Very relatable about feeling the need to be perfect or nothing at all. That's how I have a pile of clothes that need to be put away, and Christmas gifts not finished (paintings)
Ha, I am in the exact same spot. Piles to deal with, and crocheting a chanukah gift for my wife (chanukah starts on Christmas this year, so you and I are on the same deadline)
I often feel that I lack the drive that is necessary for existence under capitalism because I simply don't find purpose or meaning in any certain goals which often leaves me at odds with my own studies (cue me jumping down this content rabbit hole instead of studying for finals). I don't see an issue with my own lack of goals as I think that the wealth of experience is experience itself and while goals can lend you direction, they cannot truly fulfill you, but I do oftentimes wish that I could push myself to do 'better' sometimes even though I feel that all will fall in place for better or worse and my experience will be mine no matter how well I do. Sometimes I just want to make the world a better place and I do, of course, have a plan for the future, but I just don't have a need or a drive to *do* anything which certainly complicates actually achieving my goals - PhDs are not so easy to come by though I have been granted quite a wealth of luck to even be able to attempt such a thing. idk where I was going with this but yeah I definitely have trouble making progress oftentimes and I can't help but wonder how people have found their own drive to pursue their goals. comment for the algorithm! I enjoy your content and I think your ideas ought to be heard by more people.
Thanks for the comment, and it sounds like you and I have a lot in common. I've spent a lot of my life (so far) pursuing an inherited understanding of "success" and it didn't do much to make me happy (I touch on this in my latest video, though it also gets into some heavier topics). What are your current studies?
I'm in undergrad studying Chemistry and I'm trying to start a dual degree with Materials Science and Engineering because I think I would enjoy the classes. I did want to get a minor into social or political science because I'm interested in that side of things as well but I doubt I would have the time or energy for that.
@@brainnowork that sounds extremely interesting! But also definitely sounds like a lot of work. For whatever it's worth, I often found it challenging to stay motivated in school, but it got (somewhat) easier once I found material that really grabbed me. Hopefully you can find something that grabs you too.
Hey enjoyed listening to you! Your dogs are lovely and your content is wonderful- ik the double digits is discouraging but I enjoyed how "human" it is listening to you, which has been hard to find in this place- i hope you find your audience ☆☆ don't let the numbers fool you, do what you love ♡ im listening to you as a podcast and you had me peeking over to see the mushrooms you sent your wife lol- glad to be a first subscriber 😎
Great story about the frog! I've also been trying to ween myself from speaking content, especially while commuting. Even though I mostly ride underground rail, which isn't really that stimulating, it's actually a great time to just let your thoughs run loose a bit. Even when I need stimulation, I'm now listening to music instead
