      What's wrong with a prius? You're saving carbon emissions, important for your 4 kids that are faced with clinate change. It seems a weird American thing for a prius to be uncool. Forget what other people think _ it is super uncool to drive a gas guzzling truck. Check in with the rest of the world please and rethink it!

    You guys are so right, that's exactly how I felt. My interest was so high on ALL my cards that I just couldn't keep up and year after year it was not getting any better. So
    4 1/2 yrs ago is when I finally committed to making a change and actually as of last week
    4 1/2 yrs later I made my LAST payment of 30k+ of debt. I finally feel like a mountain was taken off my shoulders. Now next is to finally commit to declutter 😨.

    • @jeanne819

      Awesome !!! How did you do this? Through a Dave Ramsey program? If so, which one ?

    • @lisarivers1438
      @lisarivers1438 3 года назад +2

      @@jeanne819 No, It was through a program called "Money Management International" I'm not exactly sure where they are located but I'm in NY but it was all done online except for the initial call to go over all the finances. They deal with your creditors and arrange a monthly $ amount you can do and it usually takes around 4 years depending how much debt you have. Hope this info helps.

    • @jeanne819
      @jeanne819 3 года назад

      @@lisarivers1438 thanks much !!! I chatted for hours with 3 different non profit credit counselors giving them every detail of my financial life and they could not reduce my credit card interest enough so didn’t go through with the monthly payment being deducted from my checking account - one told me my 8K Chase balance at 19 percent would drop to 2 percent and I was shocked ! I then get a package in mail and 4th page says Chase is 10 percent so someone not being honest ... will check out MMI they sound familiar / I’m also in NY !

    I got into debt by no longer being able to pay my mortgage and bills.I had two strokes which I am glad to say did not affect me physicallt apart from I now sometimes drop things with my left hand. I do now have expressive dysplasia and struggle in crowds.I feel really blessed now as I was able to sell my house which I loved and did mot want to sell. Following much prayer I yielded and that is when God took over.I saw my current house on the Monday viewed it Wednesday and sold mine on the Friday. The bank was about to forclose on me .The immense feeling of relief I feel I cannot put into words. Even though I can't work now because I live frugally I want for nothing I need God is goodhe is my provider.x

    We LOVE Dave Ramsey!! A friend gave us his book, Total Money Makeover, and we embraced it and had a total mind shift! It took us exactly 7 years from start to finish, but 3 years ago we paid off the mortgage! We had a mortgage burning party with our kids and yelled, "We're debt free!!!!!!!" So liberating! I made little charts and colored in the amounts, to stay motivated. Sometimes it felt soooo far away and daunting, but I just kept repeating Dave's quote.."Baby steps, all in the same direction, eventually get you where you want to go." :)

    Tom & Dawn, I'm so grateful for your encouragement and honesty. I use to be a financial disaster and could not see a way out from under all the debt. Like you I found Dave Ramsey and have been totally debt free for over 15 years. Also like you it has not been easy. But it is so worth it. I pay cash for my cars, own my home and have no credit card debt. I have $10,000 in my savings account for emergencies plus investments and now that I am retired I am not worried about my future. I've learned the difference between wants and needs. If you asked me 15 years ago if I was capable of doing this I would have doubted my ability. Just like Tom said, "anyone can do this...." God bless you, you are changing lives.

    Nearly 2 years ago we paid off our mortgage making us 100% debt free and we will never go back in debt again! We found our inspiration in scripture and kept that in front of us. Since then we’ve been doing some remodeling and upgrading in our home with cash. We have 5 children and are not even 40 yet. Truly by the grace of our Heavenly Father could we achieve this. He is so faithful! Dave Ramsey study was a huge stepping stone for us also.

    YES! Love this! I would add #6, which is two-fold; stop caring what other people think of you & your things AND stop comparing yourself to others & the things they have.
    Once I did this our whole world changed for the better. Our budget changed, our view of possessions and money changed, our whole financial future changed. Most importantly, the legacy we are leaving for our kids changed, in that what we're teaching our children about money and possessions became a totally different narrative than it was pre Dave Ramsey.

  • @michelleprice5945

    I used to watch Till Debt Do Us Part on tv and that helped a lot with seeing how to budget and what I really learned was don't compare to others, just because they drive a fancy car does not mean they have cash in the bank. I drive a 2008 Versa but we paid cash and it's super cheap to maintain. I've had it for 6 years and would never go back to a car payment.

    You are abs right that you need to get to an 'ah-ha, time to change' moment with debt. I accumulated £thousands of debt (over last few years) when i suddenly got very ill, had to stop working, went from a highly paid job to nothing, ran out of my savings over time and am single with an expensive mortgage. Rock bottom and miserable. Dave Ramsay is not known in UK but I found him, read his book and now on baby step 2. Happy days! Thx for this encouragement - all in God's timing!! You are such a great couple!!

    My husband and I listened to Financial Peace University just before getting married 14.5 years ago. We were also fortunate enough to graduate college with no debt. But thanks to the FPU principles, natural frugal instincts, and friends on the same page, we feel like we actually have been "living like no else" even while "living like no one else." Praying we can pass the same ideals onto our daughters!

    I got out of debt by going into a total spending moratorium. I bought nothing but food and meds for a whole year. Then after that, I only bought the bare necessities after that. Nothing decorative or non essential comes in my home even though I'm debt free except my small, very low interest mortgage. It's easy now and it keeps me minimal. It's my permanent lifestyle.

      @@MegOfBroccoli so the answer to being financially self sufficient is to get free stuff (housing, schooling, etc) and not learning how to manage the money and income that you have? I'm really asking. My husband and I are not, what you would call, "a privileged white couple" yet we've always made our own way with our own income. I would encourage others to do the same versus being dependent on free anything long term (if you need help for a season, no shame in that). Blessings to you.

    Y’all are so awesome. Made me tear up. I did FPU, paid off student loans, CCs, bought a cash car, saved up a big chunk of 3-6M expenses. Then I got laid off for 11M. Got a job making a lot less, driving farther, and bought my very first new car 3M before getting laid off. Whew. It’s still a work in progress, never finished the baby steps. Good reminder to recommit. Also, I highly recommend 9-12M of expenses saved. Not only was I out of work but I have some major ongoing medical expenses (learned about GoodRx); only had to use part of savings. Anyway, there’s a lot more. Just wanted to say thank you.

    DAWN!! Oh gosh!! I literally never comment on RUclips but I HAD to come here and say THANK YOU!! We've been on the Dave Ramsey plan for about two years (BS2 has been a real struggle). I've been following your channel for only a couple months in my recent path to minimalism. I love your channel and your content. You are so relatable, down to earth, and honest. We JUST had to shell out $15,000 for plumbing repairs and I know pre-Dave Ramsey we would have panic and made minimum payments for eternity, but now we have a plan and it will be paid for in no time. Everything is a minor inconvenience or bump in the road instead of a tragedy!
    We are paying cash currently for my husband to go through nursing school, we have tons of debt PLUS our house, we both work full time outside of the home. BUT we are thankful for this plan. Like you said, 5 years is going to go by either way, we need to be intentional with our actions!
    Here's to being minimal and debt free!!

    I’m screaming inside!!! Yes! Yes! I started minimalizing our home in June! The benefits and blessings have been more than I could’ve planned. Since November God has pressing my heart about finances and simplifying this area of our life. We are in debt. God has revealed so many incorrect ways of thinking about money. I couldn’t see these thoughts as wrong bc my house and mind were so cluttered. My husband and I are starting the talks to debt free living now. I know next Christmas our lives will look completely different. I know more of our money will be available to us. I know we will be freely supporting ministries that I wish we could give to but can’t right now. I know enjoying life without debt hanging over our heads is our future!! Thank you! I love this channel. I watch it faithfully everyday. You keep me decluttering a few things everyday. I’m constantly challenged!

    I won a free Finacial Peace workshop for my husband and I to attend. It was amazing and a total change of perspective. We started and changed spending habbits, got rid of extra things creating cost, cut credit cards up ect. But we didnt fully finish. Lost focus That was like 5 years ago? Then at some point we got 2 new credit card ....Last month we talked about trying agian and recommitting to the program. Part of our plan for getting rid of our small debt is to combine it with minimalism so i can sell things to end up with less stuff and get that small card to negitive balance! Thanks for reminder!!!

    Hi, I love your videos and you have a wonderful family. It has been 1 year since we paid off the mortgage. I always listened to Dave Ramsey on my way home from work and would tell my husband about the debt free screams. I would listen to how everyone said it was freeing to be out of debt and I kept wishing for that feeling. I always did the bills and would try to get things paid off, but since we were not doing the bills and budgeting together, it was easy for my husband to buy stuff. So we sat down together and worked on things together. We went on a “no buy” budget, ate all meals at home, used coupons for everything (if it wasn’t on sale AND no coupon, it didn’t come home). I didn’t keep track of how long it took or how much debt we were in, I could tell you how much the mortgage was! And we have had the wonderful “free feeling” for one year and it is awesome. We have been able to help others, give meaningful donations to our favorite charities, and save lots of money for retirement. And we are now taking “baby steps” to get rid of the stuff we do not need. Anyone can do this, just take one step at a time.

    I love Dave Ramsey's debt free plan! We didn't do it in a very organized manner, but we did do a lot of what he recommends....and we are now debt free except for our incredibly small $35,000 mortgage. We haven't used credit cards in years, and we dont take loans anymore! We buy our used cars for cash from private sellers. We never have to worry about our utilities getting shut off, or having to decide between food and our bills. Its a GREAT feeling!!!!
