    "Tithing is a sin".
Never heard anyone of faith say that.
Makes sense, since we're not under the law of Moses.

My church is a tiny church built by the hands of my Pastor, my grandpa and the other men in our congregation. My grandpa was Italian and he sold homemade pizza and delivered them for $3 (This was in the late 50s early 60s, way before Dominos) and he did it to help raise money to build our church. Some people who helped build it are still there after all this time and a few other's have went home to be with Jesus (including my grandpa). We pay tithes or give a dollar or two as an offering. But it's never asked of anyone and if someone doesn't have a $1 to put in the offering they are never treated differently. We give offering to keep the lights on and for the upkeep of the church. It's small and not much to look at, in fact most would consider it a shack but to me it's home. Built on the blood, sweat and tears of my family. And It's where I first learned about Jesus.

I amazed how people do not understand this very simple idea! If you are going to tithe, there is so much more than giving 10%. If you follow one law, you have to follow ALL the laws. It is so much better to live under the Grace of the One Who FULFILLED the law for us. Praise God for His perfect plans.

Wow! What you said is exactly the way I think about tithing. If a church 'guilts' a member into tithing or tithing an amount that puts a financial strain on a member then the preacher is asking for himself.....if he asks for a love offering or something specific for a mission then i, personally, will give more and freely with an open heart.

My wife thinks because we cut back on giving that bad things will happen. I told her if we give it's offering not a tythe and if God puts in my heart to give I'll give, but not under compulsion. funny how they say time to collect tythes and offerings. They should tell the leadership to stop teaching false and say we are collecting only offerings. So much deception in today's church.

I’ve had people tell me I’m cursed for not tithing. Because of that I searched the scriptures up and down. I now know with confidence it is sin to tithe, even if one agrees with me. I know that’s the truth of Gods scripture. And you know what pastors and teachers don’t understand? That this message makes me want to give more to God but rather out of a pure heart not trying to follow the law. This makes me tear up almost everytime I watch it. I love God and I want to know his word more.

Wow. Interesting. One thing about the not doing something because you will feel guilty if you don't, well, I don't suppose I'd ever have read the entire Bible if not for feeling guilty. I thought God wanted me to read the Bible. Sometimes I did it because I wanted to , but sometimes I did it because I felt that I should. I've found often that when I do whatever thing for the purpose of pleasing God, then I often learn to love that thing that I felt like resisting at first.

This is the way I see Tithing:
Why would GOD put a limitation on how much to give?
When a percentage is put on something, the percentage limits whatever it is, that its placed upon.
Because, unless it happens to be 100%, it is not the total, but instead a fraction of the total.
    (i.e. 50% = a half of something)
I don't believe GOD would put a limitation on giving.
To demand 10% would stop someone who wants to give more or everything they have.
Christ told people to sell their possessions, give to the poor, & follow Him.
Christ did NOT say, sell a fraction of you possessions, give a fraction to the poor, & follow Him!
Other than tithing (10%), I don't know of any other example where GOD decrees a limit on giving.
& GOD is not concerned with the percentage of how much we give. But rather, GOD is only concerned with the condition of our heart, when we give.
The woman who gave 2 mites, everything she had, gave more that all the financially stable people.
Those people gave a fraction.... a percentage less than 100% of what they had.
    They didn't please GOD.
    But the woman did!
Because GOD looks past percentages & is only concerned with the heart!
    The tithe is a percentage.
    It doesn't please GOD.
It only pleases some preachers on Sunday!
    Tithing should not be encouraged.
Why encourage a method of giving that limits giving??
So it doesn't even make sense.
Just give what you can; when you can; how you can, with a cheerful heart.
& don't focus on numbers, nor percentages.

Everything belongs to God, us, our money, our possessions, everything. It is all made by God for God. God does want us to help further the Gospel of Jesus Christ and that takes not only money but a much more valuable possession, our time. God loves a cheerful giver and as we give, we receive blessings from God both earthly and heavenly, much more than the gift we give. It’s also a faith thing. How much do we trust Gods promise to take care of us and meet all our needs.

I used to stress over this. I’m not wealthy so giving ten percent would make it hard on my family to pay another bill. We have just enough to get by and God knows that. So I give my time and talents freely to the church when I can’t make offering.
I have heard preachers teach on this and make people think tithing is a magic Lottery system. Put a dollar in to get more money…this is silly. Do what you can.

I find it a blessing to give and I tend to give more that way. If God says, "give this..." I give. I don't need a 10% to guide what I give, because I just do what God tells me to ON THE SPOT. And it is wonderful to see the blessings from it!

So much truth to this. And in Deuteronomy you will find out what tithing really is. For two years Israelites would take 10% and take it to the place God would tell them. They would literally use it to party, to celebrate with God. And if they could not make it, God told them to sell the truth for money and spend it on whatever their heart desired. So a tithe is not considered money. On the third year they would of take 10% and put in the storehouses in certain areas that they lived in for widows, the fatherless, the homeless and the levites. This was so everyone had an equal share. Then back to the next two years to party with the tithe again.

Is it required to make heaven? No! But he does promise an easier life to those that do, and I see as a way to keep your heart humble and willing to give. But hey each must work out their own salvation with fear and trembling. Praise the Lord Jesus! For he reins forever!

I was asking Jesus...what are you like? Father what are you like? My husband had left me, I was so afraid of not tithing. I found this e book called....Tithing, Giving and the Next Testament...by Anastasios Kioulachoglou. It was free online. The best thing I have ever read on it. We should be cheerful givers, for we are not under the law. We should not like scribes and Pharisees, who did all before men to get praise by men.
    Jesus also says:
"For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven."
And we should do all good things in faith, Paul also says in his letter:that no matter what we do that we think is right, even like eating, if we have not do it in faith, it is a sin. He says in his letter:
"And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin"
Read the letter from Paul to the Romans, they gave cheerfully to help brothers and sisters in need, and Paul praised their deed and was looking forward to seeing them.
We give because we love God, not because under the Law.

Okay so, here’s my perspective. I do give what you would call tithe and I endeavor to make it the first amount I take of any earning, but not to justify myself, I possibly miss it at times. I don’t see tithing or refusal to pay tithe as a sin.
I believe everything I am, have or own comes from God and so I just want to be a son that honors his Father but giving an amount towards that project which is close to his heart. Yeah, it is a minimum of 10% but I would very much like to give more than (a tenth - tithe).
    Let your heart lead.

    @c.e.benson3263 Год назад

Thank you brother for your sermons and answering questions.
But....I do say the book of Malachi is a very strong argument to test the tithe.
Now I'm not the kind of person who believes that all of your tithing needs to go into the church, especially if you belong to some super mega church and your pastor is driving around in a Mercedes-Benz and has four houses and two boats and encourages people to tithe so he can go on his 10th vacation this year.
But I personally have tested the tithe with god. I test what he says in the scriptures by using money that I get and I don't have much of it, but using my 10% and often times more, whatever God tells me that I should give, in everything from helping the poor to friends or Neighbors and the homeless and yes even my former Pastor who no longer runs our church because he is now retired but because him and his wife take care of six children and three of those children are disabled and two of them are in wheelchairs with spinal problems.
And strangely enough, with the little money that I get living on disability, somehow God always ends up not only giving me my money back in other ways, but he has actually doubled and tripled it when I have given more than my finances allow.
So I will say that when you do test the tie then you trust in God even with very little money that you may have, he absolutely delivers. He absolutely will cover your bills and cover your rent and cover the things that you need. Our God absolutely will supply and I have tested that many times and I have never been let down, not once.
So I do agree when it comes to not tithing to Mega churches. And don't tithe to pastors who insist that you tithe. And make you feel guilty about not doing it....they obviously are not trusting in GOD for their needs.
But if your pastor is a good man. And if your pastor is leading the church in the proper way it should go and he is relying solely on tides as his paycheck then why should we hold any tithing back at all from a man who should get paid for his services and all the things that he does within the church as a shepherd?
Where else is he going to receive money to survive on?
We don't work for free....neither does a pastor.
    Why should he get payed?
    God bless you.🙏

A few other thoughts on Malachi: At face value this passage would seem to imply that God is playing the role of either a mob boss or a slot machine - or both if one translates this passage in terms of monetary value. Who but a ruthless dictator would curse another for not carrying out this alleged indictment to regularly pay a percentage of your income - or else! Does this idea really pass the “love test”? Isn’t choice a primary component of love? And if tithing is compulsory as stated under Mosaic law, how can it really be considered a choice or any sort of act of faith? Another possible translation of this passage would suggest this is not the case. Some of the reasons why could be as follows:
      1. In the first few verses of the book of Malachi the “children of Israel” are addressed in a generic sense. However, since the Levitical Priests were technically also “children of Israel” it’s possible that the passage could have been directed to them exclusively. In Malachi 1:6 the indictments are clearly and specifically directed towards the Priests. From that point forward there is no clear change in the direction of focus for whom those indictments are made. The “Priests” are again specifically addressed in Malachi 2:1. As such, it would seem that the indictment to “bring the whole tithe into the storehouse” was actually directed towards the priests. We see no clear change in focus from the Priests for the indictment of “robbing God” so it is reasonable to assume that the indictment could very well have been directed toward the Priests, rather than the entire nation of Israel.
      2. There are reasons to believe that the Levitical Priesthood were the only ones actually allowed in the temple storehouse. Non-Jews were permitted the 'ezrat ha-nashim (the forecourt of the Temple); most Jews were permitted in the 'azarah (inner courtyard); only the priests and Levites were permitted in the heychal (inner court or sanctum); and only the High Priest could enter the kodesh kodashim (Holy of Holies). If only a select people were allowed in the storehouse, then Malachi 3:10 cannot be universally applied. It was the Levites, not all of Israel, who were to “bring up the tenth of the tithes to the house of our God, to the chambers of the storehouse” (Nehemiah 10:38). Therefore, it would seem that Malachi 3:10 was not directed at any others besides the Priests at the time which would further weaken the argument that tithing is to be universally applied today.
      3. Since the biblical tithe had nothing to do with paying money from monetary earnings there is no biblical reason to think that if anyone gives money to the church they will be monetarily blessed in return or otherwise cursed.
      4. It’s possible that what was happening at the time was that the Priests weren’t bringing the proper quantity and/or quality of tithe items (produce and livestock) to the temple as directed, perhaps keeping the best elements of their portion of the tithe for themselves. God could be indicting the Priests, through the prophet Malachi, to properly execute their part of the system, which included bringing proper sacrifices (quality livestock) and food (produce) for the other temple Priests and temple workers. Only the Priests were allowed to conduct sacrifices.
      5. The “floodgates of heaven” has nothing to do with monetary blessing. We first find this same term used by God back in Genesis 7:11 where the windows of heaven were open and rain contributed to the flood, as the fountains of the deep were broken open. In Genesis 8:2 it says the windows of heaven were stopped and the rain from heaven was restrained. Isaiah 24:18 also mentions the windows from on high; this phrase is consistently used for rain water. In Genesis it was a judgment. In Malachi 3 it was to be a blessing - rain on their crops. The nation lived in large part by their agriculture (Husbandry) and depended upon the rain. God's blessing had to do with the provision of water; no rain and they couldn’t produce adequate crops or sustain livestock. Perhaps this passage is emphasizing that if the Priests mishandled their tithes, which was part of the blessing in the Mosaic covenant, a curse would be put on them. The ground would not yield food because God would not allow it to rain which of course would be a detriment to all of Israel.
      6. There is no specific indictment for the entire nation of Israel to tithe as only the products of farmers and herdsmen were accepted as tithes. There is no mention of merchants, tradesmen, carpenters etc… ever bartering their crafts or services as a form of tithing or giving a tenth of their earned monetary wages. Therefore, it is unreasonable to conclude that Malachi 3:8-12 applies to the entire nation of Israel. As such, it’s also unreasonable to conclude that it applies to us today either.
      7. The book of Malachi was written at the time of Mosaic law in Israel. These laws supported a system of atonement that is now obsolete in the Christian faith as we (Christians) are now under grace, provided by the blood of Jesus.

We are warned all throughout the New Testament that we are to follow His Commandments.
"If you love me you will feed My sheep"
" Anyone who says they know Me, and keep not My Father's Commandments is a Lier"
"Think not that I came to bring peace to the world, but a Sword"
"Not one jot nor tittle shall pass away from the Law"
I understand that in the last 150 years, we've made a mess out of religion.
It's never a bad thing to want to please God Almighty.
I in no way think that I can please God all the time, I am just a man.
I have complete faith in Jesus Christ and the Atonement He made was the final sacrifice for all who exept Him.
I am not taking away from Christ, I am trying to live as if He was right there with me, and He is, all praise be unto The Most High God!!!

Uncomfortable with the teachings in the many churches I've attended I began going for fellowship with Christians only . God said to the preacher " you teach your message for profit and not mine , repent or I will rip my people from your arms. AND to the congregation you New and said nothing . Repent ". Ephisains 5-11 , John 3-20 teaches REPOVE THESE THINGS. Reprove Is to denounce or speak against . I've since decided to apply my skill to helping those that can't afford professional help . I pray I'm doing the right thing .

I've always given an offering. I'm not Jewish, I don't tithe. I also volunteer my time to the church by teaching Children's church once a month in rotation or if a special event comes up where they need help.

He mentioned if you do anything in an effort to please God or to make yourself right with him that is keeping the law; what about 1 Thessalonians 4:1 KJV
Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. Also in It says; Luke 11:42 KJV
But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. Jesus told the pharisees that they should tithe and keep the weightier matters concerning judgement and the love of God.

We have the liberty in Christ to choose to give a tithe but is not a requirement.
There were those who gave tithes before the mosaic law of tithing was instituted.
If we tithe according to the law it is sin.
if we choose to tithe in Grace it is acceptable.
The dividing line here is not whether tithing in itself is sinful but whether we tithe according to law or choose to tithe in Grace.
The question really is, if you tithe, are you giving a tithe, or paying and tithe.
if you are paying a tithe then you are trying to satisfy a debt.
Jesus paid our debt on the cross in full.
this is why it would be sinful to continue to tithe according to the law.
If you are paying a tithe according to the law, you are saying that Christ did not pay the full debt we owed.
The sacrifice of Christ, according to Scripture, becomes of no effect to anyone who practices the law.
God has blessed my wife and I more abundantly when we stopped paying a tithe and started giving from our heart.
everything that we have received, or ever will receive, is through the cross of Jesus Christ alone, there’s nothing we can do to earn God‘s love and favor and blessing.
we have received all favor and blessings and financial provision through Jesus Christ alone.

Tithing was discontinued with God's discontinuance of the Priesthood. it was the priest who collected the ten percent from the people and it was they who distributed. But over the years the priests became crooked oppressors as a result God ended and disbanded the group. This also ended the obligation to give 10% of annual accumulated wealth.
It was the death nail for the Children of Israel.

Amen Brother Michael! It's been hard all my life to tithe. Pastors make you fell guilty. When The Rauch HaKodesh told me to stop going to church in November last year, I started listening more, AND HEARING The Rauch HaKodesh. He guides me. When I see the homeless or other people. The Rauch HaKodesh reveals to me to give to this one or that one. When I look at them. I suppose He sees through my eyes.

Tithing was always the first fruit of the field or livestock to the Jew under the law and 10% was required in monetary terms if that was not possible. That was because the priest's service was to be concentrated on the service towards God in the temple and not spent using the money given forth. A cheerful giver does recognise that they should give all they can to the service of the NT church and just like Michael says, the 10% should be seen as a minimum. In essence, tithing is not giving money (as is the primary giving method for the NT saint) but fruit of the field or livestock.

Tithing was never money, it was food/drink in support of the priesthood. Tithing ceased at the reformation of the priesthood as our current high priest is in heaven and has no need for food/drink.

To inka365,we are not talking about the same thing. Michael Pearl is saying that tithing is a sin. If we tithe, then we are sinning. I'm say what the wordd of God is saying. God says " if we do not tithe, then we are robbing God. All God is asking is to do is give back just ten percent of what he gives us. That's all he's asking. You can not love God and maman. Either you love God and hate maman. Or you love maman and hate God. You can not love both.

The book of Malachi is not addressed to Christians. The Jews were in fact robbing God because their covenant required that they tithe. Neither the blessings nor the curses under the Law are ours. We have a different deal. In the book of Acts we see Christians giving, but they didn't tithe. Were Ananias and Sapphira guilty because they didn't tithe?

I'm going to have to disagree with the "you're sinning" part of this teaching, because I tithe because I want to tithe. On top of that I give an offering and give to a number of ministries. All of which I do with a joyful heart, not as some kind of work to please God as it were. My dad was a supply minister and never received tithes, but he gave tithes. I can remember as a boy when my parents gave me a quarter a week allowance, I would give a nickle in tithe every two weeks. I'm 68 and have seen God take care of my needs, even stretching my funds so I am able to help the less fortunate, all because I tithe. So if the Lord loves a cheerful giver, then He loves me.

But if after Christ came there is no longer Jew nor Gentile what would the purpose be for the Jews to keep the law? If it’s a sin for Gentiles to keep the law after Christ it should be considered a sin for the Jews to keep the law after Christ also. So why wasn’t Paul teaching the same message to both Jew and Gentile?

I know a lot of people don't like Mormons because they don't think they're Christians but that's not true they are just as Christian as the rest of them oh, but what I like about him none of them get paid for doing anything in the church all the money that's raised it's for people who need it, for the missionaries when they go on their missions to have the books and things they need, and to go back into the church. All the people that do the running of the church have their own jobs with their own money they do not take any money from the church. I think every church should be that way. Or why don't they try really relying on the Lord and asking him for his help to sustain their Church like they should be doing.
