Hey Cory, this is John from last night. I watched the replay when I got home and then kicked myself for parking at Epcot. Had I been parked just about anywhere else I could've stayed with you guys and met up with my bud Brayden. He & I had to have passed each other somewhere in Future World. I would've Loved to have hung out on the Boardwalk for the rest of the night. It was definitely a great night and a great stream. I had a blast! Thanks....
Great stream with Brayden and nice view of the fireworks from the Skyliner! The rooms at the top of the Dolphin above the box are fake, they're only there for appearance. It was part of the design. A lot of people believe the black boxes was for a monorail but the boxes (in elevation) are taller than they have to be to accommodate the monorail. Architect Michael Graves likes to use dark and light areas or different materials to break up building façades. It was all part of the design.
@@CoryMeetsWorld Yeah, the story behind the Swan and Dolphin is also interesting. Michael Graves' (the Swan and Dolphin architect) basic concept for the Dolphin was that it was an island formed by a sudden cataclysmic event, an upheaval by an underwater volcano or earthquake. When the island emerged from under the sea, it lifted dolphins out of the water, and these are the dolphins on the roof. The banana leaves on the side of the building are the tropical plants growing on the island. The black box is the heart of the island, which burst open from the sheer force of the events. Water went spilling down the outside of the building into that “dolphin fillet” (two-dimensional dolphin) pool, and then splashed over to the Swan. The railings and the curving landscape connecting the two hotels indicate waves moving from the Dolphin and splashing up along the side of the Swan. These are the waves that you see on the side of the Swan. Two swans were so entranced by this natural phenomenon that they alighted to watch it up close and were turned to stone. I think Brayden could tell it was an Eisner hotel because it was originally Eisner's idea to build a convention center hotel by Epcot (he noticed Disney was losing money to competitors hosting conventions in the late 80s).
