So I got caught up in the death spiral. She wanted me, my parents were happy...everything was perfect. Perfect for everyone else.

The lyrics sound like someone who lost their first love/best friend.. but moved on in life and is marrying someone else. The wedding just brings memories back of the other person and how she wishes she could have married him before he died.
That's not the point. Thomas Rhett sang about how sad he was that she wasn't marrying him. And obviously in the girls version she regrets not being with him. You cant really make a version where the girl is happy without any regrets because that would be a perfect world which we dont live in. That's just my opinion.

I've been in this situation, Exept This was actually a dating scenario. I loved one boy but another one had a crush on me and asked me out...I thought maybe because he never noticed me that I should say yes to the current boy who asked me out. It was a mistake, because the boy who asked me out and we started dating threatened to kill himself, and the boy I like didn't do anything about it. He thought I was happy and because I had a "boyfriend" he stayed away from me. I always wondered if he felt the same way about me, that i do for him. Probably not. However when I told someone what he said to me they reported him and I finally broke up with him after that the dance came up I decided to go with my friends but I wounded up walking off to my favorite spot in the school only to be surprised by my crush asking for a dance. I guess someone told him how I felt and he felt bad for me, but later on I realized that wasn't the case, he genuinely cared about me, and well I started to date him and it was the happiest relationship I'd ever been in!

I've been in this situation, Exept This was actually a dating scenario. I loved one boy but another one had a crush on me and asked me out...I thought maybe because he never noticed me that I should say yes to the current boy who asked me out. It was a mistake, because the boy who asked me out and we started dating threatened to kill himself, and the boy I like didn't do anything about it. He thought I was happy and because I had a "boyfriend" he stayed away from me. I always wondered if he felt the same way about me, that i do for him. Probably not. However when I told someone what he said to me they reported him and I finally broke up with him after that the dance came up I decided to go with my friends but I wounded up walking off to my favorite spot in the school only to be surprised by my crush asking for a dance. I guess someone told him how I felt and he felt bad for me, but later on I realized that wasn't the case, he genuinely cared about me, and well I started to date him and it was the happiest relationship I'd ever been in!
