There are several fortified gates in the city, near which the dwarves have built unique mechanisms, including cauldrons of boiling oil, with which you can repel the attacks of the invaders. Vergen is governed by the headman - Skalen Bourdon.
In 1269, during the next war for the Valley of Pontar, the troops of Kaedwen and Aedirn clashed in a bloody battle near Vergen. The battle ended in a draw, as both armies suffered fatal losses and were dispelled by the spell of Sabrina Glevissig, although tactically Aedirn prevailed, leaving the Valley of Pontar behind.
This small settlement in the north of Aedirn was founded by dwarves who began to mine ore among the surrounding mountains. Stone buildings were cut right into the rocks, which gave the architecture of Vergen a unique style. The town lay on an important trade route: one of the roads leading inland passed through it. People also tried to settle in the vicinity, but the wars in the Pontara valley led to the fact that only ashes remained of most of these villages. When we arrived in Vergen, besides its inhabitants, mainly dwarves, there were still a lot of people in the city.
The Aedirn nobility and the peasants - the rebels from the Saskia troops - who were camped there, looked at each other from under their brows, and all who had gathered together looked incredulously at Iorvet and his Scoia'taels. Those, with the arrogance characteristic of elves, tried to stay in their circle. In fact, if not for Henselt's troops standing nearby, all this rabble would have grabbed each other's throats. Detachments of the peasant militia, impoverished knights and volunteers from Krasnodar fought heroically shoulder to shoulder, forcing the Kaedweni veterans to pay in blood for every inch of the extracted land.
The result of the assault, it seemed, was a foregone conclusion. And yet the reinforcements of the Scoia'taels brought in by Iorvet managed to turn the tide of the battle. Vergen defended his independence with courage, steel and the blood of the fallen.
Regardless of whether Geralt decided to unite with Roche or Iorvet, he arrives in the vicinity of Vergen. Here, preparations for war are in full swing - Henselt Kaedvensky moved his troops across Pontar, intending to take advantage of the death of Demavend and the civil war in Aedirne, in order to finally take possession of Lower Markia. The invaders were opposed by the detachments of Saskia - the Maiden of Aedirn - consisting of dwarf and peasant militias, as well as a few combat-ready units of the Aedirn army under the command of Prince Stennis. They are fortified in Vergen. In addition, the Scoya'taeli, led by Iorvet, who believes in Saskia and her cause, join the defenders of the city.
Further, depending on which side Geralt took earlier, Vergen can either be captured, although the witcher and Roche can kill Henselt himself, and then the entire Lower Markhia will go to Kaedwen, and the defenders of the city will be killed, or the city will hold out, and Geralt , Iorveth and Saskia will be able to capture Henselt, so that he, at a meeting in Loc Muinne, will confirm the independence of the Free State in the Valley of Pontara with the capital in Vergen.
