This cuts the current satire "The Royals" a million ways to Sunday. I've watched the whole thing countless times and am delighted to find it again. Terrific acting, subtle satire. Brilliant and hilarious.
a superb british royal family, specially the king richard's role very wvedell played all others too did very well.well done to the whole team. i loved every moment of the series.
Crazy to think the actress who plays Princess Eleanor actually marries into the royal family!! She’s married to Lord Fredrick Windsor, who is the son of Prince Michael of Kent!
I love this show, it's ridiculous. If the monarchy was actually like this then i'd probably bloody like them more x Proud to be English despite every one of its flaws x

Thank you for sharing - However, I find it hard to believe that a Price would be so surprised to become the new King. He would've been groomed since birth that this was his destiny and while maybe he'd be 'set back' by the death of his father it's not as though he shouldn't have expected it. Maybe the next episode will improve but so far this is crap.
as to the point about the prince's reaction to the news that he has inherited the throne - perhaps he had imagined he would take on the role in 40 years time.
@Kathleen Flacy I don't think that law of succession was in action at the time. At the time that this was first shot, the succession law was probably male-preference primogeniture.
In the late 1940s-early 1950s, whenever the then Princess Elizabeth traveled abroad (outside the United Kingdom) she was well-aware of her father's ill health and though it might have seemed calculated to a non-royal person, always packed a suitcase full of black mourning clothes. This included her trip to South Africa with Prince Philip, where they were staying at Treetops Hotel and observing the wild animals, when they received news of the death of the king. Though "The Palace" is fictional, Richard's father is regarded as being in good physical condition and expected to live for at least 20 years more. The present Queen was born in 1926 and her heir apparent, Prince Charles was born in 1948, and is now nearly 20 years older than Edward the Seventh was when he inherited the throne in 1901 after HIS mother's reign of 63 years. The fictional Richard is only in his early 20s and very immature, not to mention unprepared for the rigors of constitutional monarchy.
I very....much enjoyed the segment of Queen Victoria...Buckingham Palace Restoations ...The time of song...and ..The Balcony Pictures....Always to look up to...England...
you know, if you head into watching this with the knowledge that it's going to be very unrealistic, and it's just a bit of fun, it's much more enjoyable! if you try to think of it as them saying this is how it really is, you'll hate it. if you see it as poking fun and playing around, it's much better.
+sprinklefriend This "parallel universe" idea is very weak compared with the novel "The Queen and I" where the UK becomes a republic and the Royal Family has to live in Council flats. The novel is hilarious, this, not so much.
sprinklefriend I read your comment before watching it and I did see it as poking fun and was much more enjoyable like you said! If I seen it like a real show something like BBC’s Victoria I think it would’ve really annoyed me. It was only 2 seasons tho. I really wanted more to see how it would go. Thanks for your comment!
this fascination we have for a figurehead institution, all pomp and circumstance, blown all out of proportion, except for the tourists who come to bathe in the spectacle. Makes the rest of the crowned heads of Europe happy the constant spotlight isn't on them, and they can go on with the business of being head of state without too much interference.
I have to agree with Mark Pitt and a few others. I started this and got about ten minutes in. I thought I'm just tired, I'll come back to it. I came back to it. It may not be the acting, it's not believable.

I agree wholeheartedly, but there is something to be said for respecting what little privacy is left to the Windsors. "The Palace" is, after all, about a fictional royal family, and a particularly dysfunctional one somewhat reminiscent of Shakespearean tragedy. "Titus Andronicus" in particular, Eleanor recalling Tamora and her private secretary as Aaron the Moor....The series which offended me most was "Henry the Eighth," and their excuse was that modern audiences would be confused if two Princess Marys were among the characters. Not only that, they married Princess Margaret to the King of Portugal, when in fact she was the wife first of James the Fourth of Scotland. Her younger sister, Mary, was married first to Louis the King of France, then to Charles Brandon. Mary, daughter of Henry the 8th, was married to her mother (Katherine of Aragon's) great-nephew, Philip of Spain.
