When I was a teenager my dad left and didn't pay alimony or child support. It was really hard on my two little brothers and me. It made me feel extremely uncared for and even unwanted. Kids really suffer when there isn't money, even for food.
Money`s isn't everything. Try having 2 violent alcoholic parents that blame you for everything.
My mother also spent 26 years trying to end my life when she got drunk and I was my fathers punching bag.
I went into a home for a while when I was 11 and after 2 weeks didn't want to go home.
Got fed up with my fathers abuse and broke his jaw when I was 14.
I`m now 48 and haven't seen any of the family since 2010.
Best choice I ever made was leaving them all behind and the cops have a note on my file stating that I am not to be tracked or contacted under any circumstances including a death in the family.
I don't want this to turn into a "who had a worse childhood" competition. There is a lot that goes into raising kids. It sounds like we both had parents weren't capable of making good choices.
When Dads don't pay child support kids starve it's that simple. The guy is a jerk and only hurting his kids. It's a typical assumption of divorced dad's to assume the mother is partying with the child support. Meanwhile don't bother giving a thought to the kids who's tummies are empty.

You should take a look at child support tables. As a guy you are not just paying for food and clothing, but to maintain their standard of living before the divorce, while your own standard goes way down.
This dad is a piece of shit, calling his kids a game, being vengeful, not supporting his children financial eventhough his wife supported him for so many years, and when she needed him, he wasn't able to be the man she needed. Not saying she is a shining example of responsibility, but I cant stand a grown ass man being so petty. My husband is nothing like this, makes me greatful to have him. Love him so much.
Grandmother should keep her trap shut because her precious son is as much to blame as the wife. Spiteful, childish mean spirited and those two gorgeous boys don't know which way to turn.

@jeanette Hinds I was thinking the same thing. The Mother in law, never making her feel welcome is going to grow some tension in the marriage. She wanted her son probably to find a soft spoken partner, not like Lynn who was very confident and spoke up.
How dare his mother critize her for feeding the boys 'junk food' when the first thing he said when he picked them up was "McDonald's?". If he doesn't want to pay her money, buy the kids school clothes, send them food parcels of good food. Buy a washing machine.
This was 14 years ago. I wonder if the children have watched this yet?

I grew up with my mum telling me every couple of months that she wants to divorce my dad, my first memory is probably when I was around 8. I’m now 22 and she still comes to me saying she wants to leave him, then the next day every thing is fine it’s so exhausting

He had poisonous whispers from his family... brother, mother etc. If they really loved him and the boys they would have said "you are two different people and I know she really irritates you but you both love the kids. Try to get along with her for their sake. They are happy and loved. Try to focus on that and not how you feel about her".. instead they encouraged his hatred. He is weak and played along with being the victim.

Yes, saying waaayy too much in front of these very young and impressionable children. I realize there's a film crew there, but the parent *can* make a choice and be adament and require that these types of conversations be done without the children present.
These types of values (or lack of values) is probably why they're divorcing.

You can see where the son gets his nasty characteristics from - his mother was as vile as they come. The way she went on in the taxi was awful and in front of both her grandsons one of which was so excited on showing off his Lego. Those poor little boys had to listen to their so-called father calling their mother an alcoholic. I'm not even half way through yet...

Steven’ s momma raised a 30 year old boy who relies on women to build his confidence up. First it was momma then he delegated such duty to his wife, now it’s a new girl friend. Newsflash -he is emotionally unstable but not because of the boys.

Yes, his mother DOES have Naricissistic Personality Disorder no doubt and he tried to live out his unhealthy mommy relationship with his wife. He was another child in the marriage, not a husband. That was part of the issue. Then the wife totally emasculated him and PREVEnteD him from being a man in their marriage -- and they are SURPRISED they didn't like their CHOSEN roles?? The problem was, BOTH the wife and husband wanted to be taken care of -- the 2 young boys were more mature than their parents put together.
What will be most interesting is how they will all view it when older. In 20 years will he still be sticking by his actions? Also how will the boys view it? It's on film for eternity!

the dad is an immature person whose attitude is influenced by his mother. By winning the "game" like he called it, he will prove to his mother he is the man who can control the situation....He does not hesitate using his children to achieve this and it is pathetic..The mom is not perfect, but she is just a human being, she loves her children in a healthier, less egocentric way, and has a stronger personality than her x husband. I think this is the root of the problem.

I often wonder how my ex refusing to even say hi to my kids affects them. I’m hoping as the only parent they’ve ever really known, I can be enough and the effects aren’t horrible. I'm watching this in 2021, and it just occurred to me that these two boys are now all grown up! I would love a follow up interview to know how they are all doing. In any case, I wish them all the best.

Her mother is also a bxxxh, full of spite etc. When she first complained to him, why did he not talk to his ex-wife and get her side of the story? What a mess, a dreadful mess. Eventually those two boys will be the casualties, and their mum is (it seems to me) very naive, unaware of how manipulative her husband is.
My ex-husband behaved the same way as this man. He wanted revenge and he vilified me. Divorce is hard on everyone. No one wants to be separated from their children.
Men, if you don't have the spine enough to stand up to your mother and support your wife, then you do not belong in a marriage, and you might as well go home to mommy and stay there. There is NO "happy medium" when your wife and mother are at odds. There are not two sides. There's being with your wife and being a team, or there's not being married.

I think Steven was happy to loose the custody. He just wanted to show her he can do smth, but he was not really planning to take care of his sons full time, as it is not that easy. He, himself is still a baby.

During that short time when boys staying with him, he must find out it was actually not a easy job to take care of two boys, I wonder how is his new girl going with him ? I'm not one to automatically take a woman's side, I really watched this objectively and with an open mind. That said, the man, Steven, disgusts me. For him it wasn't about the kids - it was about a personal vendetta against the ex-wife. For him it was all a twisted game, psychological warfare as the woman put it. But with all his games he ended up hurting the KIDS. They really suffered the most. That woman is a good mother and he's pretty lucky with the arrangement they had to start with.

Kept calling social services on her in the hope that he would fast track himself to getting full custody?! That's incredibly disruptive for the children and he's calling them over nothing. Like your child isn't in school one day? Big deal kids get sick. Calling because of that is crazy, if theyd been out for weeks or something I'd get it but he's just doing this to harass her.
I am only 10 min in but I do think pulling children from there home and draging them to the other side of the country so they can't see there father when they need to is pretty fukd up.

@@gmama378 I don't think you realize how a women has to give up on her career once she is pregnant and going into labour and gives birth those first years of a childs life where she has to be around the baby. We have to state if we are married or not on every job for a reason. If those children are taken care of by the dad later, which is impossible in my country, a child is under the mother's care until the age of 12 and they get dad visits, unless there is some kind of issue that would prevent her from taking care of them. Also men who take care of their children here marry another wife so she could take care of his kids, it's pathetic.
If a kid is with the dad, I as a women agree too, a women should pay for her children too just like a dad would, but again this isn't the case in our law. I know many women who takes care of their (unable husbands) and children with their own minimum pay check. I don't think it's about you or her anymore it's about bringing up the children in a safe and secure environment.
But in many cases it's always a single mothers raising children and men not willing to pay and running off trying to live a life thet is expired already.

I had to pause this midway through and read the comments to see if I was the only one who found this father especially just like despicable. Glad I'm not the only one. I've no respect for this man involving the government in something that could've been talked over and sorted out privately. Life is messy, and no household is without dysfunction. To call up social services at such an early stage is disgraceful and wrong. He should've called her first and discussed his concerns before taking such a drastic step - and it is drastic, on par with calling the police if you SUSPECT a crime without being a direct witness.
I don't get it! Why would any Dad not want to pay support his own kids? He made them and he should contribute to their care, regardless of where they live. Maybe he thinks its up to the tax payer to support them like so many others...
Yes I heard his reasons on the video. The point is the kids looked like they got fed, clothing etc. It's up to him to contribute to that, regardless of how she lives her life. It's not the job of the tax payer to support other people's kids.
My father refused to pay child support because AFTER my parents divorced, my mother met another man (my father also met another woman...though BEFORE my parents divorced), and he moved in with us, and my father was of the opinion that my mother's boyfriend should support us since he was living with us. He also just didn't like the idea of giving my mother money, since he didn't trust her with it and also because she divorced him and he was mad about that. He would, however, give us kids money if 1. We asked and 2. He had it, and 3. He didn't have it allotted for anything else. My mom was actually entitled to a lot of alimony but us kids talked her out of going after him for it, because he he didn't have it and dealing with him more than she needed to wasn't worth it. By the time us kids finally moved out of the house, our father had gotten back on his feet, and had become far more willing to help us out financially when we needed it. Getting back to his opinion that the man who is living in the house should pay for the children in the house, he did stick to this philosophy when his girlfriend (not the one he was seeing when my parents divorced) and her son moved in with him. He also had to pay pack what my mother received from welfare.
