    When I was growing up, we played this game with each other.
    We called it, "Slap Boxing."

    I practice Kali and have practice a bit of boxing and muay thai, and I want to say that the way boxers guard with their arms is almost sticking to their body, with the only time in the air is when they strike. I've sparred quite a bit in striking and this drill is usefull if the guard is not as tight. But this shouldn't be used as a full-proof strategy in empty hand combat. Different opponents need different strategies, especially if they have a different skill level than what you're used to. If you decide to practice this drill, please take caution of developing false sense of confidence, and make sure to do light sparring so as to test the techniques you've developed from the drill. Respect to Guro Vargas and practitioners of any art. Train well.

      Nothing is a cure all application. This is, as explained, a drill... to build skills as many other drills do.

    Good drills. I just subscribed to your channel. I know you’re showing kids a demo but it’d be cool if you busted out some knife work and how those empty hand drills translate to knife drills.

    This drill is really good, BTW. A nice addition to most Kali empty hand drills, which do not properly teach fighting at boxing range.

      Again you haven't done your homework before commenting. The drills are directly from Kali, Arnis, Escrima namely (American Modern Arnis).

    its a filipino martial art...i dont think you should use the word sifu to address the teacher...coz we're not chinese...guro is enough...the chinese has nothing to do with our martial arts

    • @petervargas2279
      @petervargas2279  5 лет назад +10

      That is correct. I'm a Sifu in the Chinese style of Closed Crane Kung Fu and a Guro in the Filipino Styles that I teach.

    American Modern Arnis? Sifu? When was America discovered Arnis and does Arnis originated from China so you could use Sifu?

    • @petervargas2279

      Kali, Arnis, Escrima are the three generic names for the martial arts indigenous to the Philippines.

    Any one teaching you to stand and square off with some while you wait for them to throw a punch is bs. Not the kali system I’ve learned

    I’m a fan and a practitioner of the art and he you are fantastic! One thing that doesn’t rhyme right is your so called title, Sifu guro? Jeez if you want to be respectfully called the top instructor, then call yourself a guro or a sifu and not both as the meaning of both words is teacher! Sifu for chinese and guro for Filipino
