Youre not alone. Its my fave. I love every film but this one has Simon’s greatest ever performance and like you said, it means a lot to me too.
I have a history with addiction and know a lot of people like Gary King. He’s not the initially most likeable character (and i think thats why some struggle with it) but once you get behind the surface, you can see that Gary is a complex and tragic character but somehow Edgar and Simon still make this character HILARIOUS.
      Endlessly rewatchable and quotable.
The most misunderstood of his films imo and my number one ranked Edgar Wright film.

    • @grahamjones4366

@@bigandycraik Can’t agree more. I think it carries an emotional weight some of Wright’s other films lack (I still think all of them are great, though). Gary King is such an amazing character and the “To err is human” scene makes me feel proud to be human which is rare.

World's End is underrated, Hot Fuzz is overrated. There, I said it. It might be because I just find the characters more interesting in World's End. It might be the most emotional out of the entire trilogy and I just enjoy the Alien aspect more and I think the fight scenes are done better than in Hot Fuzz; and Hot Fuzz in general I just find a bit boring, maybe it's because the main character is so unrelatable.
Also, Scott Pilgrim is an All-Timer in my opinion. My favorite Edgar Wright movie without a doubt.

Buddy seems to live Edgar Wright too. Maybe he even loved A Fistful of Fingers and wanted you to take it back?
Regardless, this was a fun list. Other than Villeneuve, this really might just be your most positively-skewed tierlist, which is awesome too see.
My List (Will Be Seeing Soho within the next couple days, high hopes despite middling reviews from most other places):
    Awful -
    6. A Fistful of Fingers (Abysmal. Don't wanna be mean for a first, extremely mini-budget feature, but goodness do I find this droll, unfunny, awkward, and very offensive. I found no heart or charm here. Well and truly hated it unfortunately. Everything else is much more positive.)
    Good -
    5. Hot Fuzz (Just didn't find this one as funny for some reason. Still sports fun twists and Wright's usual polish though, and that finale is magnificent.)
    - The Sparks Brothers (I think it's worth including; lovely lovely tribute to a great band; extremely thorough and makes good use of the format but runs a tad long)
    Great -
    4. Shaun of the Dead (Instant classic. Don't love it as much as others do but it's hard not to see how clever, witty, honestly goofy, and completely of-itself this is being the entire time. It really does straddle the line of drama and comedy far too finely to notice. Finale felt a bit too straight compared to everything else, but other than that, no wonder people adore this one.)
    3. Baby Driver (Used to be one of my favourite movies, but time and more films have soured it a tad. Creating an action musical is such a brilliant idea and way of keeping its pace. Never loses steam for a minute, a cinematic joyride. Sure, its stock sidekick might reek, but Lily James has loads of charisma along with the rest of the cast to bring the simplistic script to life. Everybody here brings their best to make an instant summer classic.)
    2. The World's End (Very satisfying and fun. I don't understand where the hate is for this. Ending is absurd but that is absolutely the point. This one is pulpy, charming, genuinely emotionally investing, ridiculously well-made, and an amalgamation of the Cornetto trilogy's greatest assets. Just lovely.)
    Awesome -
    1. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Brilliant. Feels like where Edgar's early spontaneity and late-career genre thrillride meet up perfectly. This is a true idiosyncratic vision with a teen's spirit, edited in the way that they may see life. It has genuine substance and such a combination of pop style and hammy performance that this epitomizes his career. I really don't see the hate for this one. Imperfect for sure, but utterly phenomenal nonetheless)

Baby Driver is so good, it gets way too much hate lol I get why people may not like it, but I think what most people don’t like about it are purposeful choices that were made to contain the tone and style, rather than just failed attempts to convey a story, it’s just not for everyone lol I love it though, it’s very unique and very self-aware in a way that makes the simplistic story work very well despite how simple it really is.

Well it seems like (aside from Fistful of Fingers) Wright can do no Wrong.

I’m in the minority but the only one I didn’t like of his is Baby Driver. I found it a bit corny but I’ve only seen it once and may need to try it again.

Don't love Scott pilgrim, but still... Edgar wright is an outstanding director and writer. All his movies are at least great

Hot Fuzz is my least favorite. It's just fine, some funny bits, but man, is it the most overrated comedy of all time. Scott Pilgrim and World's end are top tier for me.
