Biggest waste of tax payer monies. Complete bullshit. They said the East span of Bay Bridge bridge was "unsafe" after Loma Prieta earthquake. So what did they do? 24 years after the fact, they finally release the new cable stayed suspension bridge. Sure, the new bridge is beautiful, and probably safer than the old span. People still continued to drive on the old span for nearly 2 1/2 decades on a "defective" bridge however! Look, if you can continue to use the old bridge for a quarter century, there's nothing wrong with it! Stop being politically correct about everything! The fact that the bridge continued to perform FLAWLESSLY for a quarter century after the fact proved there was nothing fundamentally unsafe about it. That one portion that fell down during the earthquake was just a fluke. The rest of the bridge was fine. The bridge stood the test of time.
