- A chapter from our full length DVD " THE HARD COAL ROADS: what went wrong"
Railfan Railroad Magazine Writes:
“Much of the film has hard to find footage, and is high quality. This collection surpasses anything that I have seen for the first three railroads. The colors are accurate, and the images and the trains seem to jump off the screen. A meticulous producer, location awareness is always a priority. Extremely interesting and has the rarity factor. In short, this exemplary show is a must have!”
This is 1 hour and 40 minutes of five featured railroads that have disappeared along with highlights from three other regional railroads that faced the same fate.
The closing chapter brings the beginning of Penn Central and its rapid failure that swept up the other roads in their northeast. This is a large slice of US railroading history with many "moving parts" -- from a lost but colorful era.

Grew up in Newark behind Seton Hall University.
My buddies and I used to play hooky from grammar school and ride the Erie Lackawanna electrics from the South Orange station to fishing points west.
Yup flattenin' pennies the whole 9 yards .
Made friends with Whitey an engineer. Used to ride in the cab with him.
Oh the memories. What a different time the 70's.
