They might, but some people take those kinds of responsibilities personally. Like no one else can do it as good/diligently as they can. This can be fuelled by loss/trauma, where the individual feels if they watch over their remaining parent carefully and deeply, then whatever caused the demise of the dead parent might not get to the one who's alive. It can be heavy dealing with weight like that.
