    Another wonderful Norfolk Broads film, from you both. So good to see you have such a happy time again, aboard a broads cruiser. Lovely to watch a couple who know how to enjoy this wonderful place and no MOANS, about mooring, hire boaters, speeding, Broads Authority etc.etc... Looking forward to your next trip. Well done Sherz & Linz.

      I do hope it remains. We're in Kent and it is currently 22 degrees. We'll send some your way in 32 days :)
      I do have a question.. We have booked a rowing boat for the weekend. This is for two reasons - 1. Mooring up somewhere next to pubs is not always possible. 2. The sheer fun of it.
      Would you recommend one or not?
      The past two times we've been it's been August/September so VERY busy and long waits to moor but perhaps that won't be the case at this time of year? Also we're doing 4 days :D
      Thanks mate,
      Alex

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  6 лет назад

      Alex101087 The rowboat does come in very handy. For stops like Salhouse or Malthouse broads, it's easier, more peaceful (and in the case of Salhouse, cheaper!) to drop weight in the middle and row across. You can also find little cuts to explore in a dinghy that a cruiser wouldn't fit down! Funnily enough we haven't got a rowboat this year, but only because we're bringing Linz's dog with us this time, and he's just too big and clumsy to get on and off the thing!

      @@djsherz are the mud weights ok to lump in to keep the boat from drifting in middle of salhouse broad. fancy a nigh in the middle of a broad if we cant get moored up.

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  4 года назад +1

      @@steve30b Yep, that's what they're there for. We used to tow a rowing boat as well, so for soemwhere like Ranworth where it's pot luck to get a mooring at the staithe, we'd just drop mudweight in the broad then row across. Unfortunately we had to ditch the rowing boat when we started bringing the dog along, didn't fancy our chances of getting him in and out of the dinghy! It's nice to have a nice peaceful night on the mudweight in the middle of a broad though.

    Has it been a year since your last visit, great film and loved the drone shots.. You are creatures of habit like me, same locations as last year but better weather and a better bbq by looks of it. We are going in August and we do the same things every year as well, nothing changes in Norfolk, that's why we like it. I've been going since I was 8.. That's 40 years!! Keep up the good work and love the new hairstyle!

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  7 лет назад

      Oh yes, there are certain spots that HAVE to be on every year's to-do list! A few new spots this year though, first experience of Wroxham bridge and what lies beyond, and first visit up Dilham way. Next year we're hoping to explore a little further south, make it to Norwich, maybe try Oulton Broad and Beccles as well. But yes, you can guarantee that old favourites like Ranworth and Salhouse will always make the list!

    • @2icelollys1goat
      @2icelollys1goat 7 лет назад +1

      djsherz
      Your low air draft type of boat will likely go under Beccles old bridge, too. The yacht station there, and at Oulton Broad are really nice; and, I think, unspoilt.
      Your video was awesome; and captured the essence of The Broads in all its serene glory.
      I'm now single, and dearly miss the annual trips down from here in Chester my ex and I made.

    Quality videos looking forward to the 2018 edition. What background music do you use for these videos?

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  6 лет назад

      Hi Joey! It varies - pop tracks, karaoke versions, but mostly copyright-free stuff that was originally intended as music beds for radio stations... Got a few custom CDs for amateur video producers as well. Basically, if I like the sound of it, I chuck it in! As long as you're not monetising a youtube video, nobody seems to mind at RUclips Towers about copyright.

    Brilliant video and lovely couple. We will be there next week for our first time on a boat and in the Broads, for four nights. Which Broad do you consider the best for mud-weight and do you just drop the weight off the boat while the engine is still running or switched off? Can you mud-weight anywhere in the Broad (middle or close to shore)?
    Also do you phone the bridge pilot before you arrive at Wroxham or just go there, moor up and try to find the pilot?

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  7 лет назад +2

      We always mudweight on Malthouse and Salhouse broads, then row across to get to dry land. It's best to keep your engine running until you've moored - when you enter the Broad, just drive up to where you want to mudweight, stick it in neutral, lower your weight, then shut off the engine. You can do it anywhere you want within reason, but be mindful of other boats in the area. Don't stop so close to the shore that you'll get in the way of boats entering and leaving the mooring, and remember that depending on the wind, the boat can spin a full 360 degrees around the mudweight, so leave plenty of room all around!
      Regarding Wroxham, we just pulled up at the pilot pickup point, and he jumped on board before we even had time to moor up! July will be a lot busier though, it's probably best to ring ahead just to be sure. You'll need to check the tide times as well - it's not very tidal around Wroxham but the river level does rise and fall a bit during the day, enough to stop some boats from going under at high tide. The pilot will advise you of a good time of day to come back through on your way back.

    • @djsherz
      @djsherz  7 лет назад

      You can do quite a lot actually. Most of the northern end can be done in a week, but if you're planning on crossing Breydon and exploring the south side, you're going to have to pick and choose!

      There are useful guides which offer info about how long it'll take you from one point to another. The maps available, real and virtual, are all clear and excellent. They detail important things like.... where to get water, bridge heights, tide times, pubs, free mooring,
      Shops etc. I'd suggest doing as much pre-planning as possible if you're considering going down to Yarmouth, and crossing Breydon. You'll just be doing a lot of boating (not stopping and visiting places) if you go South whilst down for a week ~ and having your boat yard on the Northern Broads. Good luck whatever you decide!!! 😊
