I made a slight editing mistake: the date between 15:17 and 18:10 should read the 23rd of June 1942. Sorry about that. Timestamps are in the description. I also posted this earlier, but I’ll copy it here in case you didn’t see the post: In my opinion, the video has turned out okay all things considered. Obviously, it would have been much better had I not been let down… And I’ll let you guys decide if the lack of animations is tolerable. I did end up adding in one or two (as well as many camera movements) just because it was necessary to tell the story. But I just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you who commented in the recent video (as well as the 20 or so of you who became Patreons in response). Many of you were saying you could wait for the video, and that I should enjoy my Christmas with my friends and family. However I personally couldn’t wait any longer. Someone said: “If he is anything like me it will be more painful to see the family and friends knowing I could be sorting it out. Not saying it’s a good thing but I think I get why he’s doing it.” And that’s precisely it. I did work Christmas Day, but it was actually enjoyable for me because I was working towards fixing the problem that had been hanging over me for many weeks. Imagine training for months to run a race, only to fall at the final hurdle because someone else tripped you up. You put in all that work, all that effort, and everyone turned up waiting for you to finish, and you didn’t finish. A complete waste. There’s no way I could even think of anything else until I’d gotten back up and ran that race again, finishing it this time, as outright failure is not an option for me. I don’t know how else to explain it, but the last thing I want is to be on my deathbed knowing I could have done more with my life, but didn’t. Time is the only thing you cannot get back. And that’s the worst thing about this whole situation - this video could have been out months ago. I could be part-way through the animation process for the First Battle of El Alamein by now. I’m massively behind my potential, and that’s time I will never get back. That's what's so frustrating.
This axis campaign reveals an operational flaw in Wehrmact thinking. In USSR and North Africa, the Axis offensives contnued to culmination. Culmination, btw, is bad and deserves its own video.

The lack of fancier animations wasn't really noticeable, for me at least. You were right in your earlier video - we're here for the history, not flashy animations. If you're unable/unwilling to find a replacement editor, I don't think there's any issue with future Battlestorms having a simpler format.

I agree with @4nthr4x As they say, 'content is King" I think 'bells and whistles' animations are over-rated and tend to a dumbing down of war to the level of video games. I appreciated this presentation and the drawing from multiple sources before a rational discussion of causes of events and why certain decisions were taken.

Honestly, you're so good and engaging in telling this, I was well beyond half way point when I suddenly remembered this is the one where there's no animations. Conclusion: your former animator/editor/whatever they were, was useless. You got this. This video is 100% as good as the previous ones. Your attention to detail and your performance, the quality of your delivery, is what makes these videos excellent. I suspect next to nobody misses the extra fluff. Keep up the quality research and thanks for making these so interesting!
@@IlmariHiltunen Definitely agree. It's noticeable when TIK is showing a large map and talking about some specific unit on the map. In older videos where would be some animation to indicate which specific unit was being discussed, while in this one you need to read through the markings and figure it out yourself. The lack of movement animation is less of a problem to me. Given the amount of time TIK had though, and the fact this video is nearly 2 hours long, it's still a notable accomplishment.

I think you did a great job TIK. The info is great and with a lot of depth. So I didn't worry about the lack of animation. Quite glad you managed to do this before 2025. Thanks for all the effort.
That was a fantastic presentation, it was comprehensive and fair. By June of 1942, the Axis held the initiative in Africa, Russia, Burma, and the Southwest Pacific. That was soon to change, like flipping a coin. Midway, El Alimein, Guadalcanal, New Guniea, Stalingrad take that initiative away.

The 150th Brigade, 50th Northumbrian Division, my grandfather, said that moral had collapsed before the battle of Gazala. Never the less, they fought like Lions until they were overrun. My grandfather saw the battle unfold from outside of the box on a small escarpment with his bren on a tripod for light air defence. Bravo Sir! I cannot think of any other military historian who can digest the volume of books for gathering so much information, correlate it, create the artwork and then tell the overall narrative in such a comprehensive way than you do about WW2. I really love your style of doing the video artwork using different colored arrow lines, circles and squares along with the tactical explosions and aircraft symbols over the older style that always had the annoying constant flashing of units firing at each other which was a distraction of seeing the battle map while you are describing the situation. AAA+++

Great job TIK! Honestly the "lack of animations" are unnoticeable. Btw there should be a key framing ability with the majority of editing software that's out there, including Adobe Premiere, Blender and FCP. If you want to give your try at "key burns" animation for your pictures and graphics. I understand you were under a tight deadline though with the unfortunate situation you were placed in. Again, congrats and I wish you luck with all of this in the future. Excellent content, as per the usual.
You did it TIK! Sure, the fancy graphics & rumbling music do add, but we're here for the history & your improvisations were fine. Happy New Year from Canberra, all the best for 2025 L. 🇦🇺
TBH, I did not miss the animations. The information, the research and the clear exposition are way more important. Also, two details that might seem secondary, but they are not: the wonderful and clear locution and your voice tone. I have heard too many RUclipsrs that make me want to use a power drill on my own ears, but you are a pleasure to listen to.
Great work on this one Tik. I think the format is fine. I'd say I prefer it to previous videos, it seems more direct and more engaging. Keep up the excellent work, I really enjoyed this one.

it's easier than it sounds, WAY easier than even half a battlestorm episode
Thank you for the video. I did not miss the animation.
Thank you, TIK. Now I’m starting to realise what have actually happened in the North Africa and why Rommel is highly regarded to this day. British helped a lot with creating the story of Desert Fox but nevertheless, he was indeed a good commander.
Wish you all best in the new year, can’t wait for next battlestorm!
Hey TIK, I just wanted to say that you’ve done an amazing job with this video through all of the difficulties you faced. I honestly didn’t notice the lack of animations so I am fine if you leave them out of future videos. Can’t wait for the next video on what ever topic you choose but I hope you can take some time now to keep from burning out.
Thank you lad you are the History Goat on RUclips
Top tier history content as always. The sheer amount of detail, backed up by proper referencing, puts almost every other history youtuber to shame.
You are the best RUclipsr for WW2 and Politics topics.. Please keep up your good work!!! Sorry about your animator issues
I don't know, I seem to feel like this is the original TIK style from when I started watching. I'm perfectly happy with this.
Thanks TiK, considering the setbacks you've had, the quality of your work is superb. Respect.
love your battlestorm series, glad you managed to finish this episode despite the troubles
Well done Tik. The high quality content is far more important than the graphics. Thank you for putting this up.
Normally on release like this I’d say Christmas has come early but considering the circumstances, I’ll just say how much we appreciate all your hard work TIK. Thank you 🙏🏻
Great job TIK!
Thank you Tik!!
Excellent documentary.
Quality content is the key.
I agree, he is great with his quality in all videos
I love the strategic considerations discussed here on "June 23" -- What the British were considering as priority for defence - Malta vs. Suez vs. other considerations. Love the content TIK!
Man, so much as I love your videos, to know the price you are paying leaves me with some kinda sour-sweet flavour. Please let this be your last video until the Christmas season is over. Much love and respect from Spain.
Great to see you getting this video out. Wouldn't mind seeing this "cut down" version of these battles if it makes things easier on you. You seem to have so much on your plate that I wouldn't mind at all and I'm sure most of your fans also. And please, try and get some rest ever so often. Don't want to see something bad happen to you.
That was brilliant. Who cares about "animations"? The content was spot on, and I didn't even miss them.
Nicely done, and the animations are clear enough for me. You even had time to give Freyberg a bandaged head!
Thanks TIK! 🙏🙏. I still found this format enjoyable, well researched & interesting! Perhaps you can cut back a bit on some of the animations, might save you a lot of time?!
I'm astonished. How've you done this in such a short time? Amazing.
Great job TIK! Thank you so much for all your efforts!!! I truly appreciate all your hard work. This was a great undertaking and you nailed it.
