As a student of classical guitar, we were all influenced by Segovia. Maestro’s mission was to expand the repertoire of the guitar- he arranged the Bach Chaconne amongst other important works for guitar which bursts its medium, scope, and public perception of the instrument. For me as a student of flute, Maestra Choi further bursts the boundaries of the instrument with her transcription of this Sarasate masterpiece. Bravo!!!
Again, and as far as I'm concerned, Jasmine Choi proves one of the musical wonders of the world. I can only wonder if there's ever been a flutist with a repertoire of such breadth and range as hers. Perhaps, but then I think certainly not at so young an age. And lucky us, how many more wonders in store from her? Truly, she's one of those blessings we can only marvel at, and then thank our lucky stars for.
I don't do the "Who's better" game, never have. But I know which artists I like best and why. Is Ms. Choi "better" than, say, Rampal or Galway? At such high levels of playing, there's no measuring who plays better. One can only know which of them speaks more directly to oneself. As for my own self, most times I'll prefer Ms. Choi on any given piece. Why and how so? Warmth of tone, her immersion in the piece, the extensiveness and difficulty of her repertoire, the braver liberties she takes, her relaxation, her lack of formal insistence, her surprising where the others don't and doing it more often, her own musical sensibilities more in unison with my own than, again, say, Rampal's or Galway's. Pahud is good. So was Herbie Mann. Lots and lots of fine flutists out there, and of all stripes and colors.

I just had grilled zigeunerweisen for supper. Seriously, this piece is a long time favorite of mine. I am more familiar with the violin version, but I certainly won't complain about the flute version.

Hello it dousnt really matter if you see this or not. But I just want to say I love the way you played this piece. I love the part at 9:22 . Words cannot express how I feel when I hear this amazing sound at 9:22. And not just at that point everywhere in this piece is to good it calms me and at the end it really gets into it really is amazing. You did an amazing job!! This is now my dream piece to play if I ever get good enough. I hope that im able to get lessons before I end highschool and get better and better and be like you. 10년전? 쯤 고등학생때 페이스북으로 부족한 그림실력으루 최나경선생님 그려드렸던 학생입니다. 기억하실련지 모르겠네요 ㅎㅎ 그때 2년전공 후 대학진학은 무사히했으나 부족한 가정형편에 아버지 편찮으셔서 요양 병원비 때문에 플룻 팔고 병원비에 보태고 음악 포기 후 열심히 가장으로서 지금은 다른 일을 하고 있습니다. 그때 마다 선생님의 연주를 자주 들으며 과거 내가 좋아서 시작했던 플룻 소리에 심취하며 카르멘, 라이네케, 찌고르바이젠은 주기적으로 듣고 갑니다.. 정말 음악은 사람의 마음을 움직이는 힘이있다고하는데 선생님의 연주는 과거를 회상하게 되는 만큼 너무 큰 힘이 있는 것 같습니다! 지금은 그래도 좀 잡혀가고있으면서 시간이 여유 있어 취미로라도 플룻을 하고 있네요 ㅎㅎ 나중에 현재 형편이 나아지면 늦더라도 꼭 전공을 다시 해보려고합니다 ㅎㅎ 항상 좋은 음악 들려주셔서 삶의 원동력이 되고있어요 감사합니다♥︎
