@Gabby Rae I dunno, I'd sorta imagine that an organisation called the "National Fire Protection Association" knows how to protect themselves from fire and has things prepared to either protect themselves or escape from it, should the worst happen, but I guess that's just ludicrous to imagine, huh?
My mate (a fire fighter) and his colleagues sit in an old shipping container with a branch ready and primed, and watch as the flames go above their heads, apparently it's mesmerising to see. It's part of their training, they do a lot of drills to keep them refreshed on different scenarios, that still is one of his favourites to do, as well as smoke room training.
@Gabby Rae this was not a real house and was a video to show the public how fast a dried out Christmas tree can catch on fire within seconds and destroy everything... so nobody was in danger here ... just read the description and you would of known that 🙄
Geez, I cannot get over how fast and how much that fire grew! It makes me thankful that I happened to see this after Christmas, after we had already taken down our tree!
If there’s an electrical short, do you think a watered tree will stop a flame? Forests have tons of wet trees, but they still turn into infernos quite easily .
Wow, that is genuinely terrifying... less than 50 seconds and it's completely out of control. I'd say just 10 seconds that it was out of control. Back when we used real Christmas trees, we always used this basin contraption. Four screws on each side of the entrance, and a reservoir for water. I don't think we watered it daily, but I don't recall the reservoir ever being empty when it came time to take the tree out. I think we shut off the lights on the tree every night as well, as an added safety precaution. Also grew up in a house primarily heated by firewood, so when we were done with the tree, it'd have the branches cut/broken off outside, then cut into junks with a chainsaw. I think we had one electric heater though, and for some reason, it was in my room, but we never really used it. Old man would get up every morning and get the fireplace going, it'd stay burning all day, and of course at night would burn itself out, so the mornings were pretty damn frigged until the fire got going. I must say though, the warmth from a wood stove feels SO much better than artificial electric warmth, as weird (and possibly hipster) as that sounds. Somehow it just feels different; more cozy, more comfortable, and more relaxing. Got a wood stove in the shed, haven't used it in over a year, probably won't use it over the Winter, but the natural warmth of a real fire is just so nice... provided it's contained in a safe fireplace and not raging wildly in the livingroom... that would put a bit of a damper on the cozy and relaxing feeling of being warmed by a fire...
I have experienced a house fire myself and these kinds of videos are extremely scary for me. Stay safe! and always have a fire extinguisher in your house!!!!
The difference between a dry and watered tree in terms of flammability, is quite significant. Lol my 97 yr old grandfather was born on the family farm in a then rual area in 1924, recalls his parents placing real candles on the tree, as i began to laugh at him as a young boy that knew the dangers, he recalls the family would choose and cut the tree the day before xmax eve, and they removed the tree from the house the day after Christmas, ensuring it never had a chance to dry out, and they only lit the candles long enough for the children to open gifts, even then his father had a large tub of water at hand. As they did not have electricity till the late 1930s or early 1940s when he was in high school. Grandfather would never advise anyone use candles on a tree today, but despite the dangers the family never had a Christmas tree fire
If there’s an electrical short, do you think a watered tree will stop a flame? Forests have tons of wet trees, but they still turn into infernos quite easily .
Imagine the people who didn't take those precautions. And even with every precaution in the book, I would never put candles in a Christmas tree. To me, it's like reaching out to pet an alligator.😐 I don't understand why they didn't put reflectors on the tree lit by an external source, like stage lighting.
+jay90374 we actually didn't have that footage. Unfortunately all we had was the video you saw of the watered tree. We do have a comparison video that is a little older, ruclips.net/video/RNjO3wZDVlA/видео.html

One of the candles fell over amd lit the tree on fire and no one got out because the doors opened inward instead of out. It was pretty bad and those that were fond could only ve identified by a button or piece of fabric.

Do not let the watered tree fool you. If your Christmas tree catches on fire like this, at all period. Your living room is catching on fire too, you need to have proper fire extinguisher/retardant at the ready. The split minute u get to react, isn't nearly enough for the shock that the whole family often endures. What is true is mach-o man dad coming to the rescue when your tree does catch on fire and just rips it with the base, lights everything and just chucks it out the front door out into the front yard to put it out with a hose. But again that sap burns incredibly hot, quickly and its like a tar once it starts to burn it burns until it can't anymore and any sap that gets sizzled/popped. On your skin vice versa. Causes burn damage you would not even remotely think of.
This is why LED lights can be beneficial too since they also don’t get as hot as traditional ones but watering constantly is the most important and having working smoke detectors in every room is important.
