Bridgepainter here. Have you thought of using a retractable safety line (30 feet) connected to your anchor? You feel like a dog on a leash because it constantly wants to retact inward all the time. But when it's pulled quickly (as in the case of falling) it will lock up immediately.
I think they have their proper place in construction, but not in roofing. They don’t prevent a person from falling over the edge. Suspension trauma is a serious hazard for folks awaiting their rescue. So we try to to create systems that prevent the need to ever be rescued. Good question.
