"A man gets tied up to the ground, he gives the world its saddest sound" "It" refers to the world (or the earth, the universe, existence). Out of all the possible expressions in the world, this situation with the man being tied to the ground is the saddest one that the world has to show. If it said "he gives the world his saddest sound", then that would refer only to the man. That is, out of all the feelings and experiences that the man has, this one of being tied to the ground is his saddest, and that's the one he gives or contributes with his life. Both would be grammatically correct, but the meaning changes. Hope that helps!
