9 Basic Knots For Outdoor Activities

  • Knowledge of riggings techniques is very important for outdoor activities such as climbing, hiking, fishing, buscrafting, etc. On this occasion I will summarize some basic knots commonly used in outdoor activities:
    1. Square Knot
    Function: to connect 2 ropes of the same size and not slippery.
    2. Clove Hitch
    Function: to tie poles, tie pegs, etc.
    3. Cow Hitch
    Function: for tying stretchers, tying buckets, tying hoops, etc.
    4. Bowline Knot
    Function: to bind animals
    5. Figure 8 Loop Knot
    Function: for tying the ends of the rope, for securing the rope, the rope for creeping.
    6. Round Turn + Two Half Hitch Knot
    Function: to tie ropes to objects, mooring boats.
    7. Taut-Line Hitch
    Function: to tie the rope to the tree, if the rope is pulled then the bond gets tighter.
    8. Tumble Hitch Knot
    Function: tie the rope to the tree temporarily, can be removed easily.
