0:45 "Charlie's Angels? What is that all about?"
Always interesting to watch these episodes talk about the big shows and movies before they came out. Like the '77 episode where Fanny had been filming her parts in "Grease" the same day and came in dressed as Nurse Wilkins.

    H/H match update:
    ...
(Commentary: "My blind date last night reminded me of a Playboy centerfold: she had a staple in her _________." -- I'm not sure why, but that question really cracked me up, plus it illustrates the cultural gap between the 1970s and the 2020s. But it was a pretty easy question, with "navel" being the definitive answer.)
    Today's action:
Our exuberant champion wins a close game, earning a second shot at the big money. (Her first time around, she maxed out with a total of $5600, thanks to a H/H match with Richard.)
Today's audience match question: "Eddie _______" (Munster?!)
The celebs: Kate (Cantor), Richard (Fisher), and Brett (Albert), and then Jimmie shouts out "Eddie Kendricks" so our contestant actually has four suggestions now... -- Hmm, no one suggested my answer...
The choice: Fisher (It's hard to predict or remember who would have been top of mind to a studio audience that was polled in late 1975 or January 1976...)
The answers: Cantor, Fisher, Albert (Wow, Brett was chosen third and managed to pull out the top answer! That's rare. It's also rare for the celebs to come up with all three answers in reverse order, that is, from lowest to highest... And my answer was obviously a loser.)
Alright, now for the champion's big choice... (She's taken Richard's suggestion both days and chose Richard and won yesterday, so there's little drama here.)
    Today's H/H question: "_______ Pie"
I would say Apple. That's the most generic response. Plus, it's as American as... well, you know.
Richard began writing immediately. Still, he glances to his left (towards Patti) just before filing his card. It's rare that he doesn't look in that direction, no matter which semi-regular is playing.
The champion says "apple" without a trace of hesitation or doubt. Another easy-money H/H question.
Richard scores his 155th H/H match.
And, he crosses above the 41% accuracy mark for the first time.
Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 wins in 4 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts).
TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts).
    Fannie - 52.6% (10 wins in 19 attempts).
    Betty - 50% (17 wins in 34 attempts).
    Charles - 47.7% (21 wins in 44 attempts).
Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts).
    Richard - 41.0% (155 wins in 378 attempts).
    Brett - 38.5% (20 wins in 52 attempts).
    Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts).
*These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 657, excluding the lost/missing/damaged episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, and 645. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")

It's funny, between yesterday's episode, and today's episode, Gene, the stars, and the contestants have all changed. Like they went home for the day. But when they show Velma's parents in the audience, they have the same clothes on.

    • @magikexpert
      @magikexpert 4 года назад +2

I think that they sometimes tape two or three episodes in a day (or more). Where they change and act like it's a new day for each. Why she, or her family didn't I'm not sure? I can possibly see why the family didn't. But her not changing is strange.

    • @sdlively27
      @sdlively27 4 года назад +2

@@magikexpert They tapped, now, 12 episodes over a weekend period, 6 in one day, 1 MGPM and 5 CBS MG. Gene almost always changed, they did a Halloween week where Gene wore the same suit for 2 straight shows then changed. I think they tell the contestants to bring 5 changes so maybe there wasn't enough time for her to change or she didn't bring extra clothes.. The audience is there for 3 shows, then changed for the dinner break and the new audience it there for 3 shows. Not totally sure if the went one audience for 2 shows when they started to tape MGPM.

I just noticed that is Richard Dawson's son Mark in the audience at 15:10. He was not quite 16 here and still looking quite soft-cheeked. (That is my polite way of saying, no, that is not a girl.) He looked a great deal like his mother. That outfit he's wearing is pure 1970s glam rock.

@R Too many anti-Walker comments from those know-nothings. He was a star in the first sitcom with an African-American 2-parent family, long before Cosby Show. It had hit 7th place a year before, watched by over 25% of US households. He became very prominent and popular at the time. Very liked by America. Too bad those dips can't see past their noses. Obviously oblivious to the schtick that made him famous.

@@billwheeler7243 I do believe they tell the contestants to bring up to 5 changes of clothes as I am sure the contestants are told to maybe expect to be there a full day or all weekend, depending how many games they can get done in a week/day. Not sure. You know, some games go 3 questions then switch out, or 4 questions and a switch out. Or maybe have a tie breaker or two, or the contestants strikes on the super match.. But then again I wonder if they told the contestants which one were be on MGPM which would only required one change of clothes because well they wouldn't not be returning champ on it.
