I was already a carpenter by necessity when I discovered Norm. I can’t tell you the immense influence he had on my life. He taught me and gave me the confidence to take my woodworking to the next level.
I used to watch these videos on PBS years ago! This show is what got me hooked to woodworking and ultimately inspired me to go to trade college for carpentry 31 years ago! I remember watching Norm building a chest with a built in checkers board on top..... I'm hoping to see that video on here in the future! I can't tell you how happy I am to see these videos on RUclips!! 👍
I'll bet Norm would have LOVED to have a Domino when making those mortise and tenons instead of that jig he used. It is cool though to see how things were done before modern day tools emerged.
Always love your work. Been watching you for what seems to be a good 30 years.after watching your shows and videos over and over again I've noticed something I'm very interested in. Where can I find the mortise and tenion jig you use in this video?
Looks easy enough to make some aluminium plate about 8mm and a large aluminium angle piece say 50mmx50mm, just need a hack saw, drill, and some files, if you can make mortise and tenon joints by hand you could easily make the jig, believe in yourself you can do it.
I already paused and made some rough sketches. This is a neat little jig! I tried looking to see if it was ever on the market but I couldn't find anything....
was this made with white or red OAK?? I'd like to take a punt at making one of these one day. Norm makes it all look so easy. I need to get some more clamps in soon. I don't have anywhere near enough.
It is so nice to see Norm and these episodes on RUclips. Thank you.

Prett cool Norm Arbam.
Norm's a true craftsman.
I love this show. I remember watching these as a teen. And seeing him on this old house.
The umbrella stand would be perfect project for the mudroom at my summer house down in Martha's Vineyard

#NormAbram norm!
He always looks like he's going to say something interesting right at the very end, but then BOOM - he gets cut off like a driver on the Mass Pike.

Who likes to guess which tool is next?

The mortise and tenon jig is pretty cool.
Why is Norm cagey about whether he fumed the piece to finish it? He doesn’t say he did or didn’t.
How about if I fume the oak in my neighbor's garage?
@ 1:34 Norm, your Adirondack chair is getting wet! Are you still gonna sit down and relax in it, before the carpenter bees ruin everything?
