    Nice to see a younger fella pick up the torch from us older guys, who worked on such motors when they were new . Old flat head Tecumseh and Briggs and Stratton motors good quality, and built to last with a little tlc. I'm still running all flat heads and some opposed twins as well. Great video! looking forward to the next one

    These were awesome old generators. I just picked up a WinCo that's very similar for $75. The generator is a little different and this one runs at 1800 rpm so it's super quiet.

    I got one for $25. Cleaned carb and runs great. Sometimes a pain to start but eventually starts. Runs my 12” ridgid miter saw. I mainly got it because it’s vintage

    I just bought a very similar genset in similar condition yesterday. The motor is marked 10 hp. and has both rope start and electric start. The generator is a Dayton unit rated at 4000 watts. The motor would be loafing at about 50% power at 4 kw. The paint has not cooked off the cooling fins, and the engine has seen so little time the identical muffler still has a little silver paint on it. The cart is also identical, and also has casters, so that was apparently retail. It's nice to know that my guess of about 1960 was pretty close.

    Very cool video
    Just scored a 1980 9hp Briggs & Stratton that was a display model never saw gas or oil ....the man owned a hardware store and had a barn full of brand new engines in the box....I was like a kid in a candy store at his estate sale....only had 100 cash on me when my buddy convinced me to go with him...got a blue hole canoe and the motor...plus a good old fashion spark plug cleaner....take that 2020 good things still happening
    Without wearing a stupid mask lol

      Good score. Thats the best place to find vintage engines in good shape at a great price! I don't know how many engines he had or what kind, but it sounds like the kinda place I would have left with outleast a half dozen engines from. Theirs certain years, models and brands I would have been on the look out for. Old cast Irons, etc. Theirs value in those older engines now.

      Thanks, yea that generator was awesome. It ran so much smoother and steadier that any generator made in the last 30 years. It had cool features. If it had 5000 watts of running power I'd of kept it but 3500 was a little to low for it being that size. I baught it for $100 and sold it for $600 to a man in Kansas, he's taking good care of it, but sometime's I wish I still had it. It was also a tri-fuel it easily switched from gas, to natural gas or propane another cool fearure. 1958 That was an antique it weighed close to 200 pounds. Thanks for the comment.

    I have it's little & bigger brother. Mine's a 2500 W with a model 14FB Briggs. Glad to hear you're keeping it together rather than parting it out. Too many people doing that (parting them out) trying to make quick dollars these days & very soon there will be no complete units of the older vintages left. I also have a later model Winco with a 10 hp model 243431 cast iron Briggs powering it. I believe it's a 4500 W ? It has provision to connect a 12V vehicle battery to the generator for electric start.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh  7 лет назад

      auburnfolsom Thats intetesting considering a model 14 is a smaller engine compared to a 23. Model 14's 6-7 horsepower range, 2500 watt sounds about right, generates less power. Should be a little smaller, same size maybe.
      Their was really no point in parting this motor out. Plus most of the important parts can still be ordered from Briggs.
      Didmantling a machine that old in that condition would have been a foolish move.
      I sold that generator a couple months after that video. That one was originally in a farmhouse basement hooked up and powered by natural gas. With a Winco approved safe setup. When it was removed from the basement the fuel tank was added for it to run off gasoline. These were also capable of running off propane. They were made to run tri-fuel even way back than, like now. Cant beat the sound of a cast iron block generator. Much less rattling and noise compared to aluminum block generators.
      Its has a good home in Kansas now among an engine collector, so that machine should be around for a very long time to come.

  • @Mr_Tecumseh

    This engine is a single cylinder L head, air cooled, its Bore is 3", stroke 3,1/4, its Displacement is 22.97 cu. in.= 376.4 cc, 9 horsepower at 3600 rpm and 15.75 foot pounds torque at 2400 rpm, as I said in one of the video's the engine is a beast.

    Running a free wheeling grinder motor is no test for a generator but it is still a nice gen.

    • @Mr_Tecumseh
      @Mr_Tecumseh  2 года назад +1

      No, it's not a very in-depth test, however it does test that the machine works and verifies it at the most basic level that was my first RUclips video filmed in who's at 2014 or 2015 I've come a long way since then. Thanks for stopping by might want to head up towards the newer ones they get a lot better. Some of the most latest ones might not be a year style but the newer Small engine ones would.

  • @Mr_Tecumseh
    @Mr_Tecumseh  9 лет назад +3

    *UPDATE* In the video I say that the generator is a 1963 model year. That information is incorrect. One way to tell right away is the Briggs logo on the front of the engine with the patent's was last used in 1959. Therefore it has to be a "59 or earlier. After contacting WINCO they gave me the correct information the generator was manufactured in August of 1958! Winco also sent me the original operators manual for the generator and I got the engine manuals from Briggs I now have all the original documents and it has been verified the generator is a 1958. Thank you.

      Ramon Velazquez Wow, it's being shipped from the state's to Puerto Rico? What service are they using to ship it? I imagine it's a bit pricey to ship one of these down their right? I had a hard time shipping the one I had from New Jersey to Kentucky. I finally found a good trucking company to ship it down their. It had to go by truck, freight terminal to terminal. It was about $150 to ship it stateside. I hope the seller is able to get it shipped down their and at a reasonable rate. Let me know what service is used and ballpark price, I just might start using them to ship large items in the future myself as well.

I pray to God and God talked to his heart and told him Do it" later he confess that to me during the deal .Then i came to see your video and i cant believe i got one. I have 3 3500 W Dayton 9hp model 233400 Briggs powered generators. 2 of them are direct drive (generator coupled directly to the engine) & one is a belt drive. The generators are different on both the direct drive units. One appears to be a Winco-like generator. The other is a lower quality generator unit similar to a Homelite style. The belt drive also appears to be a Winco-like generator.

      auburnfolsom The older Homelite products when Textron owned them were quality made products. Homelite bought out Jacobsen and Jacobsen made top notch equipment. They started dropping in quality a few years later. Homelite is made by united Technologies now, their products are no where near what they used to be. The textron made stuff is descent.

      Yet still quieter than any L head aluminum block generator. Those old cast Iron blocks kept a lot of vibration and internal noise in, that an aluminum block wouldn't. To bad briggs is not allowed to build and sell cast iron block engines in the USA anymore, epa regulations..... They build and sell these engine's in Southeast Asia though still and they still look nearly the same, except modern electronic ignition. Pretty crazy.
      All L head engines including the Quantum last sold last year, now everything including your Toro mowers, all have the Chinese made OHV Briggs, the Quantum had a 35 year run, sad that it had to end.

      You have a nice generator. I like that big painted decal on yours. Yours was made specifically for the homeowner dealing with a power outage. I have seen one other identical unit to yours on youtube recently. The unit I have was designed to be used by construction crews or people who planned to run these very frequently. Mine came out of a farmhouse basement and was originally hooked up by natural gas and ran the power for the farm house (reason why its gas tank does not match, it was swapped to gasoline later).
      If you contact Briggs they will tell you the DOM of your engine is and give you a link to it's manuals and Winco can give you the DOM the generator was built and the manuals for the unit.
      If antique and rare tractors are your thing you should check out this one I have and use as my regular full time mower to this day.

      The man who bought that engine collects old engines, he watched the video before he bought it. He would have been the first one to tell me if it sounded like the engine was being over revved, trust me.
      Not sure how familiar you are with model 23 cast Iron blocks, but that engine was not being overspeed. Their is no reason for it to be. Its producing its maximum amount of electricity at 3600 rpm. You better go back and listen to it again, watch a few videos of these engines running at 3600 and get familiar with their sound so your not on here telling people their engines are being abused. No one with an antique like that would appreciate it, I sure don't, the man who bought it wouldn't. Go to a small engine show and tell one of those guys their over speeding their engines and their going to look at you like your crazy. Like whats this guy talking about..
