    Are you guys familiar with the fitting place and youtube channel Cool Clubs? They set up a robot to hit putt the exact same every time, they found out the drop off between center and off center hits for this new AI face was 1/3rd of the standard face. It was something like 6 inch difference in a regular face and just 2 inches on this AI face.

    I realized over this season that it was time to upgrade the Odyssey Rossie with the stronomic insert that I have used forever because I was playing on faster greens and my feel/speed was all over the place. After testing 8-10 putters, I opted for the OG White Hot Rossie DB and switched to a Sweet Rollz oversized grip. I honestly had a hard time being consistent and feeling contact with the Tri-Hot, Versa, Scotty, Cleveland HB and TM putters using my ball of choice and coming from a very firm insert. I am a feel and pace putter and the OG White Hot was exactly what I was looking for-

    • @bigboigolf
      @bigboigolf Год назад +4

      You're never going to get any sort of robot testing from these guys, what it would show is that this is another putter around the 25 oz-in^2 MOI putter that literally everyone has been making for 30+ years. Just like you're never going to see them ever put these "forgiving" golf clubs they love talking about on a robot test like Cool Clubs did (and spoilers: "Forgiving" golf clubs aren't forgiving at all).
      Do these putters come with adjustable weights so you can change the head weight? Sure. Could you theoretically mix and match toe/heel weights to mess with the toe hang? Also sure. Problem is: Everyone else is doing that or already did it.
      The reason you see a lot of people gravitating towards half mallets, mallets, and even things like the LAB, are because the MOI of those putters is like 30-40+ oz-in^2.
      They look nice though, shame they changed the weight shape to force people into buying new weight kits, but that's par for the course for Odyssey.

      @simmi352 Год назад +1

      @@bigboigolf how does MOI work in putters if the face tech is already correcting the variation at impact?

    • @bigboigolf
      @bigboigolf Год назад +1

      @@simmi352 The face tech IS MOI. What you'll notice is that these putters are 355-360g head weight, similar to the Tri-Hot 5k (5000g-cm^2 or 27.3 oz-in^2), whereas the Scotty Cameron Super Select Newport 2 is 340g. When 2 objects collide, the collision will convert the mass and velocity of the striking object into both velocity and spin of the impacted object. The more deviation between the 2 centers of mass, the more that ball speed will be converted into backspin, and you'll notice a sensation of wiggling when the impact is off center.
      This same principle applies in regular golf clubs btw, with a term you're familiar as a ratio called Smash Factor, which is related to loft presented at impact relative to the path of the object on approach.
      When an object distributes its mass further away from its center of mass, its MOI increases, which requires more force to rotate an object about its axis. In this case, the USGA regulates MOI on the XX axis, or Face Turning Left or Right. The USGA does not regulate MOI on the axis of rotating the face pitching up and down, nor rolling toe up/heel down and toe down/heel up. Mostly because it's generally pointless.
      Anyways, the more mass an object has (such as NP2 340g vs this at 355g), the higher its MOI value is, and upon impact of unfavorable conditions, the less ball speed loss will occur. Keep in mind the AI One's claims is this, verbatim:
      "*Ai-ONE Urethane delivers putts up to 21% closer to the hole from 32’ and Ai-ONE Milled up to 7% closer compared to a Scotty Cameron® Super Select Newport 2.
      Based on robot testing with a 15 point face map."
      This means, if we took a random bad putt from 32 feet, and lets say the NP2 had a remaining feet to the hole of say 5 feet, the AI One Urethane AT MOST would be at 3.95 or 4 feet. The deviations as the putts are shorter get larger apart and may be considered to be impossible. As the distances get shorter, the practical effects of these claims aren't worthwhile (Example: 1 foot vs 0.79 feet).
      Keep in mind this is the LARGEST value of the set of mishits, with the milled being UP TO 7% closer on SOME mishits, with both AI putters being 15 - 20g heavier and supposedly having a better MOI. That's the whole point of "Up to". Notice how they did not use Average or Median, and did not specify which impact location produced the results, nor how far away from the CoM it was. In putting, if you're more than 3/4" away from the CoM toe or heel (which is the max deviation from 20+ handicappers), the putt will be awful. If you putt inside of 1/2" of CoM (Tour and Scratch players are around 5/32"), then the MOI will be almost irrelevant (Because you're hitting very close to the CoM and having a high quality strike).
      You'll also notice that Odyssey is not comparing their AI One claims about their technology vs the Tri-Hot 5k flagship product from last year, and they have to target a particular blade putter model (Blade Putters, by definition, have a lower MOI because their physical bounding box frame is smaller). to make these claims.
      It's not that they aren't correct, it's that, realistically, it doesn't matter when you have an actual semi-competent putting stroke.
      If you're actually concerned about MOI for putters, you'd be playing a heavy 360+g mallet head, and not a blade putter. Or... just learn how to hit a putter, not exactly hard.
      You have to decide if this fringe technology that can be beaten by simply heavier weights is worth $300/$450 MSRP. Those of us in the technical realm know these claims come out of extremes and, quite frankly, ridiculous comparisons.
      After all, Odyssey doesn't have to be honest about their self-testing and has not and will not ever release the data.

    • @bigboigolf
      @bigboigolf Год назад +1

      @@simmi352 Oh by the way, I forgot to add: Fun fact, most blade putter Center of Mass isn't on the sight-line, it's a tid bit more heel-side. Very common in NP2/Anser styles (I have an NP2 clone in CAD) and even the Del Mar is heel side.
      Would I worry about it? Nope! I'd stick to focusing on my putting stroke, and if a putter doesn't feel good, I'd replace it with a different head style where the toe-hang matches up more with how I actually consistently putt.

    • @canyonaro
      @canyonaro Год назад +3

      @@simmi352The face tech is supposed to keep the impact ratio/smash factor consistent across the face so you don't leave it short if you toe it or heel it a bit.
      MOI relates to direction/resistance to twisting. They did Odyssey no favors here - Odyssey claims the milled version isn't as good as the insert version wrt to the variable face tech. Also, Mikey picked a blade shape that twists a lot on toe hits. A mallet shape with the insert is objectively better in consistency of both speed and direction.

    I dont think putter technology matters as much as sightline "technology" to give your brain an accurate read on line and pace you might need. This is why I custom ordered a Taylormade Spider putter as they are the ONLY ones Ive seen that have the big fat "T" alignment line that works WONDERS with my brain.
    I tried every putter in the store but I still couldnt beat the mind muscle connection of using that sight line all those years ago in store, but they bloody discontinued the thing EXCEPT in custom order. So I got it and it was 1000% even better than before lol. Now I believe they brought it back (ofc they did 🙄).

Can you give the details on what you do if the new grip you install is heavier (or even if it’s lighter) than the stroke lab. I think everyone would benefit from knowing the answer to this. Because if we bring to someone to change the grip, they aren’t doing anything to the shaft and are just changing the grip.

It's to the point where 'Designed by AI' is virtually meaningless. To base the entire product range under the AI name is hilarious - guessing they'll look back and cringe at themselves in the not too distant future. Taylormade and Callaway continue to cement themselves as marketing companies, and as a golfer who doesn't renew clubs every season it makes them easy to avoid.

Very much like Gore of Gore-Tex - there's only so much repackaging you can do every year once patents have ran out. There's certainly not a large increase in gains for putters year in year out.
      I'm sure for certain golfers who need it, the tri-hot putters might be better than certain ping anser models from 50 years ago.

    i THINK THIS ai CRAP IS BEING USED TOO MUCH FOR MARKETING, Not much has changed in the way they make clubs, design them, produce them, My main question is how do they say AI created this putter? surely engineers have by now have the scope to know where the weight can be , how much room they have, material used, not much has changed in terms of design, blades and mallets. Ai has been around for 25 plus years, Is it just a marketing tool to get people excited to buy "new tech" does this putter really drop more putts?

      I'm not sure I've seen anyone claiming it will make people hole more putts. Just more consistent ball speeds.

      Exactly, they’ve been doing simulations for years but AI is the new hip thing

      Constant speeds means more putts holed, it’s science. Did you get the jab?
