It really works, I’ve been doing it for 10 years.
I use a potato fork to loosen the soil if needed. I don’t turn it, I just put the fork in and slightly lift. I did that for 5-6 years before planting.
I do the potato’s the same way and I’m in zone 6b. I dig my first potato’s and reseed in mid summer and get another batch and reseed for spring.
