Resin impregnated pine wood is commonly known in the bushcraft community as fatwood. It is most commonly used by woodsman around the world for fire lighting but there are many more ways of making this wood useful. In parts of the world the roots of pine trees where the pine resin is mostly present is used to make turpentine and other products like glues and water barriers for stoping posts from rotting.
Fatwood can be harvested from dead pine tree limbs, old pine tree trunks and the roots of pine trees, the resin usually collects in the core of the tree trunk and mostly lower down. This new woodland is full of resources so I’m sure we will be back with lots more adventures.
