Climbing North Africa's Highest Mountain.. Toubkal, Morocco 🇲🇦

- Mount Toubkal, or Jebel Toubkal, is the highest mountain in Morocco and North Africa and the summit sits at an elevation of 4167 metres. The summit attempt is a solid high level hike in summer but is far trickier in winter when temperatures near the peak can reach -15c and snow and ice is treacherous. I saw this challenge as a fitting next step on my adventure journey, pushing myself past my previously defined limits and finding out what I’m really made of! I found the descent incredibly tough and did suffer from a level of altitude fatigue. This was all worth it though for the satisfaction of the challenge.
I highly recommend our guide Mohamed, who features in this video. If you are interested in him guiding you on a Toubkal trek you can contact him on his mobile +212 662-358661

Great video and congratulations on getting to the top and back to Imlil in two days 👏. I am not an experienced hiker but I completed this trek in blistering heat in August 2023 with four pals but we spread it over three days. Imlil to Mouflon Refuge on Day 1, Summit and back down to refuge on Day 2 and refuge back to Imlil on Day 3. Challenging but perfectly achievable for five guys in their 50s and 60s.
I was very much entertained and educated and left in awe at the stunning scenery and both of yours and Vicky’s efforts, well done and thank you for sharing your amazing trip.😊
Thank you for watching us climb to the gods!
@@WendallExplores Being vertically challenged I get vertigo climbing a ladder, so I bow to you with deepest respect.
@@ladygwarth just focus on the next step.. coming down was the worst
@@WendallExplores same on a ladder 😉
Wow! What an achievement!! Well done to you and Vicky for completing it, brave people 😮 Great memories for you both to share 👏
Brilliant vid oli, love your Cornwall stuff. But this change is very welcome. If i ever see you in cornwall on my hols next summer i definitely owe you a beer for all the entertainment over the last year or so i have been watching 👍👍
I appreciate this comment Dan, as most who subscribe for the Cornwall videos don’t want to watch the travel content 🤷♂️ No need to buy me a beer anymore, watch the previous video I’ve quit drinking 🤣 Glad you take joy from the channel 🙏
Good to see you nourishing the soul.
That’s quite an achievement Ollie , one of your best videos yet for me 👌🏼
Thanks Carl 🙏
Well done buddy. Looks like a nice little climb. 👍
Awesome mate, well done.
Well done 👍🏽 inspiring
Thought it was "where's Wolly" now its "where's Oli" 🤣.
He’s up a massive mountain bab!
Hey hey we’re the same age Wendall! 🙃 - well done!! The view looks amazing, breathtaking 😍
Quite honestly this was the first time in my life I did something that made me acutely aware that I was not young anymore!
Great video. Doing Toubkal in a month, so good to get an idea of the level of effort required, and the rewards on offer. Thanks for the video!
It is an incredibly rewarding experience
Thanks for sharing, well done.
Me and my wife hope to climb this mountain in November this year.....
We're both in our mid sixties!
Good luck!
Excellent achievement 👏 Did your legs ache the next day.
Couldn't walk for 3 days. I can't stress how difficult the descent was.
Great achievement Mr & Mrs wendall, coming down is harder on your body than going up, in my opinion.
I definitely missed out by viewing only your Cornwall based films.
Thanks for sharing!
Yeah descent way harder, and you are spent from climbing to summit too.. I learned that lesson! Thanks for watching 🙏
Great video, really enjoyed this walk
Thanks Isha, I really WORKED for this content 🥵
@@WendallExplores you sure did. Well done to you and Vicky
@@ishabrown Vicky could do a 6000 mountain, she is a natural climber
Thank you so much for this video. It is so useful. Congratulations for you, I'm going to do it May and I'm very excited as this will be my first high mountain. I will test my stamina in Snowdonia in Easter
I think May should be easier, good luck 💪
Amazing bro! The words of encouragement too! spot on.
Nice one mate what an achievement pal , stunning views🎉
So glad I did it, thank you
Amazing! What a fantastic experience 🙂
It sure was an amazing experience, thanks
Thanks for making the video. Great work 👏
Wow, I never thought about snow in Morocco. Is this part of the Atlas mountains? I did a hike in the Rif mountains in 2020 but I've never been to this area. Have you noticed how nearly every guy in Morocco is called either Muhammad, Mustafa or Abdul?
Yeah it’s in the high atlas, stunning place
I am from rifmountains and yeah my name is abdul aziz .But yeah muhammed is a very common name
Great video and congratulations on summiting. I hope you have many more. Well done.
Thanks 🙏
Omg oli that's a experience didn't expect snow was this recent
It was a challenge for sure Dean
@@WendallExplores totally different way of life new routine enjoy
More likely to have snow in Africa this Christmas time than Penzance
A recommended challenge for beginners. Bravo🤝
Yamas 👏
lol chris kamara legend
Thanks for the video Wendall. Never seen the mountains in Morocco, they look stunning. Personally I like these videos don't get me wrong I love the Cornwall content. Oddly this did not pop up like the other videos.
Glad you enjoyed this one. Morocco is a phenomenal place. Get used to this stuff as there will be very little Cornwall going forward 🤣 You weren’t shown this video as the algorithm thinks my viewers only want Cornwall videos 🤷♂️
Really enjoyed this..thank you for sharing 😊
Thank you, one of my favourite videos to film
Thanks Wendall i really enjoyed this Video really well filmed. Well done to you and Vicky. Spectacular views of the mountains such a beautiful place. Don’t think i could have done it. Think this was by far the best video you have done abroad.
Thanks for watching this one 🙏
Welkom to marooc
IT'S perfect ⛰️🏞️🌲🌳
well done great video .i love the mountains we often go to austria around zell am see where they have austrias highest peak Grossglockner at 3,798 metres and the views are amazing
Thanks for watching. There is something about the peace at that altitude 😮
Subscribed to Wendall now 😅
Good one
Hoping to do it early next summer
Thanks for joining the party 🎉 Enjoy your hike 🙏
Happy to watch this walk. I am never going to do it myself, as I get quite exhausted at altitudes of 2000 metres and above. I have visited places up to 3800 metres in Peru, and this autumn been walking in up to 2400 in Sierra Nevada, Spain. And I really felt the altitude. And I can hardly believe the pace you held up this mountain in Marocco. I enjoyed very much to watch this hike and the barren and powerful terrain. Happy to know you are both down again and that it all went well 😁
Next stop 5000m 💪 glad you enjoyed the video Torunn, its was a favourite to film and edit
@@WendallExplores you are obviously in pretty good shape, walking and talking like this at this pace thousands of metres above sea level 💪🏼🙏
@@TravellingTorunn I really struggled, you should have seen Vicky
Well done Wendell! I attempted it in 2022 and had really bad altitude sickness and stomach and could not go beyond the refuge! also showed me how unfit I had become during Covid! I need to go back and do it now that I’ve lost 15kgs, gone fitter and faster and can easily hike 15kms a day! Although a bad knee has now surfaced. I hated the dorm experience and would defo book private room! Oh btw…. Those inflated crisps bags are due to them being filled with inert nitrogen to preserve freshness in hot countries and creates an anaerobic environment inside the pckaging . :) btw, did you hire Mohammed privately?
I was there 3 times and it was amazing.
Yallah! ✊
You need to go to akchour, its next to chefchaoen
It's great experience i did this challange ❤
Great challenge, glad you enjoyed it
Nice video , would be interested in knowing your level of fitness / experience prior to doing this hike .
Great experience, which mountain will wendall conquer next ?
I think that may well be the last thing Wendall conquers Neil
Very nice. What month is?
November mate
Wow, amazing trip. Is Mohamed affiliated with a guide company, do they have a website i can check?
Mohamed is both affiliated and unafiliated, if you catch my drift 🤣
We booked through Toubkal Trekking. Dm me on insta if you need more info 👍
Great video. Well done,,,it definitely not for me. Stay safe
Get on up there! 🤣
Nice, what month did you go?
I think id like a holiday at the hotel California in Newquay instead..
'My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim I had to stop for the night' ! hahaha
Great video. Hard to find though, even if you’re looking for it
‘Hard to find even if your looking for it’… great! 🤣
Thanks for searching for it 🙏
Yammin on….this must be higher than the Rotunda….
What month did you go?
Well done but not showing the view from the top with camera was a bit disappointing just to take a few mins to show would of been amazing of the top but u r a nice guy thank you.
It was so cold at the top and we were physically exhausted, even holding the camera up there was mummifying my hands, plus I had some altitude sickness up there and wasn’t in a stable frame of mind
Hi good video, what time of year was this done. We are booked in to climb in in May 23
Filmed in November. It will be very different in May. Harder in the valley, probably easier up the mountain.
@@WendallExplores it will be our first test of Altitude before we do the Everest Base camp walk in November,
@@paulyweston8648 I haven’t done EBC trek but I plan to. IMO climbing Toubkal will be physically harder in a short space of time, it’s a bit rushed IMO. I believe EBC will be more of a war of attrition.. you’ll have to keep pushing slightly every day. Good luck! Positive mental attitude ✊
Great video. I’m climbing Toubkal in August so thanks for reminding me just how challenging it will be. Four months to get in shape!
Great video mate. What time of year did you climb ? Sorry if I missed that. Looks like am epic adventure. Cheers.
November mate
Would you recommend for someone with below average fitness level?
Absolutely not
@@TheKingKlan top of the world
Erratic camera movement but I’m wanting to do this hike in February so im putting up with it, 8 mins in.
Thank you for putting up with my video 🤣
@@WendallExplores I enjoyed it mate, I’m going to book all my bits tomorrow 🤝
@@panda4413 give Mohamed a shout he will do you proud as a guide 👍
@@WendallExplores what did he charge you for the trip?
@@panda4413 I think like €130 per person roughly, includes the guide, all food and 1 night accommodation at the refuge but extra gear is more € They also picked us up and dropped us back in Marrakech by taxi included in that
Bro are still there in imlil
I’m gone, but Mohamed will still be there!
Did you take any diamox at all for altitude?
No wasn’t recommended to. I think if E ascent had been a little slower paced, I would have been better
Everest next Wend 👍🏼
Maybe Kilimanjaro next 🙏
