How to make Old Concrete look Brand New! (DIY Concrete Resurfacing)

- Опубликовано: 28 сен 2024
- This video will show you How to Resurface Concrete Steps with Newcrete Concrete Resurfacer product. If you have an old concrete slab or concrete steps, chances are that it looks old, cracked, and worn out. Fortunately, concrete resurfacing products such as Newcrete make it easy to give old concrete a fresh, new look.
To resurface concrete or concrete steps with Newcrete, you will need the following tools and materials 🛠🧰:
- Concrete resurfacing product: www.ctscement....
- Concrete Broom: amzn.to/3TWCseh
- Concrete Finishing Trowel: amzn.to/3i6bHai
- Drill with Mixer Attachment: amzn.to/3EtTYRD
- Sponges (optional): amzn.to/3UgZYmJ
- Concrete dye (optional): amzn.to/3VgF2wO
To resurface concrete or concrete steps with Newcrete, you will want to follow these general steps:
1. Clean the Existing Concrete Surface.
Before you can resurface concrete, you need to ensure that the existing concrete surface is clean. A “clean” concrete surface is one that is free of any dirt, debris, paint.
2. Select the Right Concrete Resurfacing Product for Your Application.
I recommend the Rapid Set Newcrete Product.
3. Mix up the Concrete Resurfacing Product According to the Manufacturer’s Recommendations.
Typically, concrete resurfacing product will be a “pancake batter” consistency once it is mixed up.
4. Moisten the Existing Concrete Surface Prior to Application of the Resurfacing Product.
Before you apply the mixed up concrete resurfacing product, it is recommened that you moisten the existing concrete surface.
5. Apply the Concrete Resurfacing Concrete to the Application Area.
To apply the concrete resurfacing product to your existing concrete, it is recommended that you dump out small amounts of the product and the spread it out evenly with a hand trowel.
6. Apply texture to the concrete surface using a “Broom Finish”.
After applying the concrete resurfacing product to your existing concrete and smoothing it out evenly with a hand trowel, it is generally recommended that you apply a “broom finish” to the concrete surface.
A broom finish provides an aesthetic textured surface that hides any imperfections in the concrete.
7. Allow the Concrete Resurfacing Product to Fully Cure.
After applying your concrete resurfacing product and applying a broom finish (if desired), simply allow the concrete resurfacing product to cure according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Typically, these products cure rapidly and are ready for foot traffic in as little as 2-4 hours.
8. Apply a Concrete Sealer (if desired).
Although a concrete sealer is not required, it can provide a few notable benefits such as:
- A sealer will help to prevent staining of the concrete surface and will help to prevent water discoloration.
- A sealer can “tint” the surface of the concrete - giving it a darker look.
To apply sealer to concrete, I recommend that you roll the product onto the concrete surface using a foam roller. However, you can also apply sealer using a sprayer.

The fact he showed the finish product for almost 0.5 seconds tells us it was a masterpiece 😂😂😂
😂😂😂 it looked better b4
exactly! 40k upvotes on this video too...people are such idiots.
He also made sure it wad wet.
And he only showed it up close lol
It’s a technique editors do to make you watch the video again. That slight detail in the edit probably got the video 20x more views. People rewatch because they missed the final product raising the viewer attention statistics over %200 for that one viewer. In return the video is going to be boasted in the algorithm.
Everything is done in a specific way for a reason…
As he was troweling I kept wondering how he was going to make that look nice. And it never happened, and life made sense again
Hahhaha
🤣 yeah first thing I thought how do I make concrete look brand new? Hmmm ohh yeah replace it 😆
@@joebly5641I mean you can but there are better and proper ways to do it without tearing it up for little projects like this. He was halfway there with the clean up of it but completely messed it up after that. If you don't know how to work with concrete, your work after will be the tell.
@@RyanYoxo I was afraid that I was going to just mess up something already messed up.
😂😂😂
Still looks like crap
no activator
He zoomed in so much we dident see the result
@@ale189251
I'm sure, like everyone else, he'll learn! 😅
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bruh for real 😂. Every Mexican in the chat gave it a thumbs down
Here's a tip, Its always a good idea to add concrete bonding "glue" whenever your doing any additions to exciting concrete or concrete repairs.
Weldcrete!
I concur! But these products have them in the mix!
Boncrete where I'm from
It really depends on the overlay, some products need bare dry substrate, others moist and some a chemical liquid in place of water and or bonding agent. The best I've used was a three to five part system depending on color and finish and could potentialy cost the customer almost as much as the concrete did in the first place. Either way if you don't follow the manufacturers instructions word for word and step by step your doomed before you even start. Also if it's not expensive it's gonna look like shit and probably won't last, in my experience at least.
Concrete always gets me excited
I honestly liked it better before. I really like the look of weathered concrete
This comment section is straight up SAVAGE. It doesn’t look that bad 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Power washing isnt enough in new Zealand we call this overlay but the concrete needs to have a grinder go over it for adhesion purposes id say that will crack and chip off after a few cold night and hot days 2 out of 10
That look atrocious 😂😂😂
I literally laughed out loud at “atrocious” such a sing way to say ugly 🤣❤️
Man, the last clip of the final product, uffda!
I was going to say horrendous but i guess anyway you spin it the sentiment is still the same 😂
God!! that looks messy!! 🤮😔
Just mix Portland (and a little sand if concrete is very rough). You can add a little glue if the weather is hot. That will slow down cure time so it doesn't crack.
I think it looks pretty good didn’t know the texture on concrete came from using a broom.
😂😂😂 stop complimenting him it looks like shit and anyone who has ever poured concrete will tell you this was a horrible job
If your going to put in all that work at least go a little further and add a second coat to fill in the low spots that were visible. Also let it tighten up so you can roll the edges smoothly or use a edger
Next time use glue... and apply a drier mix to fill the lows and make it flat ands smooth... then do what you did.
I'm impressed how many youtube experts are here.
I think just the powerwash + maybe the sealer/coat of paint would have probably looked better. But as long as youre happy with it lol
I put slate tile down over my concrete porch. Looks awesome, imo.
I like it but where did u get the railings from I like those
I’ve done overlays, and they can turn out really nice if you know what you’re doing. If you don’t, then either hire someone who does or leave it alone. It’s not beginner stuff.
This is pretty funny, with how bad it looked, how little you showed the end result, and the comments. 😂
You should have just filled the cracked then used a epoxy this is just gonna crack again but be even worse cause now it’s gonna be chips.
Mr George, how much u pay the new guy..20 bucks? Too much! 🤣
alright, that one was good 🤣

Nice you have a sense of humor as these comments have been brutal.
Then again, lots of comments brutal or not might be just what the algorithm wants.
@@AndrewThronImprovements sorry bro but that looks like shit
@@amarketing8749he deserves it. Putting out crap videos like this on RUclips can get you hurt
The fact I rewatched this not once not twice BUTTTTT THREE times to see if I noticed a difference says a lot
Seeing him trowel the steps and edges then pulling out his little cousins toy leaf blower tells me this guys never touched a single tool
I like that rough concrete. It is great in the winter, as it grips your boots.🤔🤗🤗🤗
Looks better when you started
No it doesn't
@@randybobandy9828 yes it does
La playerita blanca fake news
Looks like a military family quarters home ❤
This is why you don't want to buy a house a little kid flipped.
The guy did a terrible job, but I'm curious what makes you call him a "little kid", when he's clearly an adult, and also why you think someone's age has any correlation to how good their work is?
@@agentalexcamp He's tiny.
Wow. If I could get someone to sign off on work like that, I bet I would have a lot more money in the bank.
You can use the broom as a bullfloat...check
That’s why you’re a handyman and not a contractor
I look forward to watching Ozzyman review the video of you slipping off that in winter.
There goes the awesome patina of age for a cheap “flip”
Concrete doesn’t patina, it eroded and cracks. Lmao
You passed the broom to early but get better as you learn ❤
Here's a video of how not to deal with your concrete
That explains why I always see stairs breaking into chip. They resurfaced it, didn't keep up maintenance and gave up. 😂
How much did that railing cost? It looks cool
It’s gonna chip off after one winter and end up looking worse than before. Rip it out and pour new
What type of railing system did you use? 🎉
Damn. Was gonna subscribe until I saw that finished product.
I want to see another video in 6 months lol
Overcoat with Roman concrete reinforced with 17% basault fiber. Keep it dry and impact flow it.
How soon will that thin layer flake off?
Weird that there is no sort of primer that bonds the skim layer to the substrate isn’t it?
Let me show you how GREAT it turned out, but you've gotta act fast! To be honest, it looked bad but after two coats, I'm sure it would look a lot better.
oh lord, add some granite grip to it now 😂 will make it look so much better
Lol def looks better but def dont look new at all lol
Those vertical and horizontal parts are called risers and treads. It would have been nice to see more of the finished product. The sun was glaring on it and you could hardly see it. You also didn’t show the staircase as a whole when it was finished.
Show the pic of following year of it all flaking off! That will def sale this useless product/idea! Typical DIY I read a pamphlet and watched a YT short now I give concrete instructions! Awesome broski!
Needed more sponge work
Nicely done!
Looks better how was before 😂
Great trowel skills
Demo and repour
Nice job
Sand Topping with concrete adhesive works better.
Love this ❤
Show us after a winter
"Started from the bottom now we're diggin' holes."
I kinda dig the old look--it reminds me of river gravel and ageless natural beauty. Lol
Definitely going to crack out
The ole looks a little better for one season trick
You should’ve waited to put a broom on it if you would’ve waited for an hour and tested the surface tension with your finger you could have made that look a lot better.
To be fair that concrete is made to look like that. Once it dries slightly you spray it with with a hose to expose the aggregate. It’s kinda old school.
How long does that stuff last?
I could've made it look just as good with a coat of grey paint !
In two winters it’ll crack and your have concrete chips everywhere 🎉
How do you get the railing back on if it's on the cement?
1 zoomed in video of half a second, not bad!
He said "Wanna make concrete look like new? Add concrete on top!"
Jack hammer , form, place new cement mix.
Where did you find the rail system?
Just wow...I hope that product wasn't expensive
#1 bullchet
Where’d you get them railings
Why not use a skip or serrated trowel and pass back over ?
Looked way better before
Would that not make a cold joint
Certainly hope they don't guarantee making non-slip if they do they better have a miracle-working Law Firm
Is that an epoxy base
So to make old concrete look new just put some new concrete over it? Genius
So to look brand new you just have to add new concrete?
I can’t lie, it looked better before. Stuff like this should only be done for safety, especially seeing how it doesn’t look good.
I would try in a small area, if it failed not a problem.
No bonding agent?
that looks good
I prefer mine dipped in a dark milk chocolate shell.
Cost? How long did the project take?
why wouldn't you just coat it in mortar to replace that which wore away?
Here's a look at the final result with a shot at 5x zoom so you have zero idea if it ended up looking good or not.
I remember when we didn't use sealers that had to be reapplied and concrete lasted a 1000 years...
This is about as attractive as sticking luxury vinyl planks on the stoop instead.
Well it does look different..
Where's the end product???
What have you done.!?
Step #1: Get rid of old concrete, mix new batch of concrete
Can see the spalling right though it. Maybe do multiple coats and hit it with a diamond wheel before sealing it.
What's the difference,??
No primer?
Just grind it down and stain it if u want it to look nice
you know it didn't work out when he wont show a zoomed out view but had no problem doing it in the before shots.
Let me see it now
So paint?
