    Several studies have been conducted on centenarians (people who reach 100 years or more) and how they live so long... one of the common threads is they all understand the importance of continually learning. Never stop learning... this is so much more important than any entertainment could ever be.
    This year, I intend to work more on self sufficiency in regard to food for my family- gardening, hunting, fishing, etc. Also food preservation and storage. I would also like to work on paleo skills- flint knapping, skin and leather sewing, earth shelters
    (sub-terranian), and primitive archery. Lots to do! Peace to you from Alaska. ~Tim

    The challenge I took since a while is to become better in helping people. I first started by never say no to someone who ask for a help. Now I'm trying to be more active, offering help when I see it would be useful, without waiting for that person to ask. To help people is often very difficult because asking for a help is often very difficult. You are as always inspiring, thanks for sharing!

      About 20 years ago, two female employees at the grocery store - where I shopped - approached me - cornered me - to ask about my superbness ... apparently the two of them had a conversation about it and had decided to ask me ... I answered their question which was about my "education" ... They looked at one another like, " see ... we were right ..." Then they went back to work.
      A long series of people have approached me - before and after that - to express their awareness of me. I keep a list of the comments and compliments people have said - it helps drown out comments from the haters that fail to notice magnificence when they see it.

    one of the simplest things I've ever heard Alan Watts say is "money doesn't buy happiness, skills do." our abilities and knowledge enable us to deal with issues as they arise. but if you're stuck with having to buy your way out of everything, you miss out on pretty much all of what comes with solving a problem for yourself; the satisfaction of fixing something, the engagement of learning about something new so you can fix it in the first place, and the calm you get from knowing that if it ever breaks again, you'll be able to fix it are all essential to a being calmer problem solver. as you always teach, mindset can make any "problem" fun, but skills do help alot lol :)

    • @Bageldodes
      @Bageldodes 8 месяцев назад +1

      one thing id say differently is it helps with more than just problem solving and challenges, skills are essential to just living a calmer life.

    • @ReWildUniversity
      @ReWildUniversity  8 месяцев назад

      Beautiful! Big fan of Watts, but hadn't yet heard this words about skills. I love that philosophy! There truly is a great feeling when you do something yourself and gain a new skill =)

    • @Bageldodes
      @Bageldodes 8 месяцев назад

      Indeed. That's mostly his point I think. The fulfilment being skilled and having skills brings into our lives. But I have noticed the calm it brings as well.
      A great example in my life came from watching your video on helping people when their minds are hurting them. There's a lot of anxiety amongst my loved ones and it has always been so difficult to understand how to help them. After watching that video it was like aha! Skill unlocked! Attaining that skill brought so much calm and reassurance that everything's going to be ok in my life. Thanks for that ❤

    Superheroes are fools who were lucky not to die. That said Kenton what I heard was you telling us to live rather than exist, to adapt rather than experience. I try to find one thing per day to improve the quality of my life and those around me. Can be small or large!
    In the prepper world the reality is people do not do the work to learn the skills but sit and watch videos! Many people I know never read books. 📚 It’s sad.
    I’d say pick things you enjoy and have a hero who is a normal human being not a Hollywood fake 😂 but whatever floats your boat

  • @johnpowell8568
    @johnpowell8568 8 месяцев назад +1

    Very nice and succinct, my friend. Was despairing of your ever making anything but podcasts again!
    Are you once again answering my day to day thoughts? Gotta wonder, because I'm working to do just as you are speaking of. That is, 'trading' or eliminating (hopefully permanently!) my old addictive browsing for more positive and educational material that leaves me uplifted rather than feeling as though I'd been worked over by psychic vampires.
    So far, so good, right? correct. But, ah, there IS this one TEENY TINY EENCIE BEANCIE LITTLE problem. I start winning and feeling great, and this insidious 'thing' comes over me and makes me feel like I can cheat in an unrelated area. For me it usually takes the form of food. This time it was this cool little bar and grill called Froggy's, where families are welcome. They have these incredible textured VEGAN fries, and even though several notches above fast food fries, are still rather more than my ever more sensitive body-mind-complex can now safely handle. Aw shucks! Soo, yesterday was a Froggy fry glut, with (more bad news for me) BOTH ketchup and mustard. What a feast! What a price to pay later!
    Sooo, I'm coming into ever more starkly clear awareness of my 'choice' as you also call it, because in supreme essence, that is what it always comes down to, once we gain a certain threshold of personal growth and awareness. Will I CHOOSE to screw myself in a perceived short term (so called) benefit and pay the price I know shall follow, or do the right thing?
    The last alcohol I drank was April 5th 2001. The last chocolate/coffee was some time in late 2002. Quitting and staying quit is actually harder with me for chocolate since in my family chocolate was the drug of choice. But I've persevered, and reap continued benefits, probably because I'm too scared to wake up (AGAIN!) knowing I've seriously jeopardized my well being. But French fries with ketchup and mustard?!?! Seriously? A 'sin'? For me, yes. And I surely feel cheated, that is until I do some educational youtubing and take yet another reality check perusal of what MOST of the REST of this beleaguered planetary population endures and has endured ALL OF MY LIFE, while us privileged folks do not have to worry about such 'over there somewhere' issues as severe famine and lack of suck seemingly trivial matters as clean water. I am of course thinking of Gaza, but countless other countries face this also.
    Sooo, In not going to my fave porn sites and feeling vampired afterwords, not to mention cheapened, and searching for those elusive scraps of real reporting on world events, I'm not only upgrading my sense of spirit, but coldly forcing myself to QUIT the self pity and be super glad I have so many awesome healthy food choices that will make me not only not wake up feeling hung over, but increase those qualities I'm supposed to be striving for. Whew!
    Funny how solving one problem Holistically solves two or more problems peripherally. Problems we might not even be very aware of. Gotta love it. Gotta stay in touch with that, because I do not enjoy watching my educational browsing AND knowing I'm cheating myself and every living thing on this planet by cheating, AND feeling sorry for myself over French fries, ketchup and mustard. Really! But it almost seems as though the tests remain the same as per my level, but the costs get a little higher each time I take a dive. Weird, huh? Sort of like some Cosmic agency/entity is saying; "Come' on John! I THOUGHT you were serious about this stuff!? Do you REALLY need another spanking? Like dude, get it straight or else..."
    Yeah, there are definitely a vast and complex set of interlocking realities out there, but, as we both know so well by now, it's ALL about choice, and making the right choice with zero room for excuses. Also ironic how making those correct choices in the longer term are no loss at all! That seriously hard-to-grasp thingy about every loss hiding a gain. 'Losing' French fries ketchup and mustard, and gaining clarity and digestive health. 'Losing' my porn harem and re-gaining a sense that it never actually made me happy, and that it was all about a much larger and extremely insidious view of sex and what women are truly all about. Almost makes me (horror of horrors!) sound vaguely like some sort of TV evangelist, but in a very context limited sort of way of course!
    Anywayz, you take good care of your self, your family, and all that is entrusted to your care.
    Love and Respects, John

    • @ReWildUniversity
      @ReWildUniversity  8 месяцев назад

      You said -- "Funny how solving one problem Holistically solves two or more problems peripherally." An important truth that, if we realized it more often, might give us more strength in moving forward in more positive directions. And gratitude -- you spoke of it without using the word, I believe. Realizing how privileged we are (and most of us, if we look deeply enough, can find some area in which we have been especially gifted) and then honoring our situation by "being our best". But as always, you acknowledge that it isn't easy -- it's a trap for us to fall into feeling like we're doing things right while everyone around us are just idiots who have no discipline or insight at all. If we acknowledge our own failures, we can better have compassion for those around us who are trying, but are facing the so-powerful addictions that our culture so gleefully manufactures.
      Thank you =)

    • @johnpowell8568
      @johnpowell8568 8 месяцев назад

      A great point. The 'gleeful' manufacture of addictions. When you speak of mindfulness, to me it is less about outward perception, though important, and more about REMEMBERING the 'why' of 'why not do a certain thing, including wrong/toxic thinking'. It scares me to think just how much damage is/can be done by such toxic thoughts, especially with Little Forest around and 'vibing-in' with whatever is my state of mind/emotions. Sometimes that's the only reason I even bother making an effort at 'clean-up'. Seeing his own efforts to overcome things, and realizing that I have some responsibility to be 'there' for him not only physically, but with my 'full-mind'! Ya see, Forest is not my son, but for having been with Ana through every phase of his life till now, at five years, it is impossible for he and I to not have a deep tie that is very close, and therefore open to incredible amounts of psychic transfer/empathy. @@ReWildUniversity
      "It is a very poor sort of memory that only works backwards". It is an even worse one that refuses to remember that which already happened via bad choices, and does not make every effort to avoid such in future. 'mindful living'.
      As I go through experiences I'd long ago ignored (but DID remember others talking about) I'm reawakening to aspects of life that are sooo relevant. Like you just said, it's too easy to write others off as idiots, while thinking ourselves so mighty fine, only to suddenly realize that THEY went through things CONSCIOUSLY years or even decades ago that WE were clueless idiots about. Looking at myself NOW, and remembering some of the disgusted looks some of those people gave me THEN. Such is the reality, and part of the journey is the ability to keep it 'in mind'!!
      One last thingy concerning all this; As I go, I find myself experiencing two levels. One is the day to day outlook, and the other is probably your own experience. That 'mindful' sense that if we nurture it, will always TRY to keep us not only from harm, but automatically do it in such a way as to avoid harming others, even though our culture/society tries to deny that it is even possible, and LOVES to see us ignore that inner sense of Right thinking/choosing.
      Love ya, Bro.....
