Did you see how fast the officer got in target and fired? The airman could have also engaged that quickly. Anyone could. Saying it wasn't pointed is meaningless. Going from not pointing to pointing and firing takes under a second.

Coming from a tactical point of view and what I was told in the army and my criminal justice instructors in college. But just to maybe explain why the officer did that, tactically it’s incredibly dangerous to stand in-front of closed doors or doorways especially if theres view ports like peephole’s or windows. This is just a bad situation. You should be able to answer your door with a gun in hand if someone is pounding on it. Doubly so if you haven't done anything and aren't expecting it to be a police officer. The officers voice sounds loud when he announces because he's on a breezeway, but the victim would have a hard time hearing that announcement from the back of the apartment. It's just a sad situation.

This wasn't some thug this was a trained Airman. The cop gave no order to disarm before shooting and also the gun wasn't pointed in his direction.
