this is one of the best ballads ever recorded at motown, i have the lp, wandas voice and the arrangement are really 1st class, ive loved this track since i bought the Lp circa 1971 in fact there are many absolute gems on this album.
Also recorded by the Supremes with, I believe, lead vocals by Diana Ross and Jean Terrell both recorded. During the production of the "Cream of the Crop" album both Ross and Terrell recorded leads as no one knew when Diana would be leaving. That is because Berry Gordy Jr. insisted she must leave the Supremes with another one hit, and Diana was also committed to that. As it turns out, that number one single actually was to have been Ross; first solo single, "Someday We'll Be Together."
