MD, you really shine when you are interacting with others. I love it when you go into the shop to pick your fish and chat. We need more Martin videos please!
QUESTION: Should I go study for my examweek? ANSWER: Yes I should! QUESTION: Did MD just release a new video? ANSWER: Yes he did! QUESTION: What shall I do? ANSWER: Watch the new video of course! LOL
Easilly one of the best display tanks i've ever seen, and with the choice of fish, you know martins a real fishkeeper. I love the single shoal of tetras, definitely creates a vibe.
I've loved this series! It's been so interesting to watch the process of such a big tank, and Martin, Cheryl, and the rest of the shop crew are delightful. :) I love how Martin's passion for different kinds of fish brings out less commonly known species for the home hobbyist. Also, that huge mass of phantoms really gives a great view of their behavior in the wild. What a treat!
Super duper awesome! I can see why Martin is so enamored by those whiptails, they are so very unusual and epic! My two twig whiptails look dead common compared to those chameleons! And it's definitely going to be a hard wait for that amazing tank to fully grow in so we can see it in all its potential splendor, but it will be well worth the wait! Plus plenty of exciting projects lined up it looks like for in the meantime!
I have a green phantom in my 170gal, and she's one of my favorites! Her name is Melon. She took a couple weeks to get comfortable; everything seemed to scare her, and she always hid during feedings. But once she settled in, she became a fiend for zucchini and bug bites. Her coloring is so lovely and bold while still looking "natural" (she matches the plants!). They're one of the only fancy plecos that remains mostly herbivorous into adulthood. Highly recommend them.
"The Black phantom tetra, Hyphessobrycon megalopterus, is actually red in the wild! The reasons for it being bred into black-blue forms (especially the males) after being brought to the hobby are not quite clear, but it may have been to differentiate them from Hyphessobrycon eques, the Serpae tetra. Both species will shoal together in the wild as you can see in this video. " from the video "The Black (read 'Red') phantom tetra in its natural habitat - a video by Tai Strietman." on the channel "Practical Fishkeeping Magazine" was writing this comment then alex made an appearance, suiting haha
I live in Lincolnshire, but I happened to be in Taunton last weekend visiting the wifes relatives. As I was in the area, I popped in yesterday to see the tank. The video doesn't do it justice. Well done, Martin and MD.
I love plecos so can’t wait for the Pleco tank. My Pleco group that I am growing out to hopefully breed are the L134 Leopard Frog plecos. They are supposed to be fairly easy to spawn, but have smaller clutches which is perfect for me. They are about 3.5 to 4 inches when grown and a beautiful black and white or cream striped pattern. I chose these for their small size and because they are very social, mine come out and eat when I feed the Cory’s during the day. They are also out and about during the day exploring. My males hang out near their caves. The females are a bit more shy. You ought to look into them just for your tanks as they are a good alternative to the bristlenose size why, but they don’t hide like the bristlenose. They are also beautiful fish. The down side is they are a bit pricey.
Looks amazing. I love how the fish interact. It's so interesting. So excited that your getting those congo's. Super duper excited about the upcoming pleco tank. That striped pleco is GOLD!. Peace.
Love this! Want to make a 6 foot tank at one point, with bristle, ottos, shrimp and a huge selection of nano fish. These videos are always great for ideas!
I s2g every time I see Congo tetras in the background of a video my eyes turn into hearts 😍 I think this is a sign I need a tank upgrade … The tank looks AMAZING!! Those cats in the sand are SO COOL! I completely understand the hype
The fish shop setup is looking amazing, the fish look great. My only thing is, they're all basically the same grey brownish tone. Definitely needs a colorful feature fish.
Just a suggestion on the future rainbowfish set @the shop...Glossolepis dortiei stay red almost all day. Were as thr Glossolepis incisis, red irani, are usually only red in the a.m.hours later in the day turn brown red. Melanotaenia trifasciata "goyder river" variety, are in my opion one the most striking rainbowfish
Finally… the MD Pleco tank is coming! I’m setting up a planted discus tank at the moment and I’ll be getting four L168 butterfly pleco’s - can’t wait😊😊😊😊
The tank looks really cool better every time I've seen it how long before you get a tank that size 😊 Merry Christmas to you and your family thankyou again for what I've learnt something different Avery time
loved your previous discus set up, these color morphs are just ridiulous, remid me of the gmo tetras... but each ones their taste, and love your work, keepem coming
So pleased to finally see a fish expert discourage MD from tapping the glass of his tanks. The aquascaping in MD’s videos is great but once you understand how fish sense shockwaves it’s easy to see why “don’t bang the glass” has been advice for over 50 years. It’s not like it’s not featured in Finding Nemo for goodness sake 😂.
He discourages it because of kids and the public constantly banging it. My tiny taps on the glass that signify food time is a bit different as proven by the fact that when I do it, they all come flooding forward with no signs of fear or distress.
For the plecs I’d really recommend dwarf snowballs! Can’t remember their L number but they are very small and cute. Would go well with a bigger spotlight species
It's really starting to take shape with some larger fish in. I still think a large group of Columbian Tetras would look really striking in there also. 😁
I hope you get a pair of the jewels from the congo tank. They're beautiful and would make an amazing feature fish or species specific fish for one of the small biotope tanks. They're clearly already breeding, give em a chance to raise a brood.
Of course I end up learning about a fish species native to my area from a video shot in a store on a whole different continent. I'm gonna need to get myself some rainbow shiners. Great colors.
I'm gonna be the one to argue with Martin, 12:56 are Thorichthys maculipinnis not ellioti 🤣😜 and the Brochis are splendens not multi, multiradiatus are mottled and more brown
I love Martins taste in fish very similar to my own. iIt would be good if md done a video on Martins tanks at his home. Oh md get the zebras I keep them and have been lucky enough to breed them such a stunning species
At this moment in time I am actually aquariumless - I've just stripped down my 400L cube which had my custom 3D backgrounds in to make space for a few smaller tanks, only for my wife and I to decide we were going to put our house on the market 😬 so we're likely going to be moving in the next 6-12 months. Once we've moved I'll be getting the tanks set back up again though 😊
You might think a water change is boring, but I would love to see how you setup your water change system and how you do a water change. I am working to simplify (make easier) my water change process for my bigger tanks, and would love to see how you have yours setup. I want to get rid of hauling buckets of water. I think I have an easy way to drain the water from my tank directly to my garden using a couple of light weight hoses and pump, then reverse the process and pump fresh water from a barrel where I condition the water and pump it into my tank to fill it back up. No attachments to my sink like the Python system because I want to treat my water first which is why I want to have water in the barrel to use. I plan on actually using a portable water container that I can store when I don’t need it, and get it out and fill it with water the day before I plan on doing a water change. The container I found is a big bladder that is meant for hauling water and it collapses when not in use. It has a hose attachment to hook to my pumping system. Anyway, I would love to see the details on your setup with explanation of what you did and why.
Whats that tiny wormlike thing at 0:32 reacting to the orange diskus at the lower right picking at it? Did you feed them live food? That could be it I guess

14:10 great perspective how this tank will overgrow, it will look mega natural.
So many great fish. My ultimate big fish are Oscars, but that's not for the near future yet :-)
Video 69 of asking for a tank with some freshwater dolphinfish please.
How do you have enough money for all these tanks and fish?

Martin is adorable. I bet no-one has said that to him before 😂
I really enjoy you doing content at Maidenhead aquatics as I miss that content you used to do when going to buy fish
This tank build, and the addition of fish has been so fun to watch. Can't wait to see what it looks like in a month or two.
Would love to see MD one day do a odd ball tank with mudskippers!
