      so, AMD is basically the opposite of intel?

    • @gamerdweebentertainment1616
      @gamerdweebentertainment1616 4 года назад

      Because intel stupid... AMD currently disables support due to BIOS Memory issue... which made me realise... RIGHT intel has like 20 cpus per gen while AMD like 10 or less... so... technically 1151 could have been 4 gens? Sadly Mobo manufacturers don't do "unique" Bioses... hell I would pay for that shit as long as I could upgrade to new gen CPU... Intel wasting money on extra useless CPUS... now they're behind on tech advancement.

    • @yumri4
      @yumri4 4 года назад

      @@gamerdweebentertainment1616 well you can only store so much inside of 32MB though most are 8MB or 16MB so it makes sense that AMD will have to drop support for older CPUs or split up BIOS support between them. Intel does it by just having not to many CPUs per motherboard that can run them. The resaon for the small size is it is quicker to run through 8MB then a bigger chip size like the 1GB chips on DDR and NAND Flash has even higher densities than that. The thing is do you want your computer to boot in seconds OR do you want a big data chip that can hold more than you will need on your motherboard?
      Intel does the "replace your entire system" thing most likely for 2 reasons. 1 They make more money but also 2 they have more CPUs per gen and putting 60 CPUs mircocode onto a signle firmware chip will be to much unless they require manufactures to go to the 32MB version of the chip which is logically slower than the 8MB and 16MB versions of the chip. Then you have that they will also have to require them to move back to the BIOS design of the interface from the modern design to save on space used.
      Then i just thought of a 3rd one. Intel wants to segment the market more than AMD so they have more CPUs per segment and all segments have to be in the firmware on the motherboard. They also come out with new ones and some security patches so the manufacture has to leave some space for updates making the space they can use even less. 1 work around would be to have the UI we say is the UEFI be on a different chip with all these CPUs mircocode and more on it then have the profile we are using moved over to a smaller chip that is actually used during boot but it being a one way send and not able to receive anything from the boot chip.
      As I thought of it I am sure some one smarter than me also has and there most likely is a problem with it. Most likely how to make it work electronically so it is a one way circuit and no feedback to come but still have firmware updates be a thing you can do and not have a ROM chip instead of a EEPROM chip for the UEFI. EEPROM allows you to update it ROM well doesn't. It will prevent any and all the firmware hacks that are being found in the boot sequence but it will carry with it its own complications too.

Rather than penalizing the chipset group, they created this hybrid as a bridge to when the two product roadmaps sync up again.

    It's $30 RRP higher than a 3900X for 2 less cores and 600MHz higher single-core boost clock, but it's got a 20W higher TDP which is likely to reduce multi-core boost clock in practice. Intel's reference memory speed is 2933 vs. AMD's 3200, and they still don't have PCIe 4.0 support. For now it seems like a bit of a toss-up as to whether the 10900K or 3900X is a better value proposition. My suspicion is that benchmarking will show similar performance between the two on air cooling, probably tipping slightly towards AMD for multi-threaded loads, and the key differentiating factor for buyers will be motherboard prices.

    • @RyTrapp0
      @RyTrapp0 4 года назад +2

      Oof, that's a tough lesson to learn the hard way
      Don't forget though, AM4 is only going to be around for one more product cycle, so you won't have an upgrade path if you invest into AM4 with a Zen 3 CPU. I'm sure what you have has more than enough performance to last two more product generations, but, as a fellow enthusiast that always wants much more power than required(about to upgrade my 2600 to a 3700x today - definitely don't need it, definitely still want it...), I know how that scenario sucks.
      But, AMD has a long history of socket life cycles & backwards/forwards compatibility, as they have with AM4, as they did with AM3, and so on. So, although we don't have anything official about the next socket and it's forwards/backwards compatibility, I think it's pretty safe to say that it should also last 4 product cycles/generations, just like AM4 has/will.
      Just some food for thought

I think the board sensors produce an improper readout of the core temps. Also the max temp threshold in the bios Q Controller is 73c. Therefore the cpu temp exceeds the max limit of the bios and i think causes the system to shut down. I have it in a semi stable state to where i can run cinebench but during benchmark, the mouse becomes inoperative and the rgbs on the computer freeze during the test. Sometimes results in a bluescreen. Any ideas? Im beginning the board cant handle the 9900k. Just purchased the 9900 less than a week ago to replace a 8100 in a build for my wife I started a year ago.

      First off have you updated the BIOS? The processor is supported starting BIOS 0602 released 2019-03-28 but may have needed several updates since for stability. Also clear the CMOS RAM after changing the CPU, refer to manual "Clear RTC memory" for instruction.
      Second off it's difficult to judge which temperatures you are supposed to get, i mean 94°C at benchmark load can be normal... but if it's instant then it definitely isn't. What cooler are you running again? It depends on the set power limit, i mean at 95W and a semi reasonable cooler, you should be able to avoid climbing that high. Just above 100°C, the CPU may power off for safety.
      Look at HWInfo or something for temperatures reported by individual CPU cores, they are mainboard independent. I don't think it's at all likely that mainboard temperature sensor is reporting wrong. I think you're really running hot.

    wonder if anyone would try modding the socket keying to see if 10th gen cpus would work in lga 1151 mobo, with a modded bios like lga 771 in 775 board

    One guess is that Intel wants to pre-seed LGA1200 motherboards for the next-generation processor?

    The socket change is necessary because of the power draw and OEM's. ;)

    49 additional pins for making extra money by selling more motherboard chipsets of course! I f**king hate Intel. Their response to Zen 2 is pathetic, and Zen 3 will drive it into the ground. ETA 4 months.

    They might need the new socket for increased power delivery. +2 cores, increased TDP, increased clocks - the increased power draw must be non-trivial.

    But bottomline: even if intel doesnt bring something for gamers and especially the consumer market its doesent matter. Intel earns a lot of money on other sides. And i think thats the reason why they dont emphasise on beating amd and ryzen.

    Desktops at 24 lanes is absurd these days. 8 for the PCH/chipset, 16 for GPU and 12 or 16 for storage makes sense. 40 or 48 lanes would be sensible. TR to 96 or 128. Epyc to 192 or 256.

    If they'd made all the skylake derivatives compatible with Z170 onwards, I'd buy a 10-series CPU. But, since i have to change my mobo anyways in this system, I'm probably gonna go AMD. I have 2 240 rads in this case (which I like), and I run an x80 ti GPU. I don't think I have the headroom to cool a 10-core skylake. But I can handle a 12 or even 16 core Zen2 (and hopefully zen 3 later this year), so I expect by the end of the year I'll have a 3080 ti and an R9 4900X or something like that.

    In all honestly who wants balls to the wall gaming rig this cpu is excellent and you could even upgrade to next gen i9 finally with pcie gen 4. Amd am4 socket is on its last legs too (besides 300 and 400 series support fiasco) so if i would want The best gaming rig and dont care about cpu heat/operating noise i would get 10900k. I currently have 3700x with x570 CH8 and looking forward to 4950x.

    Looking at the intro, if you want to test how's your multicore CPU is working for a heavy single threaded demanding game (+ 7 optional used threads) just run Arma 3 Tanoa scripted mission (like Old man) in 4K at max setting and watch you GPU idling at 30%, while one CPU thread is screaming à 95%, (others are chilling at 0-35% btw). It is one of the only game who can put Intel turbo boost a total garbage, because other core are "slighlty" used thus limiting the whole rendering process. At least you may enjoy that your overclocking can speed up your FPs from 27 to 31FPs and call it your day.
