Man, that team was so much fun. Speed and depth and ferocious defense -- they had it all. Seems like whenever things got a little bumpy, Sam Jacobson would come flying in out of nowhere with a huge dunk that would light the place up again. Thanks for posting. Great memories.
The key to that great team was a very very deep bench. That year we had some great role players on the bench who made key assists, steals, blocks and points
Wow. So happy I found this. I'll never forget this season. I snuck into the a game, a security guard I knew let me in. Because I didn't have a seat I had to just walk around and watch. The "BIG TEN CHAMPS! BIG TEN CHAMPS!" Chant I remember like yesterday. I was actually in Cancun Mexico the week the played Clemson and UCLA on Spring Break....thousands of us watched both games at a bar with no walls on the beach!! I still don't know how Jacobson wasn't an NBA star. But oh man what a team. Thomas, James, Jacobson, Harris, Jackson, Lewis, Charles, Tarver, Winter....one of my favorite Monnesota sports teams ever.
A team stacked with so much talent. The only game I attended that season was in Madison when they were beat in the final seconds by the badgers. That team was good enough to be national champs, BUT we all know how that season was wiped from existence.
I was 9 when this season happened. It was great for the Gophers to have a team that wasn't Hockey, that had a chance to win it all. Funny tid bit, after we lost in the final four......There were already tons of "Gopher National Champs" shirts made beforehand. So they were being 🔥 saled everywhere. The following winter I was in Mexico on family vacation, and saw tons of ppl wearing those shirts. It was hilarious and sad at the same time. Thanks for putting this video up and letting us remember, or see for the first time, how good this team was. Just curious, why don't they show the final 4 game?
I came here because of E Harris, Jacobsen and B Jackson. I forgot about this team. I only knew Clem Haskins at the time And they became a national power.
in my TOTALLY honest and/or accurate OPINION the best minnesota players ever are still legends #1 jerry west #2 elgin baylor #3 george mikan and star #4 kevin mchale

I had this on VHS!! No idea where it went... Thanks for sharing!
Bobby Jackson and Quincy Lewis. Two of my all time favorites. Thanks for the video.
What number is Quincy Lewis?
I love hearing Ray Christenson call the game. Thank you for posting.
Ray Christenson was the best ever radio-sports guy!
Yeah instant memories!
39:42 - A classic moment when the late great Al McGuire dances with the Gophers. Do the memories pass us by really fast.🏀

Favorite Team Ever!
My favorite radio call of all time came when they beat UCLA to go to the Final 4 and described how everyone felt that season. Its a perfect call.
John Paulson Ray Christensen best ever for BB and Football
We will always have the memories as Ray Christensen died today at the age of 92
That was a crazy season!!

If Eric Harris wouldn't have got hurt they probably would've won. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/Jv0j9HbbxRg/видео.html

Great season!
Love them❤️ They were awesome😎🔥👍
This season makes me hope so much that Coach Pitino can bring this sort of success back to the Barn! Ski-U-Mah!
Ouch. Comment has not aged well
Anyone have the Minnesota vs Fresno State games from 97/98 I’m willing to purchase a copy if possible
Is the big 10 championship banner still up or did they have to take that down
It's probably been removed. Final Four appearance wiped out of record books. 1982 was last Big Ten title.
A season that got vacated by the NCAA
Russel archambault my native
Too bad this season never actually happened.
Ha ha, pity all the NCAA wins were vacated due to Clem Haskins crookedness.
michaeld5 What a scumbag
Um I believe the players did some lying & his staff too! Y'all acting like he made these kids cheat
Academic scandal defined this season.
Which is stupid. They are the breadwinner of that school.
Football and Basketball are the primary breadwinners of a school
And cheat...don't forget to cheat.
Thanks for posting! Brought back some great memories. The double OT win over Clemson in the Sweet-16 was epic. What a great team.
