Yeah, it makes sense, it is just a lot of rules. I got am email yesterday with them saying please show UNDER your chair and UNDER the Table too. It is some camera wrangling to get all those angles recorded in 1:17 minutes before the recording stops.
I am currently taking Microbiology through portage. I have been studying for module 1 exam but wanted to see what tips you have. Do the review questions go over all info needed for exams?
Oh hiiiii!!! Now I remember how I found your channel - Portage info! You are an absolute goddess! Thank you for posting all this detailed content! Quick question: did any of your Portage courses require papers or just exams, quizzes, etc.? Thanks so much and plz keep up the videos, you two! Hugs to your baby girl. Life with seizures cannot be easy, though you handle it with such grace. 💗
I had practice exams, exams, labs notes, and lab quizzes for portage. No papers to write, but I didn't take any classes besides science classes. Portage is a great program, glad I was able to go through them and my school accepted them!
Hey Abby, I am thinking of taking my pre reqs through portage learning. I took my pre reqs before but they are 10 years old so I have to take all my pre reqs over. My question is, How are the A n P exams are they multiple choise or fill ins? Also, does the professor lets you know what to focus on the exams? And is there a book that they want us to buy to read with the modules?
I actually suggest not buying any books. Everything you need to know is on the website. A&P was some multiple choice and some fill in the blank, but they did not insist on perfect spelling. It is a LOT to learn but they tell you what to know in the practice exam questions, which are open book. You study until you feel confident to take the test. For me, RUclips had a LOT of videos that helped me with all the memorizing and I also used Picmonics some.
There is so much to do for these classes, I did ask why they had a degree by K (Kelvin). I don't think the professors who grade have much say over the content or making it. I am sooooo glad they let us watch labs.... honestly I think I probably learn more, although I A&P exposure to the gross factor maybe would be helpful....but I'm not complaining!
Thank you! How long do you think the class takes to finish even though it’s self paced? Also, when you take the exams do you have to use respondus lockdown browser? Also, can you apply to any school with portage being where the pre reqs are taken?
I finished 4 classes through them in about 3.5 months I think, that was intense. Yes we used respondus lock down. Check with the schools you are interested in. Some may not be okay with a virtual lab for example. However it seems like post covid more schools are okay with it.
I want to take microbiology through them this summer and I’m so nervous because they seem very meticulous on the rules. So you can use notes on the labs but not modules? About how long did it take you to complete the course? I want to do complete it throughout the summer. I hope May- mid August is enough time. I plan to work on it everyday or every few days since you can only take the exams every 48 hours.
You can do it. You can use notes on the module exams. If you study the practice exam that is worth 5 points you will be prepared for the module exam each time.
Whoops CAN'T for exams. But you can do it. They want you to succeed, they make sure you know what to study. Pretty sure you can retake one exam each course if you got less than 70% and want to try again before the final.
How was Chemistry for you chapter 3 is the killer? I know it's been a long time since you took it but I'm hoping to see a light at the end of the tunnel I already have a violation for having a different formula because I watch Tyler on RUclips he makes me understand it better lol.
I'm taking A&P 1/2, ethics, nutrition, and patho. I wont be working and I already graduated with my bachelors. I am absolutely terrified to take these courses. I have been pre-dental my entire life so this is scaring me a little. Any advice? How are the exams for these courses? Professors? Materials? !!!
I'm going to be doing more Portage reviews because my daughter is taking a class with them. They are organized, the program runs smoothly, the professors have good communication. The exams aren't easy but they make sure you know what you need to know so you can study approximately.
Some teachers are more strict on the rules than others. I've had two different professors and the strictest one pointed out I was not following the video recording environment checklist perfectly 2 different times. She didn't think I was cheating (I wasn't) but warned me and clarified what I needed to do to prove I wasn't cheating during future exams. Because of her I show UNDER my desk and chair before starting all my tests. I doubt my other professor cares if I do that, I didn't start til 1/3 of the way through the courses at the stricter professors request.
@@luckynnaturalbeauty6910 They are tough. So, I would use hidden notes the proctor cannot see. I am using this for nursing. This is tougher than nursing.
Thank you so much because I’ve tried Straighterline and didn’t like it! But I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on portage and it turns out to be the same way! I appreciate everything you’ve said!
how many and which prerequisites have you taken? I am considering pursuing a MS program in biochemistry, im unsure which classes i should take, the uni ive contacted has a 1 year program and only requires some prior experience and in depth understanding of the field, i wasnt sure if portage was accredited, some folks expressed very unfavorable opinions which makes me apprehensive.
It is accredited, I believe, but you should check with the school that you're going to go to to see if they accept credits from it. I picked Portage because the nursing school I went to recommended it. I had a good experience with Portage.
hey, I just started taking the chem from portage an I'm about to pull my hair out already on the first module , also worried about the quizzes at the end of each module , any suggestion or tips to pass this class its a lot of info to take in , this is the only class I need to start my 16 month program in January a lot is riding on the class . ... Oh can you use notes on quizzes ?
You can use notes for the labs but not the module exams. Chemistry was the hardest and Module 2 was the hardest Module for me. For memorizing the names of chemical formulas look up Portage Chemistry on Quizlet and people will have made up flashcards for everything you need to have memorized and it will help you practice. For the difficult math problems the organic Chemistry Tutor on RUclips explains stuff really well if you can find a video of him doing a type of problem that is hard. For sure if you can understand HOW you did the practice problems you will be okay on the exams. You don't have to understand Module 2 really well to do good on Module 3, 4, 5 etc. I was taking the EASIEST Chemistry class on Portage. Depending on which Chemistry class you signed up for these tips may not apply as well.
@@NurseAbby thanks so much, it blows my mine an other people when i tell them you cant use notes on the exams 🤦 allmost feels like a set up to failure. Thanks
Would you like share class number on portage which are nursing prerequisite courses?for example:chem103 like this.(sorry i am Chinese my English not very well)
Ask the nursing school you are looking at which classes they want. They all have different classes they will accept. I was allowed to take ANY portage Chemistry I think and I picked the easiest one! If you are really good at Chemistry your school might accept CLEP credit also. That is the cheapest way if you can pass a CLEP test.
Hello!@@NurseAbby I'm thinking of taking Patho through portage now and am wondering if there were lectures for that course? I saw that for other online programs people said they had to do a lot of independent studying (like watching videos on RUclips) to learn, so I'm hoping that wasn't the case for you in path. Thanks!
SCAM took bio 1 witht them gave me a 0/100 on the exam even though no cell phone on web cam(they will say anything they want to fail you on the environmental scan in web cam), i withdraw the class immediately . And they keep interogatting me and use updating their database after i drop the class for what reason? trying to set me up?? stay far away from them.
Sorry you had that experience. I had broken one of their rules accidentally, I forget what maybe I had a paper out that I had online access to during the exam but wasn't supposed to have a physical copy of? Also one teacher wanted a more complete environmental camera sweep than previous classes (under my desk I think). Oh and after one test I think they made me move to a different spot because my computer had duel monitors which is not allowed. Honestly, they were very polite with me gave me warnings and explained what they wanted but no points deducted.
Portage is horrible. There is no real lecture and someone who teaches you. The notes are one or two line explanation . @11:16 That is why on their Facebook page people complained. They have to follow all the rules. I will be sure to do this.

I just finished Organic Chem through them. It was tough but doable, definitely put a TON of time into it.
