECm on the shop and still same issue .. this one is driving me nuts! lol
very good video thanks I just had a problem like Cadillac cts 2007 the owner bought a used pcm the car started but not ruun I told him to buy a new one but don't believe it in my diagnosis. Clase 2 Is the most common problems on this cadis.... thanks again
My boyfriend sent me this video, our cadi has literally every problem as the one in the video. We’re trying to get most of it done ourselves to save money and I think this video will be a HUGE help to us! I honestly wish you were in ny cause I wouldn’t have a problem that you wouldn’t get our car back to brand new. We have a code reader at home we can use for codes, obviously being in different states will codes be different to the codes you got on there? Stupid question I’m a girl and just learning 🤣

Damm right on that....

Dude you're a wizard. Also you're doing a great job making this super complicated stuff really understandable.
Eric is a diagnosis master! Diagnose Dan is pretty too, but Eric is the best...
Eric absolutely outstanding video, one of the best as far as learning Can Bus basics and troubleshooting techniques. Love your patience and the fact you never doubted yourself ! Once again absolutely Great Work !!!
Run over by the bus! Wow! So glad you made it through that mess unscathed.
Great diagnosis it’s always tough to say it needs a pcm but you did your due diligence and it worked with confidence of your experience
I think that happens only to the best on the industry. You are one of the best, always giving really good food for the brain. Great diagnostic process and always trusting your work. Excellent pal. Best regards.
I am a mobile tech and you are what a tech should be all about. 🥋
Awesome video. I really like the in-depth explanations with the wiring diagrams. They can be so confusing sometimes so it’s really helpful to have you walk us through them.
Yes
Great video and explanation of isolating the issue. You know your stuff. Patience and logic. Thanks for taking the time to go through your steps.
You really know your electronics very well especially from wiring it is a a treat to see your videos
Well done for your tenacity, Eric.
Excellent work bro it has to suck to keep coming back knowing its not your fault and having the feeling the shop dont believe you...

You did an awesome job! That was not an easy thing to find. Great job.
Wow! What a headache! Glad you got it going!
Omg what a nightmare. Have been in similar dilemmas before. I feel your pain man. Good job sticking to it to the end.
Awesome work, thanks for explaining all the stuff with the 4 computers. Its almost incredible.
Unbelievable this issue extended too. Outstanding work !
Great job Cadillac most of the times come to my shop with bad ecm diffrent issue you’re the man buddy
Excellent case study and diagnosis. I like it. Great job.
Persistence has its rewards. Great job on the Caddy.✌️
Just not your day ! I know how you feel , but you’re still the best mechanic , also honestly to the customer and very good review on the video footage. 👍
Wow! 3 bad replacement PCMs in a row, plus the original bad one! Now that's some bad luck! Another outstanding video.

Great video. Probably the sneaky dealership was trying to offload old stock thinking it was still good. Glad its all fixed. Good job.

Please show this video to your Shop Manager. I've been down this road, it pays to show your leadership to your managers. Nice Job.
What a nightmare! Well done Eric cheers sandy
Allright!! I always look forward to you and oz putting out a video. Good stuff, from great techs! Thanks for all you do!
Great video. Nice explanation of the problems and the steps to the solution. But it would have been great to see how the programming is done

What a great video. Thanks a million
Saved me alot.
Great diagnosis bro! 👍
Thank you for the upload 🙏🙏🙏
You're the man amigo good job and thank you for sharing
Great diagnostic !
forgot to tell u that u did a great job. not many people would have ended up with a successful repair.
great vid and brilliant detective skills there, shame about the dodgy ecm's making you look bad/second guessing yourself.
That's crazy!! Great video!
Nice approach to the fix In my mind (bob) was the clue as far as resistance at 6 and 14 Cheers
Great diag and video. Thanks for sharing.
Can't believe the hassle to get a proper working part, just stupid.
Always good to see you man.
Thank You!
