I'll just add one thing, this was about 20 years ago, outer Brisbane area, I was told by a policeman when I was pulled over for a random breath test (passed) that I could be fined for driving with a 'P' plate on my car as I had a full license, my son had been driving my car and I forgot check and remove the magnetic plates, - that's also why we don't have 'stickers' - not all 'L' or 'P' platers have their own car.
As far as I know, that law still holds in Tassie & Victoria also - yeah I hadn’t thought about the permanency of a sticker vs our L & P plates - with L plates especially, so many Australian teenagers learn in the family car!
How about we give Ashleigh some slack? Sure she accidentally omitted 5 or 6 words that created misinterpretation and misunderstanding but she knows Australia well enough to know not to imply that you can buy P plates from the shop and start driving without passing the test first.
I don’t think that’s what she was trying to say about the L and P plates. She was saying simply you can buy the plate at the shops rather then line up in their horrible version of the transport authority (DMV). She understands that there is still a formal process to get your licence here. She was saying it as a good thing because she has said before how horrible it is at the DMV in the USA. It takes you a full day of your time to get the smallest thing done at a DMV. She is very pro Australia
If that’s what she was trying to say, then she should have actually said it that way rather than the way she did & beginning with “At least in America”. Perhaps she did mean it differently, but if so, she struggled to convey that! Thank you though! I do appreciate you sharing your perspective ❤️
Main thing she stuffed up was making it seem a P plate indicated you are a Learner driver which is totally wrong. Whatever her point was she wanted to make she was very confused, herself in the video she created between what an L and P plate was. If she lived here two years she probably should learn from this mistake. If you create videos you need to be able to accept when you stuff up. Surprising mistake from her given her profession of choice is a researcher in a science field where being precise is super important. I read her other comments to other people where she tried to dismiss it but this video I see here today is a good review of what really a storm in teacup and would not exist if she just accepted her mistake or delete the video because it is misleading and confusing in a number of ways even if it was not meant that way as an idea. Watched quite a number of her other videos and a good series of her time adapting to living out of your nation of birth. One poor video is not the end of the world so will continue to watch some of her videos when the pop up on my feed, unless such mistakes become a pattern.
@@shaundgb7367 It’s just what I got from it but I could be wrong. I agree it’s far from her best work and I can see how it could become very confusing to her American/ international ordinance. She means well most of the time. Also she isn’t afraid to call out things in the USA that have become ridiculous to her after living here for some time.
Well said! Yes, I’ve quite enjoyed her previous videos. I can appreciate that she may feel somewhat sensitive about people’s comments about her video, but as RUclips creators, we need to take on board people’s comments (unless they are intentionally trolling) in order to grow as a channel. She’s young, we don’t all start out in life being readily able to accept our mistakes and grow from them….
My interpretation was the exact same as yours. I politely expressed it in the comments and she had a bit of a go at me for it. I apologised but pointed out that multiple others had interpreted it the same way. Anyway, the resultant un-sub (which I didn't make a point of and just did quietly) might seem extreme but there are heaps of good "why in Australia?" RUclipsrs you can pleasantly interact with and not have them snap back if you've inadvertently "misinterpreted" what they're talking about! I'd do exactly the same if this happened face to face: "Anyway, nice chatting - see ya!"
Yep! I will quite often unsub to someone if I make a comment and they come back at me over it! Surely she read other comments and realised how many people were interpreting what she was saying specifically in the way that I outlined? I suspect that she’s not yet gained the maturity to accept criticism or differences of opinion, but if she continues putting out videos like this one, she may need to try and learn those skills pretty quickly…..
😂😂😂 it’s all good! For me, as someone from the southern part of Australia, Queensland accents like hers just sound so broad & coarse - I’d imagine that unless you do come from southern Australia, then it’s going to sound the same …. Or maybe it’s just my very Tasmanian ear… 😂😂
@@CheekyKoala Well maybe your accent is more Jacqui Lambie. :) I respect her now, not originally BTW. I didn't mean to make a big deal about it. I do appreciate someone who can conduct a civil conversation on RUclips though :) I'm from South Australia and we have different accents again.
I used to tease my Sydney cousins about their accents when I was young- I think we all seem to have different sounding accents- I wasn’t offended- simply amused 😂😂
"At least in America", seriously? She's been here 2-3 years, but all her experiences appear negative and uninformed, why stay here? I believe you have been too kind to her! 👍
Yes the “At least in America” really grated on me also! I’ve been told that I can be “too kind” - right now though, she is coming across as negative and uninformed!
Is there an international vlogger you dont whinge about some of them are gonna get things wrong, we're by no means perfect, you whinge about their negativity get off your high horse
I don't think she meant any harm per se more a case of being an official sticker from the Motor Reg Department rather than an unofficial one from a private company. You make a good point though there's plenty that would deem this to be the case (easy to get a license). Most of her content is very good. The one on dangerous animals for instance. Now there needs to be 100's more like that one to balance out all of the clickbait dangerous animals clips that no doubt scare so many tourists away from Australia. It seems so many are paranoid about being attacked it's ridiculous.
I’ve heard people say that they won’t come to Australia because there are so many animals that could kill them - personally, I’d feel safer exploring the Northern Territory (observing warning signs of course) than hiking in a national forest in America where I could meet bears, hyenas & who knows what else! Yes, Ashley has some pretty good content usually. I did feel that she is going to cause confusion with this one… check out my video called “They don’t like Australians” (or something along those lines….) it’s dingbats like them who I worry about when I see good creators putting out videos that could be misleading…..
@@CheekyKoala To be fair your fear of meeting hyenas in American forests is a misrepresentation. One would have to time travel back something like 8000 years to find hyenas in America but yeah bears would be at least as scary as anything Australia has.

I do like Ashley, but what she knows vs what she said are two different things, she did give the wrong impression with this video IMO
"she's basically repeated herself there, but she's saying the same thing" - I see what you did there.

This is a whole load of codswallop
True!
Is that Pauline Hanson narrating? I agree that the original video made it seem you could go into the servo and buy your licence by buying the plates.
😝 please don’t compare me with Pauline Hanson - my accent is very different 😂😂 (I hope??)
