Shinji is such a inherently tragic character that denies himself even the chance to have the pity of the audience for the fact of performing such a corrupted and intimal crime as rape, which automatically places him as one of the least liked characters in all of TM. But there is still such tragedy in his character that can only be seen if you see the whole picture. Ultimately, he is just a broken person that felt like everything he desired and mattered to him was stolen from him and given to an "outsider", and his grudge and insecurities were harvested by Zouken so Shinji could become his worst version which ends up with him sexually abusing Sakura and turning into a bitter, egoistical individual, unknowingly becoming just one more piece for Zouken's schemes. Don't get me wrong, he definitely deserves all the hate, is one of those delicate situations where just one action handicaps someone from being worthy of forgiveness or even a second chance. But Shinji is ultimately just an extension of Zouken's evilness. That old man screwed over Kariya, Byakuya, Shinji and Sakura and it only makes you wonder how many other "family members" were reduced to pathetic individuals thanks to Zouken's influence and manipulations.
Shiki is a lowlife, but I feel like he's also the most misunderstood character in Fate. It's almost like Nasu wants to do everything to make us all to hate Shinji 😔
