    It's just so satisfying to build a DIY kit instrument. The most time consuming (and fun) part is creating a headstock. Let me show you how I've built a DIY bass for the awesome Julia Hofer, my co-host on the Thomann's Guitars and Basses channel.
    -Thomann blog that explains the DIY Kit Challenge challenge:

    -Thomann's #DiyKitChallenge release video (Warning: it's a pretty funny video):

    ** Why the Anzeige (=Ad) message? **
    According to german laws everyone has to mark their videos as advertisements as soon as there's a single "subject relevant" product, tag or link in it. Even if you didn't get paid for making that video. Sounds confusing and it really doesn't help the viewer to see which is a paid review and which isn't.
    --- The line of truth: Is this actually a paid review? No it isn't. (I update this line for every video).

      @@KrisBarocsi Usually when a guitarist picks up a bass you can tell right away that they are a guitarist. Guitarists don't normally have the rhythmic discipline required to be a bassist (I'm not issuing a blanket statement here, it's just a typical trait I see when a guitarist demos a bass). Your chops are solid. It's a really lovely line you wrote over the drum backing too that helped showcase the bass properly. Basically if you hadn't mentioned being a guitarist, and my not having seen anything of yours before, I wouldn't have known you weren't a bassist! Having played bass for about 22 years I am not easily fooled :)
      You've also inspired me to clear out the shed and buy a HB p-bass kit and have a go at making one myself, you made the shaping of the headstock look like an achievable task and the rest looks simple enough. I have my Dad's old woodworking tools which I can clean up and put to some good use. So thanks for your video Kris, I'll definitely be checking out more of your content!

    The bass came out ok. But it was a bit skimpy on detail like did you ground the bridge and /or tailpiece? I know this was a rush job but the body could have been finished/customized without too much trouble. So for producing a working bass, you get a thumbs up. On looks ⤵

    • @KrisBarocsi
      @KrisBarocsi  3 года назад +1

      Hey Dave, I show and even mention the bridge grounding at 7:25. 👍 You can see how I walk away, grab a knife and unshield the ground wire for better connection.
      About finishing the body: I literally had one afternoon to shoot a video on this before sending the bass to Julia. If I finish an instrument I wanna be 100% that it looks great. Simply putting one layer on it, without preparation and without buffing it would have made it look pretty disappointing.
      That’s the reason for not even trying. :) cheers

    She should do the demo and later have someone modify it within an inch of its life. Have them do something ridiculous to it like what Henning Pauly did to his Harley Benton Les Paul style guitar.

      Absolutely yes! The only issue is the shipping time I guess. I’m sure Thomann will do another diy challenge at one point, hopefully with a longer building time limit (check the details in the description box). Cheers

    I just can't cope with that headstock profile. I might could get jiggy with something else. Maybe a different hack. Something that could whip me up. I recall when my band saw something that we liked. Maybe we should start a chain for ideas.

    is there anyone in the marker selling a diy kit that includes manuals of how to set up a guitar?
    yesterday i grabbed an Epi LP special ii, and it had THE MOST comfortable neck i have felt in 17 years, and have concluded that none of my guitars are set properly. 😲

    • @KrisBarocsi
      @KrisBarocsi  3 года назад +1

      I know something even better than a manual. Check out the Guitar Tech Tips playlist on the Thomann‘s Guitars and Basses channel. All the steps of guitar setups is there. Cheers!

    • @0000song0000
      @0000song0000 3 года назад

      I am still at shock, because honestly i dont consider the special ii a pretty guitar, and it has cheap components... yet now i am considering either shaving my necks or substituting em with “slim d” profiles.

      Hey Paul, just a waterslide decal paper I bought online (prob. ebay). You print on it, put some acrylic finish on it, cut it out, put it in water and slide it off. Simple and awesome. Cheers!

    Nice video! You got a really nice body! That body with a good sanding and an oil finish will be awesome

  • @gott2585
    @gott2585 3 года назад

    The strings are a bit offset against the neck and the pickup. You should mount the neck first and than you have to find the right position of the bridge and pickup/pickguard. It looks very easy for the beginners to build a guitar in your video, but in fact you need a bit more accuracy to build it properly.
