Derek Carstensen. I agree! Paul says he follows the Law, but then says people don't have to. God doesn't change His mind! His Law was for the Jews forever. And Jesus taught that he didn't come to abolish the Law, but said those who keep, and teach it, will be great in the kingdom of heaven. No wonder there are thousands of Christian sects. Everyone interprets the N. T. differently. Maybe we are better off just listening to Jesus.😊

17When He had entered a house away from the crowd, His disciples asked Him concerning the parable. 18So He said to them, “Are you thus without Understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, 19because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, [g]thus purifying all foods?” 20And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.

      Shalom.
I used to also believe the same until I read those verses within context. The context was about eating with the hands dirty (bacterias) and that is what causes us to go to the latrine, yet, the word of the Creator, the Father says which animals he wants us to eat in chapter 11 of the the book of Leviticus.
The word, the scripture is eternal and it does not change. Whenever we find a discrepancy in the scriptures we can't dismiss the old or.the new testament, what we have to dismiss is our way of thinking and our opinions because the word does not contradict itself, it is only thru our own ways and traditions that we come to conclusions away from.the truth.(the word)
      For example:
Genesis 1:29-30 we are supposed to eat from the land things that are ABOVE IT and have SEEDS, contrary to the beasts and the animals that eat without these set of guidelines.
Things like potatoes, carrots, yuca, are underneath the ground and are not to be eaten. We behave worst than animals by going underground and reaching for all these things and call them healthy and vegetables.
The same goes with eating chicken
There is no difference between a chicken and a black vulture, they are both scavengers, one flies the other not but they are both unclean animals. It does not matter how you raise it or feed it, it is still unclean.
Just listen to the voice of our Father in the scriptures and it shall be clear, but even if you don't, it makes sense, we often eat chicken from a ranch that has been eating fleas and ticks and worms and lizards and insects and they even eat themselves and we think that it is proper or kosher for us to eat, well, it is not. Remember the first sin was for eating something that was forbidden and it was thru our mouths and what we ate that we corrupted ourselves in Adam and Eve.
      Genesis 1:29-30 and
      Leviticus 11 (whole chapter)
There are no contradictions in the scriptures

@Alethia 21 ;-) Thank you very much for your reply, I read it word by word. I am very glad that now you see that there is no such thing as "case closed".
That's why I laughed. I was not laughing at you and I'm sorry if you took offense, I was just laughing at the arrogance of the statement.
When dialogue is shut like that, one just shows that the understanding of the topic is limited or that one doesn't want to honestly put the "traditional understanding" to the test. If it were like that, one would be like those who can only hear their own voice.
There's no need for Ad Hominem attacks of specific people -or groups of people for that matter. That adds nothing to the discussion. If you are going to discuss His Word, may it be with His Word and in truth.
It is sad that angry words, like the some of the ones you wrote, sound pretty much like those horrible teachings by Justin Martyr (which originated supersessionism), John Chrysostom (Adversus Judaeos), and Martin Luther (On The Jews and their lies), ideas that only spouted hate against Jewish people and by which Christians have a very distorted view of the Biblical feasts.
The disciples had determined in the first century what gentiles who joined the people of Israel had to do. They basically said (I paraphrase my understanding of the text) look, for starters, don’t judge the gentiles or impose anything on them. Only command them that they should not eat certain things and that they should continue to congregate every week to learn about Moses’s Law.
"For from ancient generations Moses has had in every city those who proclaim him, for he is read every Sabbath in the synagogues.”
That means... do not judge the gentiles as to what they can eat or can't eat. Let them come, inform themselves, and learn about God's law so they can judge themselves and make their own decision with intent. This was a given, everyone continued gathering as believers every week. It was normal.
The same thing can be extrapolated to the feasts.
Paul talks of believers as children needing milk and then going forward to eat more solid food. New believers are like that. If you give them meat… they will choke and die.
How do children learn? Through imitation, learning day by day, little by little, through correction administered with patience and love. As long as traditions are not imposed and that the traditions themselves are NOT in contradiction to God’s Word, I see no problem in people doing certain traditional things. However, I repeat, none of those things should be imposed on the gentiles. I think that of Joseph Shulam's points that you missed.
God is a pedagogue and asks us to be teachers as well... (Deut 6:4-9).

Unfortunately, many believers have been mistakenly taught in their tradition that those things are not important, currently invalid, or plainly unnecessary.
I don’t call them “the Jewish feasts” as many do, I call them Biblical feasts. I do think Jews have a lot to teach because God has set them as the keepers of His feasts. God got upset when they celebrated them in their own way and half-heartedly so that's why He says "I hate, I reject your festivals, Nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies." NOT that God was rejecting the feasts per se. He doesn’t detest the feasts He created for us. Of course, obeying blindly, without understanding, is not the same as acting with understanding and deep conviction.
God wants people to learn, understand, and walk in His ways. The onus in on the teachers who should share God’s Word not by imposition of their own tradition (Jewish or Christian) but in the freedom of the Messiah, through sound teaching and love.
Obedience will always bring blessing. It is God’s promise. Obedience to what? God's Word. Which Word, the one Given by God at Sinai and upheld and fulfilled by Jesus. If you believe Jesus is God, then you believe the Word God gave us through Moses, is His Word too and it applies to all his creatures according to their condition and role in God's plan.
When a foreigner/gentile decides to follow God, he should not even think of himself as being different or separate from the People of Israel. That was not Paul’s invention. God said it much earlier.
    Isaiah 56:3
Let not the foreigner who has joined himself to the Lord say, “The Lord will surely separate me from His people...” read together with verses 6 & 7.
The role of the Jewish people is not over yet. We are called to bring people to God's paths. That role has been taken by the Christians (baruch HaShem for that) but as we have been dispersed around the world, and now that the time of the gentiles is reaching it end, we will also bring understanding to the rest of the nations.
    That's why it says:
Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”
Many say that Jew is Yeshua and, fair enough, that could be true, Hellelu-Yah. But the grammar can also indicate that is talking in the plural when the gentiles say: "לֵאמֹ֗ר נֵֽלְכָה֙ עִמָּכֶ֔ם כִּ֥י שָׁמַ֖עְנוּ אֱלֹהִ֥ים עִמָּכֶֽם". Of course, this cannot be understood by many Christians because in their estimation God has abandoned the Jews. However, we know God is faithful to His promise, and He said He would never abandon His people. Furthermore... He said He will bring them from the four corners of the Earth... and I think that's when the gentiles will "hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”
There will be a time, and the time is coming, when the gentiles who wholeheartedly love the Lord from among the nations will come seeking for a Jew to help them come closer to God's word. And that, my friend, is where I think Messianic Jews will play an important role in all of this.
Let me ask you sincerely, out of concern. Would you tell God in His face that you do not care about His commandments?
The Torah shows us the character of God himself; it sets the standards... His standards, not ours because we are so very easily turn to please ourselves and that’s why we want to interpret His Word according to our selfish understanding and unfortunately many will be deceived and get lost due to that. When we change God’s Word to fit our desires, we end up creating a false god or simply putting ourselves in His place, we are definitely in trouble.
No one can claim that he or she can gain salvation through works, that’s not the purpose of God’s Law, the purpose is to make us more like Him through His Spirit that is the one that convicts us of sin.
    What for?
That by “discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” through His word and His Spirit “the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work”.
Let me clarify something if it is not clear by now:
Good works do not lead to salvation, it is salvation which leads to good works. We need to give the fruit of good works, i.e. the fruit of the Spirit.
His Word reminds us that “no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account of our actions...”
Do we now have a free pass to break God’s perfect law? Read Romans 6 without picking verses... read it all in context.
Do we have the right to ignore what He says now that we are “mature” and don’t have the proctor guiding us?
Do you remember what is sin? Sin is transgression of God’s Law, and the Law, that is, the word of the Living God is the tool that the Holy Spirit uses to lead us to perfection. Now we do not need someone to teach us because we have the Holy Spirit in us. Now we are not obliged to keep the law because, if we are really born again, the Spirit will compel us to do so through our new nature.
If God’s law were not pure, would God’s promise be based on writing His law on [our] hearts (Jer 31:31) and put a new spirit within [us], and that He will put His Spirit within us “to cause [us] to WALK in His statutes and be careful to OBEY His rules.”
If you renounce God’s Word, you make your faith invalid. How can you share the Gospel without the Law? What about your listeners?
How are they going to “gain Christ” if there is no Law to convict them of sin?
    How will they repent?
This discussion about the Law has much attached to it. The notion that God’s law is “old” is pushed due to an anti-Semitic interpretation that is called Replacement Theology because the only way to support the claim the “the church” replaces the Jews is without the Law that states the opposite (Read Jeremiah 33). That theology is based on hatred towards the Jews, not on the Love of Christ.
That is why He will say to many who did things in His name: “I never knew you; depart from me you workers of lawlessness” Workers without Law.
I pray that Yeshua does with you as He did with His disciples in Luke 24 (read it all), that “beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” And that He also “open your mind to understand the scriptures” so that you would not reject knowledge as it says in Hosea 4:6.
May the truth, love, and shalom of the Messiah Yeshua fill your heart and your mind, that it may “destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to OBEY Christ.”
    God bless you brother.
    Gotta go.
    Shalom.

Simply read, study, understand and follow the teaching and allegory the Holy Spirit gave Paul to write to the churches in Galatia specifically Gal 4:21 thru ch 5. That should bring about a better & higher understanding regarding the 2 covenants/testaments (old covenant and new covenant). One from Mt Sinai and one from Jerusalem. I'll take the new covenant from Jerusalem above like Paul and the rest of the Christians did and we have cast out the old covenant from Sinai as the Holy Spirit has commanded us to do throughout the scrpitures.

No one is saying the Torah isn't good. Christians just are not under the commands of the Torah/law of Moses or any old testament command. But since people are twisting the words of the Torah to their own detriment and wanting to use the law of Moses as commands for Christians today we will discuss this further. See some seem to claim the only place food was sanctified by God's word was only in the law of Moses, but let's look closer at the Torah. Genesis is part of the Torah. God already sanctified every creature to be eaten by his word. Is this not in the Torah? Hello?
Gen 9:1 God blessed Noach and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. 2 The fear and dread of you will be upon every wild animal, every bird in the air, every creature populating the ground, and all the fish in the sea; they have been handed over to you. 3 Every moving thing that lives will be food for you; just as I gave you green plants before, so now I give you everything - 4 only flesh with its life, which is its blood, you are not to eat.
-God said every moving thing that lives will be food for you and your sons. God kept his promise. Every word of God is pure. You just have to understand & teach the word of God with understanding correctly/rightly dividing the word of truth. Jesus said he would send the Holy Spirit to guide the Apostles in all truth. We know Paul was an Apostle of Jesus and talked with Jesus personally and the Holy Spirit talked to Paul personally as well. Let's see what the Holy Spirit says to Paul. We as Christians read that we can eat everything because God said it in 1 Tim 4:3 They forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods which God created to be eaten with thanksgiving by those who have come to trust and to know the truth. 4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing received with thanksgiving needs to be rejected, 5 because the word of God and prayer make it holy.
-So why would anyone be teaching that Christians whether Jew or Gentile should abstain from certain foods in obedience to God and try to use the law of Moses which is part of Torah to validate the doctrines of demons and seducing spirits. What Paul is writing to Timothy is the word of God so this letter to Timothy, in of itself, is enough to sanctify all foods for Christians whether Jews or Gentiles. People who teach forbidding marriage and require abstaining from certain foods have departed the faith as the Spirit expressly stated. Since the church was established on the day of Pentecost after Jesus rose from the grave and went back to heaven, no baptized believing Holy Spirit-filled Christian is under the Law of Moses/Torah nor are we commanded by God to abstain from unclean foods. Paul says the kingdom of God is not about eating and drinking but for some reason, some want to say & teach that the kingdom of God is about not eating certain foods. Christ, The Holy Spirit nor the Apostles taught that to the church. The Holy Spirit inspires Paul to write that nothing is unclean and all things are clean. So why are some teaching that Christians whether Jew or Gentile can't eat anything unless it's Kosher? Again Romans 14 is just another new testament/new covenant/the law of Christ written example that every food has been sanctified by God's word.
Romans 14:14 I know - that is, I have been persuaded by the Lord Yeshua the Messiah - that nothing is unclean in itself. But if a person considers something unclean, then for him it is unclean; 15 and if your brother is being upset by the food you eat, your life is no longer one of love. Do not, by your eating habits, destroy someone for whom the Messiah died! 16 Do not let what you know to be good, be spoken of as bad; 17 for the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, shalom and joy in the Ruach HaKodesh. 18 Anyone who serves the Messiah in this fashion both pleases God and wins the approval of other people. 19 So then, let us pursue the things that make for shalom and mutual upbuilding. 20 Don't tear down God's work for the sake of food. True enough, all things are clean; but it is wrong for anybody by his eating to cause someone to fall away.
Paul nor the Holy Spirit is double-talking nor teaching false doctrine by saying all things are clean, nothing is unclean, & everything created by God is good, and nothing received with thanksgiving needs to be rejected. It has been written. Please remember the bible was written in parts, line upon line precept upon precept so God kept revealing his will throughout time till he told John to write no more. Gen to Rev is the complete revelation of God. Noah and his sons were Gentiles & God told them they could eat anything in Genesis which is the 1st book of Torah. Then God told the children of Israel they couldn't eat just anything according to the law of Moses also Torah. Last & Finally, God told Christians we could eat anything in the new testament/covenant/Christ's law. Christians whether Jew or Gentile are not commanded to abstain from certain foods because of the law of Moses. Do you see the order of revelation from God? I pray this leads to understanding. God bless

No one can change GOD's laws, not even Paul. The items in question were never considered food to the Jewish people. In Genesis Adam and Eve ate something that GOD had forbidden, look what happened to the whole creation because of their disobedience. If our Almighty GOD said don't eat it, we should simply obey. If we don't obey then we are in rebellion.

The question at hand, Are all foods now clean? Answer, no.
Acts 15:29 "That ye abstain from meats offered to idols", not
exactly what Paul teaches, nor mentioned by Mr. Shulam in this
video. More importantly, Jesus the man followed Torah and
would not eat meat sacrificed to idols UNDER ANY
CIRCUMSTANCE and stated the law would never change.
Yet Jesus the spirit, (source of Paul's Gospel) says eating
idol meat is of no consequence to either JEW or Gentile
predicated solely on conscience, independent of the law.
Just one of so many conflicts between teachings of the
    true
apostles and Paul. For me Paul is suspect.

Throughout time in the past, God's word was being revealed through the fathers, prophets, Jesus, apostles & disciples piece by piece, line upon line, precept upon precept, book by book, epistle after epistle, & letter after letter. As God's word was being revealed by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit whether oral or written those who knew God made obedient adjustments which are written in the word of God. So after reading 1 Tim 4:1-5 Do not depart the faith, the Christian faith, the words taught by Jesus and the Apostles which the baptized Jewish believers on Pentecost continued in when the Church 1st begin with the saved Holy Spirit-filled believers & become guilty of the sin in the text by trying to teach Jews who are Christians to abstain from certain foods. The Holy Spirit says that teaching is a lie of hypocrisy when you use the old testament to tell Christian Jews they can't eat certain creatures when the Holy Spirit says those teachings are from seducing spirits & doctrines of demons. Attention all Christians, God says nothing is to be refused whether you're Jew or Gentile, you can eat any creature if you thank God for it, no creature is considered unclean for a Jew or Gentile who is a Christian. Jews and Gentiles are one new man as Christians-Eph 2:15. We are new creatures in Christ - Cor 5:17.

Thestronggoodmusic. God didn't say nothing is to be refused, Paul did, in HIS teachings. The Jews were given an EVERLASTING covenant with God, and the Law in the Torah COMMANDS which foods are lawful for Jews, and which are not. God does not change His mind, and Jesus taught He did not come to abolish the Law, and he said those who keep the Law, and teach others to keep it, will be great in the kingdom of heaven. He didn't say that after he dies on the cross, the Law no longer needs to be followed. People think because HE was able to keep the Law perfectly, WE don't have too. All we have to do is believe in Him, and then we don't have to follow the Law. Jesus never said that. Paul is taking a lot of liberty here. Not so sure I trust him..

@@pattyclifton7905 ---hmmm what version of the bible are you using I'm using the NASB which states in 1 Timothy ch 4 states
      For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;
5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.
Perhaps you are using another version that says nothing is to be refused. But each version I find even the Hebrew reads the same that the Holy Spirit says that which is in agreement with the Father and Jesus. Please read the epistles that Paul wrote and take a closer look at the book of Hebrews, the Holy Spirit says in chapter 7 it reads:
11 Now if perfection was through the Levitical priesthood (for on the basis of it the people received the Law ), what further need was there for another priest to arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be designated according to the order of Aaron? 12 For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also. 13 For the one concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.
      ------------------------------
Please tell me you see the words in vs 12. Please check back with me to see if God changed the law. The Holy Spirit says that a change of law was necessary because of Jesus. Don't overlook Jesus. Jesus fulfilled the law and he said the law wouldn't change till all be fulfilled. He did that. No Jews are taking sacrifices to the temple or offering sacrifices for their sins and no Levite can only minister in certain things regarding the temple and worship. We offer our bodies as living sacrifices on a daily basis to God. Jesus offered his body for our sins once and for all. There's no need for a high priest or day of atonement or a Sabbath where we would kill someone for picking up sticks. That's a change in the law. No Gentile is converting Judaism & no Gentile has to be circumcised anymore no one has to worship in the Temple in more. If you are then I can see why you think Christians are supposed to obey that law. No Jew or Gentile today has to go to Jerusalem for anything except vacation. We don't need the temple or that law. Christians are under the law of Christ not the law of Moses. I pray this leads to better understanding. Agape' God bless.

@@thestronggoodmusic I want to comment on two things you said. First you said, "Jesus fulfilled the law, and he said the law wouldn't change, til all be fulfilled." However, if you look closely at Mathew 5:17-19, in the ESV translation, Jesus says in verse 17, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them." He does NOT say that because He fulfilled them, we do not have to, as long as we believe in Him. He goes on to say in verse 18, "For truly I say to you, UNTIL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS AWAY, not an iota, not a jot, will pass from the Law, until all is accomplished." Heaven and earth have NOT passed away, so the Law is in place UNTIL HEAVEN AND EARTH PASS AWAY. This is my understanding from just a plain reading of the scriptures...My second point is regarding the verses you quoted in Hebrews. Whether Paul wrote Hebrews is questionable by most Bible scholars, but whoever did, I cannot find trust worthy. Why? Because this man cannot even quite Psalms correctly. In Hebrews 10:5, he CHANGES the wording of Psalms 40:6 when he quotes it. He quotes it as saying, "sacrifices and offering you have not desired, but a body you have prepared for me." But infact, Psalms 40:6 says, "sacrifices and meal offerings you have not desired; my ears you have opened, burnt offerings and sin offerings you have not required." How dare this man change the O.T. scriptures which are the Word of God! If this writer of Hebrews would intentionally misquote the Psalms, how can I trust anything else he has written?

@@pattyclifton7905 Jesus died to ratify his new covenant and he's the mediator of a new covenant, that's why the Law is the Old Covenant. Notice in Hebrews ch 9:15 For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgressions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. 16 For where a covenant is, there must of necessity be the death of the one who made it. 17 For a covenant is valid only when men are dead, for it is never in force while the one who made it lives.

hummmn, did you not see that Pauls writing was conditional on the food you eat being sanctified by the Word of Elohim ? In other words, what Elohim has sanctified as clean can be eaten, everything he has declared as unclean cannot be eaten, to do so willingly not only breaks his Word but defiles you. If you are not troubled by this then ignore this message.

I think if you re read Mat 15:11 you'll see Yeshua does not think it does.
"What goes into someone's mouth does NOT defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them"
He begins by addressing the food we eat that is processed in the gut and eliminated from the body. then he focuses on the real issues of the heart that does defile a person.
I think it's important to understand that Yeshua balanced the Torah with wisdom knowing which instruction carries more importance over another.
