  • So after roughly 4 years of doing Rocket League RUclips full-time, I've decided it's time for me to step away from the game and try something new. I've been playing a bunch of different games recently and would love to start working on uploading those somewhere instead, but at this point, Rocket League just isn't for me. Thank you to the Rocket League community for everything

Ok, I have never been an active community member, more of a lurker, but I think you should not go to another channel with content other than Rocket League. The name of the channel is Thanovic, not Thanovic Plays Rocket League or else. Some people may have come here for Rocket League, but definitely most of them stayed for you. Of course, the final decision is yours, but my opinion is - new content here, and not somewhere else on RUclips. The more you express yourself with your content, the better - thanks much for everything 😁

Reach into new games now and explore all kinds of fun content (definitely do them on this channel, it will really help with your growth going forward) I believe that Rocket league has always held back your true potential, as you are a fantastic creator! I feel you man on all of this, you saved yourself a ton of turmoil if you kept forcing yourself to keep going on RL for years to come. I've reached some ridiculous levels of insanity after 13000+ hours & I had some similar feelings to you years ago & just never stopped. I'm in a better spot now with the game personally but the short moments of enjoyment don't really outweigh the monotony, you're a smart guy for realizing that early & I wish you the best of luck on your job hunt & branching out into different areas of content. What made you a successful content creator isn't the game nor your community but your personality and the way you looks at things.
Even though I wasn't a RL content creator I played this game for years, peaked at GC before it became F2P and quit for the same reasons. Sometimes you had enough and it's time to move on.
When I used to play this game I really enjoyed your content and your attitude was refreshing which made me come back for more.
So, something ends but something else begins ! I'm sure you have all you need in order to transition to something that makes you happier and more fulfilled. Success is not a matter of luck but hard work and patience. You created a succesful channel, you'll most likely will succeed in your transition as long as you keep believing in yourself. This is completely natural and healthy and is a consequence of game-play loop style games.
What happens is, eventually, you hit a point where you feel like either you cant reasonably get better than where you are, or that to do so requires more work than its worth, AND that where you are leaves little left to discover.
Id reckon that youre about as good as it gets without going pro. Short of going competitive professionally, there isnt really anything left for you to do.
Id say that the fact a game with a 5m game loop and absolutely no narrative could get 6,000hrs of your time and enjoyment before you sort of chewed through it is a testiment to how awesome of a game it truly was.

I stopped played ranked about 2-3 seasons ago, but I actually still play rocket league on the regular. However, it's not even casual, it's just private matches. Me and 3-5 of my friends still meet once or twice a week online and just have random team setup private matches. No organization or set teams, everyone just hits auto assign and we play private matches against each other. This has never gotten old and we've been doing it since 2020 (although some of us have been playing rocket league itself since 2017). The hilarity that ensues when someone makes a brutal mistake or the OHHs that occur when someone hits a sick shot never gets old. Sometimes we all use wacky car setups, or we'll do random settings as well, but most times it just casual 2v2 and 3v3 matches against each other. I just wanted to leave this comment because in an era where it's almost trendy to leave rocket league, I wanted to shine some light on people who are still enjoying it. Wish you all the best Thano!

I too hate this game. It’s a struggle, everyones getting better, and I hate being stuck in C1 as a Season 6 GC. I know how much effort it would take to get back up to a place where I’m happy, and the only reason i even start it up is because of Stockholm syndrome, and the fact that I haven’t found another game that captures even a bit of the initial spark that led me to drop almost 4k hours into carsoccer.
That said, I really like the idea of you taking your “100 hours” ideas etc. and translating them to other games. Look at Spiffing Brit, he makes random games seem so interesting with his personality and his “exploits” approach, that people watch for him more so than any particular game.

You should definitely keep uploading new content on this channel. You’ve worked hard for what you built sure some people are only here for RL content but I think you are underestimating yourself. I stopped playing rocket league over a year ago and still watch a good bit of your videos. If anything opening up your content will probably allow you to grow quicker and reach more people you wouldn’t have reached if you stuck to one game.

I know how you feel man. I haven't actually played a game of Rocket League in about 2 years now (I haven't even opened it since November, and that was just to check how many hours played I had in-game (which only counts actual playtime, whereas Steam counts sitting in the menu as playtime)). Still watch RL content creators on RUclips, but I just have zero desire the play the game.
Best of luck, hopefully the new videos are just as good!

Hey Thanovic! I know im a bit late to this video and I dont typically comment on videos, but I have been watching your channel for a while, (back when you were doing the 100 hours videos) and I have loved watching your videos on RL! But I really think you should definitely dip your toes into something different and get out of the comfort zone! do anything you want! whether its Minecraft, or Track Mania or something else! You are a great content creator and keep your head up and I'm sure a lot of us will follow along whichever direction you decide to go with the channel!

I am sorry to see you go, but I completely understand your reasons for quitting. Unfortunately if you upload other content, I will not be interested. I will still check in on you from time to time to see what you are creating. I respect your viewpoints and logic as a gamer; I am sure you will do well at whatever you decide. If I like your content I will resubscribe. I am a little sad to see you go, and myself. But I wish you good luck, and hope to stay subscribed to you!

It's been said all over the other comments, but I would recommend sticking with the same channel even if the content changes. Pivoting from Rocket League to other games isn't a big shift in the grand scheme of things. I bet a lot of people will be interested to see a talented gamer try other games, see how you learn, practice, what games you like, etc.
Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

  • @girhen

I normally play a game for 2-4 months and quit. I've played RL for 7 years.
Most pro sports players probably play their game 3-5 hours a week of actual play, and hours of standing around for their turn (NHL on bench, MLB hitting on bench, NFL defenders while on offense, etc). Practice for pro players is only a few hours a week as well in gear. Strength training and cardio are further from playing the game than having a controller in hand doing freeplay.
eSports and content creation is just different. Loading the game for 8-14 hours a day is a fanatically different beast from playing a few hours a week and practicing a bit more than that. It's really not a wonder that people eventually move on or take a break, and there's nothing wrong with it.

At about 3k a few years ago I took 2 years off. Did wonders for me. I'm now almost at 4k and feeling the burn again. If you haven't got something you're actively training or playing with friends, this game will feel stale very very quickly. Don't feel bad about "giving up", you're not. You've recognised the end of the road and are looking for other fulfilling things, which is smart. Rocket League isn't going to be around forever, and at its current state, it'll be gone in a few years. Branching out now is objectively a good idea, Thano.
I miss the OG seasons, pre-Epic, when the game still felt like it had community and life. It's soulless now.

There is nothing wrong with moving on to something new to find a new path. Sometimes we get to the end of a path and don't know where to go and we have to give ourselves permission to let that be ok. Sometimes it happens with something in a few days, weeks, or months, and sometimes it takes years. No matter where you are when you reach the end it's ok.
