My favorite Hammer Dracula movie. Martita Hunt is wonderful as always. She is a treasure, appearing in dozens and dozens of great movies. Welcome back, Steve and Johnny.
It wouldn't be a complete Halloween without a review from Steve. What a real treat (pun intended) with Steve's great impressions. This was one of my favorite Hammer films. I hope Steve and Johnny, you and your crew have a Happy Halloween and thanks again.
It's always a special Halloween treat when a movie retrospective from Steve appears. You're so right about that amazing maniacal laughter in this film; it is second only to the infamous scene from The Mummy in which the gentlemen witnesses the monster walking away, and the man starts a frightful fit that guarantees he'll spend a _lot_ of time weaving baskets at some nice institute that has tranquil gardens/grounds (and plenty of thorazine). 😄 Thanks for this video-- perfect fare for autumn. Glad you chose to spotlight a Hammer film, and this is a particular favorite of mine from their movies. Have a marvelous Halloween. For me, this holiday isn't just one day-- it's all year long. Give me ghastly and macabre stuff each and every day.
I'm so glad you like it! I agree with you about that scene at the begining of "The Mummy", his reaction upon seeing Karloff as the Mummy, is the scariest thing in the movie. Amazing performance. His laugh has stayed with me to this day. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Halloween! Best Steve

I remember this being on Chiller Theater on Channel 11 WPIX out of New York City during the 70s on Saturdays. Creature Feature was another show also on Saturdays on WNEW Channel 5 New York City. Saturdays were horror, sci-fi days. Growing up in Belleville NJ, we were only about 15 or 20 miles from NYC so we got all the broadcast TV out of that city, it was great! In subject matter, the Brits were ahead of us in a lot of ways. Anyway, another great review Steve, I never miss a video.
We had similar weekend horror shows where I grew up near Syracuse, New York. Fabulous. The one on Friday night would show Hammer Films and the cheezy ones from American International and the one on Saturday aftrenoons specilaized in The Universal monster classics. I loved 'em both! Happy Halloween! Steve
You excelled yourself in this one Steve. You are the real star. I found myself coming back to your shows and now I'm addicted. Thanks. So refreshing to have you talking about the best movies. It's like they are showing today and boy do we need them.
Oh, thank you. I hope you subscribe. Sorry if I asked you this already, but you seem to be enjoying them and I would love to have you permenently on board. Much appreciated! Steve
Steve, another GREAT selection. Hammer always has the most interesting movies... a staple of my adolescence. As much as I love Christopher Lee, David Peel was an amazing choice. Your assessment Martita Hunt's nose was perfect. LOL Thanks for making my day. I'm re-watching tonight. Thank goodness my streaming service has it in their library. As always, you job my memory to all the great titles. Thanks, Steve!
I'm so glad! I love this one. David Peel sounds . looks and reminds me of my Gay hairdresser back in the '70's. So, of course, I love him. LOL! Happy Halloween and thanks for watching! Best; Steve
Come Halloween time, I've been hoping for years that Steve would do a Val Lewton horror film, especially The Cat People. Those films had real class. Maybe one day.
And may I say that your impressions, no matter which review you are doing, are the very best parts of your videos!! I find myself replaying many of them every so often!
Awwwww, thanks, Jer. However, I often think the models for those impressions, though gone now, are waiting for me somewhere in "The Great Bryond "with ax in hand. LOL! Steve
So happy that you’re back Steve, and with a wonderful technicolor Hammer Films gem for Halloween 🎃! This is one of my favorites from that great horror film company, and your Gina is a scream! No trick here, your reviews are always a treat❤
Well gosh, golly, geeze, Steve! Another dark treasure revealed for the season. Halloween wouldn't be the same without your wonderfully spooky reviews! Happy Happy!
I just watched this two weeks ago and that was WONDERFUL! The only thing that could compete is the GREAT STEVE HAYES reviewing it. I'm giddy with delight. Happy Halloween TOQ and of course, Johnny. Love you both.
You made me laugh so much I choked! The maniacal laughter, the hissing, and most of all the flapping wings of the bats! You're so right that British vampire films relied totally on brilliant character actors. Martita Hunt and her nose had starred in all the 1940s classics like "The Wicked Lady" and "The Man in Grey" before "Great Expectations", and went on to "Anastasia" and this - never stopped working. And Peter Cushing had such range as an actor. Long before starring in this and other horrors, he'd been in "1984" on British television, which was so controversial questions were asked in Parliament, and he and Ann Todd were delicious as lovers, again on TV back in the 'fifties. I adore this, and will go away and try to stop laughing. Best wishes, Alida
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ Dear Steve, I remembered too late that the television play Peter Cushing and Ann Todd were in was "Tovarich" - beautiful and romantic. But "No Room at the Inn" is one of the most terrifying films ever made!
I love Hammer films. As you pointed out the productions values are first class. The actors are the best. I think David Peel gives a very sympathetic performance and has the perfect youthful look. The films of Hammer are filled with personal touches. The Blu ray discs are outstanding too. Thank you so much for this great review. I have so many favorites from this collection. And to sum it up many of these films are actually believable.. Best Wishes, Looking forward to you next review.
I'm so glad you liked i! I love many of the Hammer Films, except when they get a bit too gory. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Hallowen! Best; Steve
This was the first vampire movie I ever saw (on tv on a rainy Saturday afternoon), and after a recent viewing I was impressed how well it holds up! Hammer did great work. Great review! You should tour with a movie review show.
Steve...where have you been?!! : ) Thanks for another great review. The Hammer Studios horror films really are the best, aren't they? The little TV station back home used to show them on the Late Show on Saturday nights (when they used to do that sort of thing). : ) My sister and I would wait up to see them and cringe in terror every week they were on. Thanks for reminding me...they are fun memories. : ) Hope you and Johnny had a great summer!
We had a lovely summer. Hope you did as well. These films were in the theatres when I was growing up, usualyy at the drive-in and on double bills...double the pleasure. They were so beatifully gory with the color. I would cringe and couldn't stop watching. Still can't. Happy Halloween and thanks for watching! Steve
Blessed Samhain/Happy Halloween Steve & Johnny!!! 🎃 I love when you review horror and creature features. Are you aware that Robert Eggers is finally remaking Nosferatu with his trademark/The Lighthouse old camera with Bill Skarsgård? Thanks for the suggestion as usual.
DAHHHHLING!! I absolutely adore you, you're my greatest guilty pleasure! Aren't those old Hammer films a hoot? I've made that scream my ring tone. And GEEZ!! Where'd they get all that hair product up there?!? There's a clip from this film in 'Matrix Reloaded' (when Persephone shoots the sexy wolf boys) - I've always wondered which Hammer it was! Thanks for another great revue, Hon. To die for!
Thanks for watching! I know, all the vampires are impeccably coiffed! Hilarious! And the Baron looks and sounds exactly like my gay hairdresser from the '70's. I love this film! Happy Halloween! Steve
Steve, you made the whole film come to life!! Excellent and spooky! My favorite was the American Bride of Dracula with the lesbian theme. Hammer films were the best of the genre.
Yes, like most Brit productions, they don't pay the huge saleries to the actors, so the mony goes into the production. Thanks for watching! Best; Steve
I love Hammer Horror Studios films! They had a great repertoire of character actors- Cushing, Lee, Oliver Reed, Michael Gough, Andre Morell, Alec McCowen, Charles Gray, David Prowse, and, of course, Ingrid Pitt! Are you going to do The Innocents (1961) soon? I love this film and would love to hear your commentary on it.
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ You left out Michael Ripper one of my favourite actors of all time he made more Hammer films than anyone else starting around 1948 with A Case For P.C.49

Oh Mike, thanks so much! I'm so glad you're on board for the future episodes and my very best to you and all my friends in the UK! Hooray! Happy Halloween! Steve
Steve, your review actually prompted me to watch this film, and your impersonations of the cast of characters were spot on and hysterical! Please do more horror pictures..
In the summer of 1963 when I was 7 years old, my mom and I flew down to Durango, Durango, Mexico to visit my grandmother and my cousins. A nextdoor neighbor of my grandmother's who had her adult kids still living with her, one of them took me to a movie theater to see a couple of movies (still back in the day double features) and I saw 'The Brides of Dracula'. I tell you, that movie scared the hell of out me. Especially the gal who became a vampire and the old housekeeper was laughing like a lunatic when the vampire gal's hand was coming up from the ground. Mr. Steve Hayes, I do wish you showed the end of this movie, that was the best part.
I don't because I want to leave a few surprises and lure people to look up the film and watch it for themeselves. So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching. Best; Steve
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ Understandable. Here's another film that would be interesting for you to do a take on, even though it is not a Hammer Horror Film Production (an English film), 1958 "Blood of the Vampire". Another film that I saw in 1963 at a theater in Durango, Durango, Mexico that summer. It is on RUclips. Not too scary, but still a very good one with a very good storyline. And in colour of course.
Uuuoooooohhhhhh, HH moves scare the bejesus outta me!!!! Lol, I’m sure young folk would laugh but these old horror movies were terrifying in their time. Many thanks for another brilliant review xxxx
Steve, This is Halloween! I too am an anglo-file and love all of these Hammer films! Great fun, gory, and always sexy, LOL! I also love the same as this 1960s genre, Die, Die, Die My Darling the last film of Tallulah Bankhead and Donald Sutherland in one of his first film roles. I would LOVE to see your impression of her. Also, hoping over time you will do a few reviews of the British new-wave, kitchen sink dramas as well. Season's screaming Steve and Johnny, your both the best!
At some point, I'm planning on doing " A Taste Of Honey" and '"Lonliness Of A Long Distance Runner" . Thanks for the reminder. I also want to do some of the Gainsborough melodramas, as well as a few more by The Archers. So many choices on all frons! Happy Halloween and thanks for watching! Happy Halloween Steve
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ Great choices and love both of these films! A Taste Of Honey was so ahead of its time and dealt with so many social issues that we are still facing! To think that A Taste of Honey was written by a then 18-year girl. I still love Rita Tushingham with those wide expressive eyes and she was the "IT" girl of these kitchen sink dramas even though that trend did not last very long. You are such a wonderful asset to your youtube family, cheers!
Steve, this was terrific!! You are so right about this movie, and especially about Andree Melly. She played a vampire this one and only time, but she is one of the most enduring images from horror films of the 1960's. She compares favorably to the very impressive and prolific Barbara Steele (who never wore fangs like the Hammer girls did). I love your imitations of all the characters. Were you temporarily possessed by the spirit of Freda Jackson?
Steve this is great and also one of my favorite Hammer films. Martita Hunt’s reluctant vampire is fabulous. Next year, I request Karloff in The Body Snatcher!
One of the quirkiest and atmospheric Hammer films...under rated in my opinion..Hysterical review there Steve, you make a great screaming lady in waiting..waiting for what? I do not know! lol Terrific film review. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Waiting for Thorazine mostl likely! LOL! Thanks for watching and I agree, this one is underrated and simply wonderful! Always nice to hear from you, My Friend. Happy Halloween! Steve
The British did gothic horror so well and with less resources than Hollywood, the actors were so invested and believable, what more do you want ? Another fun review.
Great review of my favorite Hammer vampire movie. Another Hammer production you should consider for a future episode is "The Gorgon", a delightfully creepy Terence Fisher-directed film. It stars Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Barbara Shelley (who has hair to die for!).
Bravo Steve, yet another great suggestion!! So FUNNY too, lol. I've not seen this in decades (you ain't the ONLY old queen, Honey)......... I'm gonna resurrect this one SOON!! Cheers!!!

Wow! the last time I saw that film I don’t think I’d reached my 20s. I never worried that a Hammer film would be a dud. They had their formula down pat. The cinematography, the colour, the acting, always hit the mark. I thought casting a young blond angel as the vampire was a genius move. It magnified the impact that this horrifying monster was. As usual I love all the background info you supply. And your enthusiasm is infectious. Have you ever looked at the work of Britain’s and Italy’s Queen of Horror Barbara Steele? She was amazing, although strangely I don’t think she ever worked in a Hammer picture.
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ ah yes the actress who played Gina, the sweet girl who would become the vampire in The Brides of Dracula who said to the heroine ‘I want to kiss you.’ BTW did you ever read the book that was published a few years ago that has tangential ties to Jason and the Argonauts? The author, classical scholar Madeline Miller, wrote a novel centred around the witch Circe, who was banished to the Island that Odysseus and his men traveled to on their way back to his homeland from his adventures in the Odyssey. The island where they met the exiled Circe who turned them all into pigs. She seems a fairly minor character among the myths, until you discover her father was the sun god Helios (son of the Titan Hyperion) who drove the sun across the sky every day. Her younger brother Aeetes, was the King of Colchis and father of Medea. He owned the Golden Fleece Jason had come to capture. Aeetes and Circe’s mother was Perseis, a sea nymph and daughter of the former sea god and Titan Oceanus and his sister Titan Tethys. Miller beautifully weaves all these myths and legends together in a wonderfully relatable style that brings all the characters to life. But years before her encounter with Odysseus and his men, she went to Crete at her sister’s request to help her sister (who was married to the King of Crete) give birth to the Minotaur. She had conceived by mating with the bull in the Labryinth. Even though the novel is ostensibly about Circe, I learned loads more about the interrelationships between various gods, Titans and Olympians and major myths involving Prometheus, Icarus, the Minotaur, Odysseus, and the myth of the Greek settler founders of Rome. It’s the best thing involving the Greek myths I’ve read in years. Stephen Fry’s books on Greek Myths are also great but they’re more about updating the existing works for more modern audiences. I like Miller’s work written in the format of a novel.
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ you’re being too kind. Believe me I just scratched the surface of a fantastic book (no you’re not going to discover I’m Madeline Miller’s publicity agent). And having made that claim I’m going to add, she had another book published a couple of years before Circe, that basically covered the story of Achilles and his role in the Trojan war, Song for Achilles, which was also wildly praised🙂 and very good, I agree, but not quite as good as Circe.

Steve
Happy Hallowe'en Steve and Johnny! 🎃
You too! Have a wonderful time! Steve & Johnny
Steve
Steve, I needed this tonight. You're wonderful. October's been one of those months so far. You've made it better. You are a real sweetheart ❤!
You're a sweetheart for watching and for letting me know how much you enjoy it! Happy Halloween! Best; Steve
They are definitely on my "To Do" list. Thanks for the reminder and Happy Halloween! Steve
LOL! Steve
Martita Hunt is one of my favorites, esp'ly in Anastasia. What a hoot!
I love her in everything! So austere and suspicious. What a presence! Thanks for watching! Steve
So happy that you’re back Steve, and with a wonderful technicolor Hammer Films gem for Halloween 🎃! This is one of my favorites from that great horror film company, and your Gina is a scream! No trick here, your reviews are always a treat❤
Oh, may thanks. I LOVE Andree Melly ( Gina), those wild , hungry eyes. So creepy! Happy Halloween! Steve
Other than subscribing, I've never really told you how much I enjoy these programs. Thank you, fellas, for all these delights!
Well, thank you for watching and taking the time to let us know. It means a great deal! Best Wishes & Happy Summer! Steve
Well gosh, golly, geeze, Steve! Another dark treasure revealed for the season. Halloween wouldn't be the same without your wonderfully spooky reviews! Happy Happy!
Thanks, Doll! Happy Halloween! Steve
I would love to have your manic laughter as a ringtone!
For about five minutes, I suspect! LOL! Thanks for watching! Steve
I just watched this two weeks ago and that was WONDERFUL! The only thing that could compete is the GREAT STEVE HAYES reviewing it. I'm giddy with delight. Happy Halloween TOQ and of course, Johnny. Love you both.
Love you too and thanks so much for watching! Happy Halloween! Best Wishes; Steve & Johnny
OH MY GAWD....you're fricken hilarious. Each one of these reviews just keeps me laughing. Well done!
Thanks, Buddy! Much appreciated! Happy Halloween Steve
I knew a Steve Hayes review was due and the fact that it's a horror film makes it even more worth waiting for (if that were humanly possible).
You are too kind. Thanks you so much and have a wonderful Halloween! Steve
Thank you Steve and Johnny, fab review! Great recreation of the scenes too!!!
Thanks, Buddy! I so appreciate it! Happy Halloween! Steve
And wonderful Freda Jackson. The scariest of the scary! Also in " Great Exopectations" and marvelous in " No Room at the Inn".
You are too kind. Thanks so much for watching and Happy Halloween! Best; Steve
Steve...where have you been?!! : )
Thanks for another great review. : )
Hope you and Johnny had a great summer!
That should be pretty creepy! He's such a visualist! Amazing director! Happy halloween! Steve
Love Steve’s reviews - every one!
Thanks so much! Steve
At the 3:00 Mark you gave me pure Norman Bates ! Thank You !
Well, I had encouragem, ent from " Mother". LOL!
Steve
I love Hammer horror movies! I haven't seen this one, but will look it up tonight. Thanks, guys and Happy Halloween! 🎃
You'll love it! Happy Halloween to you too! Best; Steve
Happy Halloween Steve and Johnny! Enjoyed this review SO MUCH, Steve. A classic!
So glad you liked it! Happy Halloween to you too and thanks for watching! Best; Steve
Best; Steve
Her maniacal laugh is diabolically divine!!! 🩸🩸🩸
That's alotta aliteration and I totally agree. OXOX
Love Hammer movies!! Always a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon watching awesome B movies.
Absolutely! Pass the popcorn! Happy Halloween! Steve
And beautiful redheaded Hazel Court! Hooray for hammer!
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ You left out Michael Ripper one of my favourite actors of all time he made more Hammer films than anyone else starting around 1948 with A Case For P.C.49

All your review are brilliant, but this one has to be the most delightful I've seen yet!
I'm very partial to it. My all-time favorite vampire movie.
Steve, your review actually prompted me to watch this film, and your impersonations of the cast of characters were spot on and hysterical! Please do more horror pictures..
I promise! Thanks for watching! Steve
Martita Hunt, how wonderful. She was in the Unsinkable Molly Brown. Another great review.
Thanks Paul, much appreciated! I love her too! Happy Halloween! Steve
I live for Hammer films so stately so refined on such budgets they were great films !
I agree and this one ois my personal favorite! Viva Martira Hunt, Freda Jackson and especially Andree Melly. The scariest vampire from my youth.
you're brilliant. I love your impersonations. The laugh had me in stitches.

Another “ Monumental Pictures” review. You are amazing! Love the lesson on maniacal laughter.
You should know about maniacal laughter, you heard alot of it coming from the apartment below for a number years! LOL! I WANT TO SEE YOU!!!
@@undergroundwarrior70 I'll make a note of it! Thanks!

They scared me as well. Whcihc I why I love them. Thanks; Steve
@@worldgrill Thank you Robert, much appreciated! Steve
I fear that I was...momentarily! After I shot this, my throat was sore for awhile. I don' know how she did it! Amazing! Steve
Looking lovely as always boys!!

Wow! the last time I saw that film I don’t think I’d reached my 20s.
I like her alot. Andree Melly resembles her.
@@STEVEHAYESTOQ ah yes the actress who played Gina, the sweet girl who would become the vampire in The Brides of Dracula who said to the heroine ‘I want to kiss you.’
BTW did you ever read the book that was published a few years ago that has tangential ties to Jason and the Argonauts?
@@alexrafe2590 Now I know the story! You tell it better than anyone...except maybe Ray Harryhausen in the movies! Happy Holidays! Steve
