Really Appreciate the update. And don't let people get to you on the Ecto's that are not 59's. They don't probably realize what it takes to find one, let alone the initial buy in plus mods.
@@unfinishedstudios I could imagine how easy things would be if you could. And also, the 2011 fanfilm you worked on(Or whenever it came out) holds a special place in my heart as one of the earliest fanfilms of anything related to pop culture that i've watched. I hope you can get as many people back for it from the first one as you can
Hey thanks, that means a lot! We're working on it. We're spread all around the country now, and everyone has families and careers. The screenplay I wrote accommodates that as much as it could, but it's a challenge. The main thing I'm doing right now is building all the sets, vehicles, and props/costumes -- but I've got some other film projects I want to finish before diving too heavily into that.
Like everyone else I’m super excited to see the final project of the afterlife ecto! I’m also super excited to see the sequel to the fan film! I love the first one and I can’t want to watch the second!
BRO!!!! Your going to have the best Ecto-1 with the gunner seat!!! MAN!!! YOU NEED TO DO A FULL BUILD VIDEO ON THIS!!! This is unique! It covers my two favourite kind of video! Car builds and ghostbusters stuff.
That's my plan. We gotta get her sort of put together and running before we can get too into that. I want to get that Ecto-1A done first, though. It's so close.
Bit of an unpopular opinion here, but I don’t think the Ecto having having a gunner seat is the BEST idea for mobile ghostbusting. I mean it makes the car 4 to 5 feet wider, turning corners are more difficult and 1 wrong move and the gunner is slammed into on-coming traffic. Technically it would make more sense to modify the red sniffer antenna on the roof rack into a proton cannon and have it be remote controlled from the inside with a monitor. Now this is just me being beyond nit picky and nerdy, honestly I think it’s super cool that you’re stepping up to the challenge to build this version of the car. Since this is an Ecto I don’t too many fans replicating in the future. It’s also great that your car is in a state where you can do pretty much anything to it structure wise, that way you don’t have to tear up and heavily modify a pristine/structurally intacted car. Wish you the best of luck on this car, the other cars and your upcoming sequel fan film.
As always, I appreciate the positive vibes! I agree that it wouldn't be practical in the real world. Too many things could go wrong. It's especially weird that the backwards jumpseat is the one that spins around to be the gunner. It's a lot better than that terrible roof-mounted thing on the Kenner toy, though!
Awesome video man. Honestly, the front end and wings already look great. It has a closer resemblance than most Ectos. Definitely consider making this Ecto your own! Look forward to more videos.
I might have a lead on some parts for your '60, I know of a '60 hearse with suicide doors in a yard in LaSalle Illinois. You might be able to get some glass/other things from it. It rusty, but mint in comparison to your car.
It would be absolutely amazing if you could get the original Ghostbusters cast and Jason Reitman to autograph the dash once it's finished. He'd love it.
New Subscriber here. Love the update report. I think it’s awesome you and your father were able to make your original Ecto car. It’s quite an accomplishment and looks awesome. Great bonding experience I bet. Can’t wait to see these new projects come to life as well. Haven’t watched your fan movie yet but looking forward to it! Keep up the great content.
i subbed because i really wanna see what you make of this. i always regret seeing people making ECTO-1 's of every car that has been a hearse, ambulance or even just any station-wag. if it aint a '59 it aint a ECTO-1. ***BUT*** in this case you got all my blessings because this is the best thing what can happen to this pile of s..t , No serious, you are really rescueing this car from worse. wishing you all the luck and success on the build and curious what will come of it. God bless. ow, and Merry Christmas.
I'm in South Carolina about an hour and a half from Athens. There's a decent '59 Caddy parts car in a junk yard over here. Let me know if you want a pic of it.
I'm usually pretty particular about keeping origanal, but seeing how *bad* this thing is, I don't care what you do with any of those cars as long as they don't go to a scrap heap. Please don't scrap any of those things. The money you could get from parts is probably more money than the effort of hauling it off. Anyway, great project! I just hope that someone can restore one of those so that we aren't just left with replica cars. I am awaiting progress!
Ok, first of all, let me know if you need parts, a friend has at least a dozen of these in beater condition. Second, I used to daily a pretty ratty 1960 hearse, so if anyone was in myrtle beach area and got the bird from a guy ina hearse, that was me. Stick a 80s van 9 inch rear in it, you'll thank me later. Better gears and easier to service brakes. 75 commercial chassis rear shoes fit the fronts by drilling one hole each side. Mine had a ram air 4 pontiac 400 after I got sick of swapping those cast iron trannies, then swapped for a 500 caddy. It went pretty good. Also, there's some goofy bolt up flange on the heater core under the dash with a rubber gasket, make sure to replace it. Carrier bearing rubber is gonna tear off. Go ahead and buy a new one. If any more tips from daily driving one of these 100 miles everyday comes to mind ill.let ya know.
Looking forward to see how this project goes, very pleased to see you are using all options. I've just ordered the new Hasbro Proton pack, hey its lighter than the original! I'm 70 give me a break. :o)
Not a ton. When you do most of the work yourself, it's... cheaper. I will say the '65 was $800 when we originally got it. It was all the money I had to spend on it, and when the dude said, "I'll take $800 for her" -- I yelled, "We'll take it!" not unlike Ray Stantz. My dad has never let me forget it. Probably would've gone for like $400.
The main Ecto-1A was repurposed as one of the three Ecto-1's used in afterlife. I'm so glad about that! Love seeing these cars being restored or at least made to run again & be used.
@@unfinishedstudios the only way I know how to tell which Wrecto-1 is the 1A, is look closely at the front bumper. The 1A has pilot holes and a cut out grille section for the orange light on the driver side.
@@jacksprofessionalproductio9403 From people I've talked to, I'm pretty sure the 1A was the car you see driving and/or sitting for most of the movie. Like the main car they used. The others were either for stunts, interiors, or for the extended gunner chair stuff.
@@batarang87 I sure hope so. Although history has shown that Sony aren’t the best caretakers when it comes to their cars. At one point, both the Ecto-1 and 1A were on the verge to be scrapped, but luckily they we’re saved in 2009 for the release of the video game. Ecto-1 got completely restored, but they gave up on restoring 1A. My guess is that after ghostbusters afterlife’s popularity dies down, that car is gonna go right back on the lot and rust away even more. Us ghostheads NEED to save that car, if 2 brothers were able to save one of the Back to the future part 3 Deloreans, then I’m sure a few dedicated and wealthy ghostheads can save the Ecto-1A.
Are you gonna modified/fabricated the drip rails above the doors.? I'm so glad you found this car and are saving it in this way! Can't wait to see it running! I wish so much that I could find a 59 or even a 60 miller meteor I've tried looking bu I'm in the mode that I'll probably never find one that I'll be able to afford. So happy you found this one, no idea how you found it though lol
Here’s a good tip I’ve developed; when looking for these mid 50s and early 60s hearses and ambulances, look for older listings that have the owners phone number in the description. If you’re lucky they may still have the car, but more often than not they had sold it a few years ago. BUT, the owner may be a collector of hearses/ambulances. And I have found 2 guys on the East coast who collect these cars for a living. So, when I’m financially ready I know who and where to go to, to buy my Ecto-1.
